Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale

Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale

Just like those classic video games we all grew up with, 8-Bit Pale Ale is spectacularly simple at first glance yet remarkably fun and complex when you get into it. Our Hop Rocket infuses the character of Australian grown Galaxy Hops into an American Pale Ale, giving a unique tropical, almost melon aroma in a classic American style.

3.8 on tap at the brewery. amber copper pour. nice bright citrus and dank. solid bitterness. good.
3.8 hazy gold pour, two finger off white, creamy, slightly chunky head, pretty nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, a little passionfruit, limestone mineral, lemon peel, biscuit and a little grain. Flavor is caramel, biscuit, a touch of toffee, juicy orange and lemon citrus, a little passionfruit heavy tropical fruit, mineral notes and just a hint of pine to the finish. Medium body kinda juicy entry, medium, spritzy carbonation, dry, crisp, kinda chalky finish. Really tasty stuff, definitely one of those beer that I’ve had a few times and I think I like it better now that I’ve sat down and really critiqued it.
3.5 Can served in a glass, this ale was a clear medium orange in the glass, the pour made about a one finger white cover, it left spots and small fingers of lacing on the side of the glass, this drink had aromas of peach fruit, lemon and orange citrus hops, light toasted malt, a little bread, fruit and malt sweetness, the flavors were lemon and grapefruit hops, light orange and malt, a little malt and fruit sweetness, there was about a medium hop citrus bitterness that gave some dryness on the lips, this beer was creamy, it had a light mouth feel, and there was average carbonation, the nose had nice fruit notes, citrus fruit hops with light malt in the flavor, a nice pale ale.
4.1 A good lookin beer, pours a cloudy orange-amber, fine suspended particulate. Massive ivory head, Swiss cheese folding pattern, heavy lace. Aroma of citrus, grain, peach nectar, a trace of pepper. Nice feel to it, a touch on the creamy side with a little zest. Peach, sweet tropical fruit, a little resin with a malty shell. Very nice.
3.5 Appearance: clear deep gold with two fingers of loose ivory head diminishing gradually to a patchy skim, minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: lemon and grapefruit zest, pineapple, grainy pale malt, melon, grass. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, dry lingering emphatic bitter finish. (4/5) Pretty darned close to a hop forward A/IPA, if you ask me. There’s a hint of Galaxy hops in there, coming through as melon behind the citrus zest and tropical fruit notes, but overall hops emphatically dominate over malt. The real surprise, though, is the lingering bitter finish, far more emphatic than one might normally expect given the at most middling-high IBU rating. Subtle? No, but good fun. 3.4 Pint can stamped Drink By 4/9/17 so assumed almost 5 months old into a stange. A: Poured a huge thick beige head atop pale orange gold with busy bubbles of different sizes. Dogged retention and thick lacing. S: Crisp bread with orange flesh and zest. Slight sweet tropical note of maybe pineapple. T: Pine hits first with very bitter grapefruit pith following. Faint tropical fruit and wood finish. M: Light to medium weight with crisp carbonation, sticky finish. O: Pretty good overall. Thick with hops. Similar to Ripper but tastier.
3.7 16 oz can pours clear gold with frothy whit head aroma is pleasent citrus and grass taste slight pineapple with pine dry finish
3.2 Best by 06/11/17. Pours filtered honey orange, off white head. Aroma is grass, lemon, pine, orange, grapefruit rind, lemongrass, lemondrop. Fairly lemongrass heavy. Clove, maybe melon. I know those don’t go together, but here we are. Flavor is malty biscuit, lemon rind, spot of clove, very heavy aspirin astringency. That’s unfortunate. Wow, that heavy heavy bitter finish destroys this one. It’s really pleasant up front, but that is horrendously bitter.
3.3 Tallboy can BB 04/28/17. Pours a slightly hazy, deep gold with a finger of foam. Light grassy nose with some pine and pineapple. Bit of yeast on the palate, dry with a light-ish body. Dry finish with some bitterness.
3.4 16 oz can. BB 08/18/16. Thanks Jere! Cloudy golden color with a small white head. Sweetish fruity hops, moderate bitterness and some malt in the aroma. Quite fresh even if it’s 6 months past BB date. The flavor is pungent hops, candies, harsh bitterness and dryish malt.
3.4 Lots of hop flavor. Average aroma. Hop mix is excellent. Their $1.99 per 12 ounce can is competitive in MI.
3.6 50 cl can @ Timo A. BBE 18.08.2016 Pours hazy golden color with a small head. Aroma is hoppy and fruity with mandarin and orange, some piney notes and citrus. Flavor is quite bitter, citric fruity, grapefruits, malty notes and gooseberries. Doesn’t feel as old as it is, decent. 351
3.6 From the can to a pint glass. Decent American pale ale. Nice aroma, decent full-bodied palate. Mildly hoppy, mildly bitter. Good stuff!
3.7 Sample at Gabf. Pours a hazy gold with medium frothy white head. The aroma is grass, citrus, pine. Medium body, pine, citrus, earth malt, nice bitterness, very good.
3.4 Can to glass. Pours a clear copper-gold with massive white head and plenty of patterns down. Melon aroma is assertive and solid. Flavor is more herbal.
3.5 Pint can from Keg Liquors; drink by date of 1/30/17. Aroma: Moderate citrus with melon and punch bowl-like fruit in near balance; a lesser caramel malt backing stays predictably subtle. Appearance: Somewhat hazy orange body with healthy carbonation holding up a sticky off-white head that settles into a skin. Flavor: Hops take a floral turn at the start, letting in more caramel than expected; melon/citrus like hop notes come up more towards the finish, which is lightly bitter. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Lots of good things about this APA; I just wish that the fruitiness of the nose could’ve translated to the flavor more.
3.6 Can. Very slightly hazy pale amber with a big frothy white head with a fair amount of webby lacing. Aroma of citrus peel, grain, and sweetbreads. Tastes grainy and slightly fruity and quite bitter. Medium bodied and very crisp.
3.0 A lot of thistle in aroma and flavor. Golden with a meringue head, in appearance that is. I want to love and hate this beer at the same time. The flavors are heavy in fruity esters. The esters are so thick you could love or hate it. Toys. Nostalgia.
4.0 The aroma is of citrus and very nice. The appearance is cloudy gold like honey. The taste is nice and hoppy. Easy to drink, and overall nice.
3.3 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange. The taste is kinda lacking. Smooth but not a bad beer
3.2 Aromas of lemon rind, orange slices, pine needles, and crackers. Taste is orange zest, lemon peel, slight red grapefruit, and cracker malt through. Pine tar in the finish and after taste.
3.1 Canned. Old note, small sample. The aroma has citrus, bit biscuit. Clear, amber coloured beer with a medium, white head. The taste is light bitter, toasted, has biscuit and citrus. Moderate dry bitter finish. Nice.
3.4 How: Can. Where: Viking Line Tax Free. Appearance: Amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma: Citrus, hops, fruit. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Citrus, malt, hops.
3.5 16 oz can from MN into a pint glass. Drink by stamp: 21 Oct. 2016. Appearance: Slightly hazy light amber with a large white cap. Good retention and lacing. Aroma: Earthy (Noble?) and floral hops with subtle tropical fruit notes. Flavor: Tropical fruit and floral notes. Subtle sweetness and bread notes from the malts. Mild+ bitterness overall. Feel: Very good; smooth and almost creamy yet with medium carbonation. Overall: A well crafted APA featuring Galaxy hops.
3.7 Appearance: pours with a medium beige head, the beer is a very hazy slightly dark gold color Aroma: strong biscuit, bread, citrus, faint black pepper Taste: very strong malt backbone that is somewhere in between amber and pale, has a mild but not weak bitter finish Palate: thick mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste, average carbonation Overall: I really like this pale ale, malt talked the front seat in this one with the hops getting out of the way, very well done
3.6 Can. First off, greatest can ever. Now...pours a mellow gold with a high, creamy, off-white head. Nose is bright tropical fruit, honeydew, agave syrup, and fresh bread. On the tongue, it starts off with bitterness, then mellows and spreads into a warm, orange-caramel malt. The close is more bitterness; not strong or unpleasant, but definitely pervasive. Finish is clean and bright. Damned fine pale ale. +1 bonus point for the can.
3.5 Draft at the Draft Shack. Medium gold pour, no head. Nose is pine. Bitter. Middle is woody, medium bodied malt, little orange. Finish is bitter and earthy. Nice.
3.3 16 Fl. Oz. Pours clear, golden nice white head and beautiful lacing all over the glass. Aroma of malts, grain and some hops. Taste is very well balanced, malty but actually on the hoppy side. Very enjoyable and super easy to drink’ very good beer.
3.1 Shared 16 oz. can. pale golden color and clear with a white head. Aroma of citrus and light malts. Taste is light malt, light citrus, touch of orange zest, spice, earth. Dry finish.
3.6 Can. Pours a hazy yellow color. Aroma and taste are floral, citrus, and some bitterness.
