We’ve been sitting on some rather special casks for the last few months... After releasing our incredibly popular imperial brown ale in 2017, the next logical step was to age it. We’ve aged the beer in Heaven Hill Bourbon casks for 6 months then refermented it with Grade A maple syrup.

Overall: good one.
4.1Poured from 330mL can. Very dark brown, near black with tan head. Really nice molasses-y burnt maple treacle with a touch of bourbon, some wood, hint of chocolate. Really nice flavours.

3.716-APR-2021, can @home, from Saveur-Bierre.
Dark, dark brown with a lasting, slightly lacing, low, tan head.
Aroma is quite weak, only some faint, sweet malty notes.
Luckily the taste is much much better. Fine Bourbon notes on top of licorice, chocolate, caramel, vanilla. Full body, sweet, soft carbonation, bitter, alcoholic. Very nice.
3.833cl blik. Helder donker bruin kleur, fijne romige bruine schuimkraag. De geur is koffie en chocolade. Smaak is zoet, whisky, chocolade en vanille. Vol body en veel koolzuur.
3.8Can @Luppolo Station (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige media.
4.1Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of bready, toasted, caramel malt, with some quite nutty aroma, as well as some chocolate and hints of maple syrup, vanilla and Bourbon-soaked oak. Taste is an excellent balance of bready, toasted, caramel malt, some chocolate covered nuts, with notes of walnut, hazelnut and dark chocolate, as well as lighter maple syrup, vanilla and Bourbon-soaked oak, with just a hint of bitter, earthy hops as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some toasted malt, nuts, chocolate, maple syrup and Bourbon lingering in the aftertaste.
Brown Ales are a rare find in these parts, so this barrel-aged example of the style was a real treat with its subtle complexity and great balance of sweet and bitter notes. I really like the interplay of the dominant maple syrup and nutty notes here, which provides a great balance of sweet and bitter elements that is enhanced by some vanilla and dark, bitter chocolate, while the barrel-aging really shines through here with a very nice, mellow but warming Bourbon presence in the finish, which doesn't feel too boozy at all, while providing some musty, earthy oak as well, along with the subtle, earthy and bitter hops.
3.2330mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lush bourbon barrels, some vanila, toasted caramel, and dark fruits. Flavour is loaded with sweet bourbon and vanilla, caramel, and some dark fruits. There really isn't much complexity here, nor is the integration all that great. I'm not in agreement with the prevailing ratings here. It's decent at best, but it really let's down.
4.30,33l can from Hoptimaal web store. Very dark brown, bit red, almost black beer with medium, very stable and beautiful brown head. Aroma has licorice, sweet caramel, malts, maple syrup, wood, bourbon barrel and vanilla. Flavor has sweet caramel, malts, dark fruits, plum, maple, wood, bourbon barrel and vanilla. Quite spicy at the end. Full body, smooth and creamy, excelent.
4.3Belle noire à mousse brune plutôt stable.
Odeurs : chocolat, vanille, fruits noirs, alcool, caramel puis fruits secs genre coco.
Top !
4.2Black with a tan head, malty, maple, vanilla, bourbon aroma, medium body, sweet, chocolate, vanilla, maple, bourbon with a warming slightly boozy finish, lovely
4.0Can sample at a tasting. Deep brown with brownish head. The aroma has notes of wood, dark chocolate, vanilla, coconut, wine, bourbon. The flavor is sweet and mild bitter with notes of wood, bourbon, coconut, vanilla, wine. Full-bodied.
4.0Can. Dark brown/black colour, beige foam. Nose of caramel, roasted matls, toast, some smoke, vanilla and whisky. Taste is rather sweet, caramel, molasses, light smoke. Well balanced. Better when warming up. Very good, but too expensive for what it is.
3.8Can at a tasting. Brown with reddish hues. Aroma of wood, prunes, nuts. Sweetish, prunes, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, molasses, wood, alcohol. Medium full bodied, oily.
3.533 cl bottle @ home, BBE 06.12.2024
Aroma has salty licorice, soy sauce. Also bourbon and alcohol. Flavour has licorice, rubbery tones, alcohol, mild bourbon tones. Finishes with odd spicy aromas, cinnamon, gingerbread? Warming alcohol also. Unusual and a bit of a disappointment.
3.4Can sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Very dark brown. Malt, caramel, a bit of coconut, vanilla, nuts, some dark fruits, maple, sweet, full-bodied.
3.4Can from the brewery. A really unique beer. There’s liquorice, caramel and a kind of dark smoky thing going on. Not my thing, but well made and a sipper, not a glugger.
4.2Can from Indiebeer, Holloway. Aroma has caramel... nougat, with a boozy smokey streak - they compliment each other. Dark brown. Opaque and oly. Foamy tan head. Flavour had underlying sweetness - caramel again so burnt sugar rather than saccharine. Also sweet salted liqourice, smoke and roast are in the mix, with a bitter boozey edge. Again they all compliment each other. If anything the BA elements lift the sweetness. Thick. Oily. Average carbonation. Long finish. A touch of the astringent.
3.9Pours thick dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is sweet chocolate, caramel and warming alcohol. Thick mouthfeel.
4.1Bottle
Aroma-caramel, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toffee
Appearance-brown, hazy, tan foam
Taste-medium sweetness, light sourness and bitterness
Palate-full body, slick, average carbonation, long finish
Overall-very good
3.8330ml can. Pours jet black with a medium head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon and maple syrup. Taste has chocolate, maple syrup and bourbon. A hint of coffee.
Corpo medio e rotondo e bassa carbonazione.
5.0Direct from the brewery 330ml bottle. 11.2% a lovely dark ale. Had away at Polin Croft.
3.90.33 l can from 'Ace Drinks', canned in September 2020. Black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly boozy and a little roasty aroma of caramel, nuts, chocolate, maple and bourbon. Rather sweet, malty, slightly roasty taste of brownies, toasted nuts, bourbon, maple, caramel fudge and cocoa, followed by a long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly boozy finish. Full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty beer, very sweet but still balanced, the bourbon matches very well with the nutty aromas.
3.833 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a small beige head. Toasted malty aroma, caramel-y, slightly syrupy too, some spice notes, bourbon and faint nutty notes. Flavor starts spicy, toasted malty, some caramel and maple syrup sweetness, faint bready notes, nuts and hints of ripe fruits on the finish, bourbon-y vanilla on the aftertaste. Not sure if I like the spicy side of this brew, otherwise quite nice.

4.3Bottle pouring dark brown color. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, plums, caramel, vanilla, maple syrup, sugar and alcohol. Taste is heavily sweet combined with malts and dark fruits, a lot of maple syrup notes combined with bourbon and vanilla. In a good way rich and strong taste, a bit boozy, which works well in here. Tons of sweet notes, but not very sweet beer overall.
2.6Chocoladesmaak en heel veel alcohol. Donkerbruin bier.
