Tempest Brave New World IPA

Tempest Brave New World IPA

bottle & keg Best Scottish IPA 2016

IPA that is super drinkable with a big dry hop character and plenty of malt body. If we could only produce one beer this would be it.

3.8 Old rating - 330ml bottle. Pours yellow with a white head. Aromas & tastes of orange, grapefruit, lemon, pine, cereal & malt. Medium body. Moderate bitter finish
3.8 Llauna hopt. Bona West Coast, ben llupolada, citrica i resinosa, amb bona amargor
3.4 High level of hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, pine and mango, with caramel malts to support. Terrible look, clear golden, medium white head, with good retention and lacing, but a huge quantity of sediment that keeps floating. Never seen anything like this. Taste as expected from a West Coast IPA, quite bitter, with hop-forward flavour same as its aroma, with grapefruit, pine, mango (hops) and caramel (malts). Balance to the hops, very dry finish. Medium-light finish, with medium carbonation and no hop burn. Besides the sediment (not bottom can, it was 100% like this) it's a pretty classic West Coast IPA, enjoyable.
3.7 Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Hazy ochre, thin, white head. Aroma of unripe peach, tangerine peel, pineapple, yellow grapefruit, mango, cheese, spruce. Taste has sweetish pineapple, peach, bittersweet mandarin peel, grapefruit, bready maltiness. Piney, floral hoppy finish, more bitter stonefruit & grapefruit, slightly resinous, balanced by creamy malts. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Good but it didn't really 'stick'.
3.5 33cl can from Hopt, France. Pours medium hazy, orange gold, with very fine white foam. Aroma is definitely citrus, a little yeasty. Body is average, with good carbonation. Taste is markedly bitter, persisting also in the final for fairly long.
3.9 Pours a darkish yellow, not much head. Aroma has citrus fruit notably grapefruit, pine, and evidence of a solid malt base. Taste has some sweet caramel malt, but also some citrus fruit and resinous pine. Really good ‘old school’ west coast IPA.
3.9 Fles 33cl thuis. IBU60. Pine, bitter, hop (chinook, citra, centennial, columbus), caramel, malttonen, redelijk zacht, fruitig, grapefruit. (25-10-2020).
3.8 Burk. Disig bärnstensfärgad med ett smutsvitt skum. Dofter av karamell, grapefrukt och tall. Smakinslag av karamell, grapefrukt, malt, mango och tall. Medelbeska, medelkropp. Välkomponerade smaker.
3.9 Can. Pours a rather clear amber, little head, no retention. Aroma is malty, lots of caramel, lot of pine. Somewhat fruity, grapefruit. Medium body. Flavour is rich and malty, spicy malts and lot of caramel. Very nice. Medium bitterness, nice bite. Some nice citrus fruit flavours, mostly grapefruit. Finishes rich and bittersweet, pine. Very nice west coast IPA, immensely drinkable.
3.6 Can. Hazy orange, thick creamy head. Tropical fruits, a bit of onion and pine. Sweetish, bitter, malty, mango, papaya, grapefruit. Medium full bodied, smooth.
3.6 Can. Thanks zvsn. Hazy golden with white head. The aroma is very fruity with notes of ripe fruits, tropical fruits, some onion, citrus (orange). The flavor is mild sweet and bitter with notes of tropical fruits, citrus (orange, grapefruit), malt, onion, some alcohol. Medium to full-bodied.
3.8 Pours a pale yellow with a slight haze A big frothy head quickly dissipated A refreshing tangy malty taste with a strong bitterness Bottle from beautiful beers
3.6 Canned, 330ml from Left Field Beer, Solihull, W.Mids. Hazy yellow straw with white head. There is a pleasant, biscuity body to this, cereals, light toasty notes, fairly sweet. The hops give a resinous, pine needle character initially then layers of citrus and tropical fruits. Good depth of flavour, quite tangy and refreshing for a bigger beer. Very pleasant.
5.0 klassisk west coast, lækker crispy, med noter af citrus/tropical og en underliggende tone af fyrtræ og så er den bare rigtig flot gul, hazy med et tæt hvidt skum. Medium body, medium carbonation
3.8 20-05-2020; can; at home (bought at Saveur Bière, as part of their May 2020 discovery box). The looks of the beer are nice. Decent looking IPA. The colour is a pale yellow. The beer is nice and cloudy. On top of the beer there is a nice layer of soft white foam. Foam retention is average. Only a thin drape is left on the beer. Looks nice. The aroma of the beer is nice too. Malts give some bready aromas, and also a touch of hay. Quite pleasant. I like it. The hops are the main player in the smell. They give nice piney aromas, together with some citrus and zest, some peach and passion fruit. It is quite a nice bouquet. Tropical and also that robust pine, giving it edge. Nice balance. The taste is also nicely balanced. Sweet malts go well with a nice delicate acidity of the tropical hops and the vast IPA bitterness. All flavours are just strong enough. Nicely done. The palate of the beer is nice. Medium body and smooth texture. Carbonation is medium. The finish is nice and filled with tropical fruity aromas and a nice piney note. Also some sweetness is there, reminding me of lactose. This gives it a slight artificial note in the back. This is a pity. There rest of the beer is very nice.
Compleja, cuerpo medio. Una alegría en esta cuarentena
3.8 Aromat: cytrusy i trawa. Smak: cytrusy, trawiasta goryczka, troszkę nafty w aftertaste. Goryczka średnia, średnio utrzymująca się. dość wytrawne. Generalnie ok.
3.9 Hopt. Bien equilibrada.
3.7 Bottle from Hopt. Aroma is fruity hops with citrus, orange, pine resin, malt, grapefruit, tropical notes. Flavour is sweetish with a medium bitter finish. Body is medium. Pine, grapefruit, bittersweetish, good classic West Coast IPA character. Bit on the sweet side, but very nice.
3.7 33 cl. bottle @ home, served in a tulip glass, due date: 2020/05/30. Aroma: quite powerful aromas of grapefruit, citrus, pine, tropical fruits, fruits. Hints of resin, cereals, toasted malts. Appearance: light amber to amber color with light beige and very fluffy foam made of tiny to big sized bubbles. High to very high head thickness with high retention and medium to high Brussels' lacing. Medium haziness. Taste: low to medium sweetness, medium bitterness, low sourness. Flavors of grapefruit, citrus, pine, resin. Hints of tropical fruits, fruits, cereals, toasted and caramel malts, orange, bitter orange, tangerine. Balance is toward the bitterness as it should, but well balanced for the style and no harsh bitterness. Mouthfeel: low to medium body, watery to oily texture, low to medium carbonation, long dry finish with low to medium bitterness and the same aforementioned flavors. Alcohol is very well hidden and only noticeable because of its mouth and throat warming. Astringency is very low but slightly noticeable. Overall: very good appearance, powerful aromas and flavors of grapefruit, citrus, pine, tropical fruits, fruits, caramel and toasted malts, cereals. Hints of orange, orange peel, bitter orange, tangerine. Good IPA, but it would be better with less ABV.
3.6 Pours a mid yellow colour Aroma not fruit lots of hop Taste is sweet hoppy long finish Nice Beer
4.4 Has everything, just missing a bit more fruityness. Absolutely no taste of Alcohol.
2.8 Tasted this at Aldi's Scottish Beer Festival in Saltcoats on the 19th July 2019. 330 ml bottle sampled. Pours a clear straw in colour with a thin white head. Hoppy aroma with a dusty citrus pith evident on the short nose. Thin resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt gives a light digestive biscuit backbone with pulpy citrus notes of kiwi and lime. Strong bitter aftertaste gives an astringency from fresh green hops adding a grassy, herbal quality. Finish is hoppy with tart kiwi pith adding astringency in the mouth. Preferred Fierce Late Shift in direct comparison for flavour between the two. High ABV is well disguised though.
3.7 Clear, orange colored, medium off white frothy head. Medium+ hoppy citrus and pine, resiny, medium sweet malt with some caramel, orange, medium bitterness, dry finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, oily to resiny.
3.5 Tap at Pivoteka Zagreb. Aroma is resinous at citrus, then fruit and grass. Clear amber color with minimal sized white head. Taste is again resinous, sweet, then slightly bitter, fresh stone fruit, just a little bit of caramel and iron. Thin body, average carbonation.
4.3 Attaque amère, fruitée exotique, pin résineux. Houblons chinook citra centennial columbus, 60 ibu. Bien bonne!
3.5 Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy copper/amber pour, thin soapy white layer on top. No lacing. Usual nose, herbs and grass, touch of pine and citrus fruits. Pronounced caramel in the background. Medium body, soft to medium carbonation. Average mouthfeel, pleasantly fizzy. Smooth and drinkable. Bittersweet taste, more on the bitter side. Caramel and honey notes in the background, strong herbal presence, mild spicy. Pine and low citrus. Dry mouthfeel, medium lasting finish. Good.
3.3 On tap at Pivoteka, Zagreb. Happy Birthday, Vran! Hazy golden, off-white head. Moderately hoppy, also buttery. Fruity and herbal notes underneath, malts. Very drinkable. Light to a moderate bitterness. Smooth and light to a medium body. By the book with a few flaws.
