Ter Dolen Donker

Ter Dolen Donker

Translated from the Dutch on brewer’s website: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer, this irresistible dark beer for tasting at 7.1% ABV became a permanent fixture almost immediately. It’s a mildly fruit, lightly sweet and soft dark warm fermented abbey beer with three types of malt and two types of hops and additions of light and dark candy sugar. The biggest proportion of malt is Munich barley malt, which has been killed a slightly higher temperature to give a slightly more coloured character than usual. This gives Ter Dolen Donker its biscuit-like flavour. Added to this are light hints of caramel from some caramel malts, along with the typical flavours of light and dark candy sugar. Our Donker is bottle conditioned.

3.2 Klassisches Donker mit Malz, Karamell und gewissen fruchtigen Einflüssen. Feine Perlung, milde Süße und als kleiner Bonus der Alkohol der die Wärme hinzufügt. Nicht schlecht.
3.9 Donkerbruin bier met genoeg koolzuur. geur mout, fruit, kandij. Smaak mout, pruim, kandij. Medium mondgevoel. Nasmaak mout, pruim, suikers, water. Mooie balans tussen zuur, bitter en zoet. Lekker
3.0 Schuimkraag is snel weg. Te zoet, pruimen, chocolade, caramel. Mondgevoel blijft iets van bubblegum houden. SNel vergeten.
2.9 Nice color and a good light taste
3.8 the aroma is caramel and fruity with hints of prunes, toffee, raisin, dried apple and some spicy herbs... the taste is caramel and fruity with notes of dried plum, raisin, toffee, dark fruits and some spicy grasses... sweet, dry and bitter aftertaste...
3.1 Beetje flauw donker biertje. Weinig bijzonders.
3.4 Nearly black, light beige head. Dark malty aroma, notes of dried fruit. Flavour has brown sugar, caramel and a little dried fruit.
3.9 Foggy deep brown, nice head og beige colour. The nose is more fruity and perfumey than a common dubbel beer. Lots of forest berry jam, blossom, additional caramel, figs and dates. Medium body. The taste is relatively dry. Moderate maltiness. Berries, fruits. Mild yeast. Some perfume. Low bitterness. Tasty.
4.1 A nice double dark abbey beer. Lightly sweet, hints off caramel . A really nice double !
3.5 Pours dark brown color with a thin, beige head that won't last for long. Some fruity notes and a slightly spicy sting, followed by a very light alcoholic aftertaste. After all, a solid Dubbel.
4.1 20/07/2017 - 33cl bottle @Lutgardhof, Meeuwen-Gruitrode. Dark brown with tanned creamy head. Nose is malty, caramel, dark fruits. Taste is dark malts, caramel, some chocolate, dark fruits, bitter touch. NIce and less sticky and sweet than most others.
3.5 Bottle at home. Dark brown body with a small offwhite head. Roasted malt, dark fruit, candy sugar, yeast, cheese notes. Some tartness up front. Medium carbonation.
4.4 A full flavored beer with a lingering taste to the tongue. This is a quality beer that can be paired with just about anything.
3.3 33cl bottle. Hazy dark reddish brown with a thin tan head. Caramel, malts and candy sugar. Nice.
3.9 330ml bottle from Chez Marie, Ieper. Pours a hazy dark brown with a healthy tan head. Aroma is good dubbel-like fruits and yeast. Taste is smooth and rich in candy sugar and yeasty dark fruits with additional caramel and brown bread. Great dubbel.
3.3 33cl bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown colour with a huge good lasting tan head. Aroma of red fruits, red malt, caramel and some spices. Taste of dark red malt, wood, caramel, sugar, some coffee, okay!
2.8 33cl bottle. Dark brown with medium head that disappears completely. Medium intensive aroma of dried fruits, coca-cola, chocolate, clove, burned bread. Medium carbonation, creamy mouth feel. The beer is medium dry like bread and raisins with some clove and watered coca-cola. Move along.
3.7 Botella 33cl Cerveceria Kraken ( Oviedo ) Aroma maltoso, espuma fina persistente, apariencia oscura, sabor suave a malta y caramelo
3.3 Fles thuis gedeeld. Diep donkerbruin helder bier met veel schuim. Goed aroma, caramel. Smaak is zoet, caramelachtig en fruitig. Nasmaak is redelijk vlug weg. Lekker bier om rustig van te genieten.
2.7 Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, candy sugar, raisins, spicy notes, touch of dark chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet. Body is medium. Too much candy sugar for my taste.
3.1 Donkerbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht zoet, licht bitter met iets van karamel en anijs. Komt iets te licht over anders zou dit een beter bier geweest zijn.
3.4 33 cl. bottle. Dark brown colour with a an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of dried fruit, malt, caramel, spice, yeast, hops and nuts.
3.4 F: average, creamy, off-white, average lasting. C: very dark, non-transparent. A: malty, caramel, coffee, plums, dark cherries, brown sugar, yeast. T: malty, chocolate malty, yeasty, dusty, dark fruits, pear, bitter dry hop on the palate, better than the blond version, full body, lower carbonation, 0,33l bottle from Beer Mania in Brussels.
3.3 Dark brown, medium stable head, some sediment. A: dark malts, hint of rye, alcohol note, maybe even some paint thinner. T: copper note upfront. Sweet malts, light, bit like cola, faint chocolate note. Development is light fruity, light oily, biscuit note. Aftertaste has a swelling bitterness with notes of dark fruit.
3.4 Bottle. (bb 17/02/2013 - this is from old notes). Smells better than it tastes. A little thin for the ABV. Nice malty earthiness.
3.9 Bottle, Cheers Craig, April 2014 Not So Fools Tasting (rating backlog) Pours brown red tinge off white thin head. Nose is fruity, dark berry fruits, raisins, classic Belgium style nose. Taste is fruity, banana, chocolate, slight oxidisation which did not harm the beer.
3.3 Bottle @ home. Dark brown, beige foam. Weak aroma of coffee, caramel and light roasted malts. Light sweet, light bitter finish. Ok.
