Terrapin Rye Pale Ale

Terrapin Rye Pale Ale

We Consider this an extreme version of an American Pale Ale. It has a very up front floral and citrus aroma from a late cascade addition and dry hopping with Amarillo. This beer also has a big malt background to balance the bitterness of the hops. The rye malt cleans up your palette after you swallow so the hop flavor does not stick in your mouth too long.

3.0 Pours hazy orange-amber with a 2-finger white head. Mild aroma with a peppery note over citrus oil. Body is medium and lightly oily, with a touch of astringency in the finish. Flavor of citrus hops mixed with a peppery, grassy note that lingers in the finish.
3.2 Pinkish orange pour, no head. Aroma is Cheerios, perfume, floral. Taste is not as spicy from the rye as one would imagine, more grainy and floral, slight lemon. Watery on the palate. Just an ok pour.

3.7 Recently sampled from a can, I was pleasantly surprised with this offering from Terrapin. Pours a honey accented-orange standard pale ale color, with a white foamy head. Aroma of brown sugar and sweet malt, with pacific hops. The rye comes through subtly in the taste with a sweet rye malt flavor with toasty brown sugary malt also; there is a solid hoppy bitterness to be sure, but this is well balanced by the strong malty notes. Features a solid medium bodied mouthfeel also. This is an exceptionally good beer overall, more enjoyable than the Hopsecutioner. A recommended malt-centric distinctive pale ale.
3.7 Very bitter hoppiness but the rye malt really cuts into the bitterness on the finish. As a big fan of rye whiskey and other rye beer I really enjoyed this one. Not your usual pale ale but a real nice change of pace from the norm.
3.3 This rye PA poured a medium Amber colour with a nice, foamy, off white head. Scents include spruce hops, light citrus hops and a little varnish? First swig was a little thin but a good belt of citrus hops. Flavours of tea, grapefruit and malt most prominent. Finish is bitter with hop flavour lingering...

3.4 12 oz can. Pours clear honey colored. Aroma of citrus, grain, tropical fruit. Flavor of citrus, spicy rye, bread, tea. A fun take on a pale ale that adds the kick of rye without overpowering.
3.7 Aroma is citrus, rye and a hint of tea. The flavor is citrus, fruit, rye/rye cereal and a bitter/spicy finish.
3.4 12 oz. bottle with a best before date of 8/21/15. Thanks going to weihenweizen for this opportunity. Copper in color with fast dying head. Aroma has a large fruit character with the rye coming in underneath. The flavor has the mentioned rye with some mild cascade hops ( floral and fruity) the body is on the real thin side (borderline watery). Other than the thin mouthfeel this is a pleasing brew. No off flavors, freshness is paramount on this one. The rye saves this brew for me.
3.4 Bottle. Opaque copper color with off-white head and substantial lacing. Citrus, pine, and spice aroma. Citrus upfront with pleasant spice and bitterness following. Medium, citrus finish.
3.3 Clear light amber, small lacing foam. Hoppy aroma and floral notes. Strong bitter taste, citrus tones. Lasting aftertaste. (New Orleans 201505)

3.7 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, best before the third week in May 2015, poured into snifter. Clear light orange with medium white head. 3.5 12oz bottle. Appearance: A hazy dark golden, with a small white foam cap. Aroma: Rye graininess is dominant, with a light floral and citrus hop note. Taste: Spicy rye grain maltiness up front, with moderately sharp bitterness and slight herbal and floral hop flavor. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Finish: Well balanced, with dry finish and lingering rye flavor on the tongue. Overall: No doubt this is a rye beer, with a dominant rye note from the aroma all the way thru the finish. Well balanced with a subdued hop profile. Definitely closer to an English PA than American
3.5 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark gold color with a thin white head that settles to a film. Aroma is a little spicy, some malt. Medium body, lots of carbonation, strong rye taste but not over the top. The rye theme carries on to the finish. Pretty good.

3.5 From 12 oz. bottle to small sampling glass. Out of the bottle you a good scent of malt and rye followed by hop notes. Color is very clear and pale yellow with minimal head and lacing. To the palate it is a very light body, slightly carbonated with a short bitter finish. Overall this RPA is a solid drink with a good malty and hoppy combination.
3.6 Pours a nice clear orange color with off-white head. Rye, spice, floral notes, and some citrus on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with rye and spice. Very nice, just a good amount of hop bit but enough caramel malt to round it out.

3.7 Bottle... Poured amber golden with a moderate head. Aroma of complimenting grassy hops and rye spice. Very earthy. A little drying, rye malts and ready-like malt came through to balance out the battering and citrus forward hops. Nice drinking pale ale.
3.8 Draft at Pub 5. The pour is a solid orange. The aroma is nice sweet hops. The taste is an almost perfect pale ale. The sweet blend of hops is great, a very easy drinking beer.
