Terrapin Side Project Dos Cocoas Chocolate Porter

Terrapin Side Project Dos Cocoas Chocolate Porter

The Terrapin ""Dos Cocoas"" gets its name from the deep history of chocolate and the two forms of Ecuadorian cocoa we use in this exceptional beer. Brewed with 100% cocoa powder, and aged on a bed of pure cocoa nibs, the chocolate flavor in this beer is so mouth watering it will even make Wonka jealous.

3.4 Bottle. Pours dark black with tan head. Smells of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste of chocolate, coffee and an aftertaste of peanut butter. Decent beer.
3.6 22oz bottle from Total Wine in Raleigh. Dark brown (almost black) hue, fizzy caramel mostly lasting head. Moderate chocolate and malt on the nose. Light malt & coffee on the initial taste with a light chocolate finish. Much better then Moo-Hoo
3.3 Aroma is heavenly chocolatey. The flavor is toasty and cocoa-ie. Its bubbly on the tongue.
3.8 Pours a deep brownish black on tap with fluffy tan head that leaves great lace. Aroma is strong chocolate, sweet and roasty. Taste follows, kits of chocolate, slight soy, thinner than the moo hoo. Very nice.
4.1 Very nice porter. Not quite as good as moo hoo but still a pretty a dang good chocolate brew.
3.2 Bottle shared by Simon with Fantasia and I. Poured blackish brown with thin head. Notes of Hershey kisses, roasted malt, vasnilla extract cheap chocolate candy and malt. Medium bodided with an non-sticky palate. I like the moo hoo better guyzz.
4.0 Black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is chocolate and lite coffee. Flavor mirrors aroma with nice malty bitter finish. Full bodied and smooth. pretty nice
3.5 Pours the deepest mahogany into the glass with a wispy head that leaves little lace. The nose is of chocolates, light roasts and dark vinous notes. Flavors are similar, dark chocolates and roasts, dark esters, with a milk chocolate mouthfeel and slick palate. Medium-light body.
3.1 Bomber from Proof... I think. Dark brown pour with thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roasty malt, dark fruit. Tastes are cocoa, toasted malt, chocolate milk vibe. Kind of thin and one dimensional. Not for me.
3.2 I missed this when it was a Side Project so I guess I’m glad to get another shot at it. Deep brown, almost black color, with a small tan head. The aroma has chocolaty notes, toasted grain, and barley. Pretty straightforward. No surprise, the flavors get kicked off with plenty of chocolate notes. Some zippy, active carbonation tickles the palate with mild day old coffee entering the mix. There’s nutty notes present giving the whole thing a roasty chocolate covered nut taste. Borderline thin; could maybe use more body. Much better; more chocolaty and slick as it warms. Gets a touch fuller too although I still would like to see a more silky, creamy body to this. Overall probably just decent but certainly one to check out if given the chance.
3.6 22oz bottle. Small tan head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cocoa, light bittersweet chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, cocoa/bittersweet chocolate, light roast. Light-medium body, light stickiness.
3.8 On draft At Isaacs. Nice black pour. Body was slightly thin, but it appeared thicker. The aroma was an awesome blend of chocolate, cream and coacoa. The taste was sweet, roast, chocolate and cinnamon. Well done.
3.0 22 oz. bottle. Black pour, with a small, tan head. The aroma is molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, light coffee, cinnamon, and a little peat. The flavor is very sweet, and a little acerbic. Medium body, sticky, and vinegar-ish. Overall, this is a mediocre chocolate porter.
3.2 Growler. A: Aroma is light but good. Smooth chocolate. A: Looks ok. Head retention is ok. Color is like dark brown. T: Light. Chocolate is subtle (contrary to the description). A little spicy on the finish or so. Too light. P: Light... watery... little flavor development. Would be a good beer to intro someone to dark beer. Overall this beer is ok... it’s very light and the chocolate is subtle. It’s easy drinking but definately did not live up to the description. It was sitting in the fridge next to founders porter and this beer just doesn’t compare.
3.8 If u like a smooth dessert beer this is it. Nice chocolate taste great cold or warmed up.
3.5 Bottle at the house. Aroma is big time chocolate with light roast. That’s about it. Flavor is the same - tons of chocolate and some roasted notes. Palate is average to a bit thin. Carbonation is medium. Good beer.
3.7 Poured from a bomber into a tulip. Nearly jet black with a mocha head. Aroma is roast and chocolate. The taste is roast, chocolate, ash, lactose and a bit metallic. Heavy on the sweetness, but has a slightly dry bitter finish. Body is light/medium with soft carbonation. Overall, a nice twist on a porter.
3.7 Bottle from New Leaf. Black pour with a a brown head. Rich chocolatey aroma with notes of dark malts and cream. Dry, roasted malt flavor up front fading into chocolate with touches of prunes. Slightly bitter finish. Not bad.
3.2 Location: 22 oz bottle from Sparrow, 9/22/13 Aroma: The nose is dark chocolate, roast, a little smoke, and some earth as well Appearance: It pours a dark brown color, with a thin, light, beige colored head and drippy lace Flavor: Tastes lightly sweet/chocolate, but more so roasty, notes of earthy bitterness and smoke Palate: The body is light-medium, a touch thin, with average carbonation, and a dry, smoky finish Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid one, although the mouthfeel does leave a touch to be desired. It just comes off as a little thin and dull in the feel. As for the rest of the beer, the chocolate is present, obviously, but the roast dominates it, and the smoke and earth act as nice bit characters as well. There’s a nice foundation here, but it could use a little work.
3.7 Bottle. Deep ruby maroon color, big fluffy tan head. Aroma of chocolate milk, coffee, dark fruit. Taste is brandied raspberry candy covered in chocolate. Tasty. Sweet and dessert-like.
3.4 Bottle. Pours out black with a small tan head. Aroma is of lots of se,pm I-sweet chocolate, light roasted malts, and caramel. Taste is lots of chocolate, mostly a bitter dark chocolate with a medium to high level of sweetness, caramel, light roast, silky smooth body.
3.5 9/16/13. 22oz bomber from Grassroots. Dark pour, deep brown, with a small tan head. Rich cocoa aroma, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, hot chocolate, some ashiness, a hint of acidity. Rich flavor, more chocolate, bitterness, a hint of acidity. Not bad.
3.5 Bomber, this one 5.6% abv instead of six. Nose bracingly, overpoweringly hot chocolate and cocoa powder. Pours opaque pitch brown with a creamy, dense light brown head, laces well but no legs. Watery light body again all dark choco and cocoa powder, but it’s a clean and pure strain. No hops or significant bitterness to weigh this down, it’s sweet but not cloying, and not really even noticeably -- much more chocolate/cocoa than sweet, if that makes any sense at all. Very light, very gentle smoke and ash. Smooth with prickling carbonation, no alcohol presence. This concoction is decidedly un-beery but I am greatly supportive. And think it would pair superbly with a chili dish, or as a chili variant, either at this level of easygoing wateriness or gummed up with extra body and alcohol (and some roast. Yum!).
3.4 22oz bomber from Crossroads Spirits. Pours a cola brown color with a finger of foamy dark tan head. Aromas of sweet chocolate, Hershey syrup, caramel, and some faint smoke. Taste is ashy, smoked malt, bakers chocolate, with an almost tart citrusy bitterness.
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of tootsie rolls, chocolate fudge, cocoa powder, chocolate malt. Super chocolatey aroma. Flavor of chocolate malt, cocoa powder followed by darker, bitter chocolate, and roasted malts. Nice chocolate porter, rather complex. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
3.7 Poured from a bottle this beer is a chocolate brown with a slight head. The aroma is of chocolate. It tastes of roasted coffee with chocolate overtones that linger on the palate
3.6 From a 22 oz bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours a clear dark cola with a tan head. Cocoa aroma. Flavors of chocolate with ahint of coffee. Effervescent mouthfeel. Mildly bitter finish.
3.4 22oz bottle pours a watery, translucent black with some thin, white head. Nose if very nice, inviting dark and milk chocolates, some coffee, a little brown sugar, some toast. Flavor is the same, very chocolatey with without being over powering, only mildly sweet, brown sugar, some molasses, toast. Dry finish. We had this side by side with the Yards Chocolate Love and this was five times the beer that was. Very drinkable.
3.3 On tap at Whole Foods in Market Square in Fairfax, VA. Opaque, very dark brown with a fine khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of chocolate milk and mild tart dark fruit. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, metallic lactose and mild tart dark fruit. Light/medium body and medium/high carbonation.
3.7 Draft at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, FL. Snifter. Pours a very dark black with a tan mocha head. Some lacing. Aroma of cocoa, dark chocolate, bread and plums. The taste was mostly chocolate, cocoa nibs, roasted nuts and vanilla. The mouth was smooth. I prefer a little more lactose creaminess with a heavy chocolate presence but it was still good. Slight bitter finish.
