3.3Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours hazy amber with slight off white head. Aroma of slight hops and yeast/bread. Taste of initial bitterness that quickly gives way to yeast. Different/interesting.
3.0Pours a beautiful copper orange color. Aroma is citrus pine, pineapple, pepper, Belgian yeast, some malty sweetness. Taste falls short. Malt notes fight with the Belgian notes which for with the hop bitterness. Notes from the nose are there on all fronts, but too disjointed to truly enjoy. Well crafted though, alcohol stays hidden/blends in.
3.7Poured from a bottle into my Monday Night Brewing snifter. Really nice looking beer - dark amber with a pillowy off-white head - it disipates to a thin cap and leaves minimal spotchy lacing. Aroma is malt, belgian yeast, grass, dried fruit and spice. Taste starts sweet and a little bitey and then a peppery/clove spice takes over and lingers on the palate. Dried fruit, malt, pine dominate the flavors. Overall, its a decent beer - to me it seemed like I was tasting two separate beers, this one didn’t blend seemlessly for me.
3.2Pours amber-orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity Belgian yeast. Taste is mild fruit up front (almost grape like) going to a typical Belgian yeast mid palate and a long bitter finish. Definitely different and definitely blasphemous.
3.52013 bottle pours amber with a cream colored foam cap that leaves behind a gentle lacing coat. nose of flowers, bubblegum, earth. taste begins with quick toast ans sweetness quickly washed over by citrus with bitterness flashing in on an abrupt finish. cloves hang on the palate long after finish. body is light to medium.
3.99/3/2012. From bottle. Aromas of citrus, pine, caramel, hops and yeast. Interesting combination of two different styles, but somehow it works pretty good.
4.4The beer poured nicely into my pint glass with a good amount of carbonation. The beer appears to have a golden/copper tint to it with a nice white head that clings to the side of the glass. The smell comes with that nice citrus/hoppy smell but also has the hint of fruit/sweetness from the belgian part. The beer taste starts with a great IPA flavor and blends into a nice fruity belgian flavor with a hoppy aftertaste, it is a great combination of the two styles that is mixing well. The mouth feel is the worst part of the beer but still very good with a mild IPA flavor lingering around but also has a nice sweet flavor to it too. Overall, this beer fits well with a Belgian IPA description and totally delivers it. The to styles are blended very well with neither one overpowering the other, they go hand in hand very well. Near perfection. Its too bad they dont distribute in NY...
3.6Very much a Belgian as the yeast and the dark candi sugar comes through. However, it heavily masks the IPA part of this. It’s a good beer, but not much on the hoppy double IPA side.
3.3bottle. Deep golden with small head. Nicely hoppy with subtle Belgian spice. However, the booziness is out in front, and certainly could be dialed back a bit.
3.5Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small beige head that dissipates with decent lacing. Aroma is pine, lemon, pepper, yeast, sort of like a hoppy saison more than tripel. Flavor is much the same, lightly sweet, medium bitter/spicy with a mix of pine and peppery rye flavors. Prominent herbal/spicy yeast notes as well. Medium body with some warming on the finish. Interesting for sure, but not something I would seek out.
3.912 oz bottle pours amber with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet malts, bread and fruit. Taste is dried fruits, malts, pine and yeast.
3.6Hazy orange with white head. Aroma is light sweet citrus and a little grass. Taste is malty unsweetened orange juice. Descent, not great.
3.5Bottle thanks to changeup..Pour is dark gold with a thin head..Nose is spice, yeast, hop, caramel, fruits..Taste is spices, dark fruits, hop, pine, fruits
3.6Bottle. Pours clear reddish orange with a small white head. The aroma has orange juice, citrusy acid, belgian yeast. The taste is medium bitter with a big citrus sweetness.
3.3From Westmeister. Thanks!
A: Burnt orange color with a thin, white bubbly head. Decent legs.
N: Pronounced pine and Belgian yeast. Some bubblegum and clove. A hint of banana. Grass and bread.
T: Very, very bready and sweet. Lots of sweetness and very little hop bitterness. This is definitely closer to the Belgian tripel than the DIPA.
M: Medium body. Alcohol is very well hidden.
O: No idea how to properly rate this one. On one hand, there’s little to no hop presence, on the other hand, it’s much closer to the Belgian trippel than many of the other American renditions of the style. So, it loses points with me for the former, but this is actually pretty decent with the latter.
3.8Poured from a growler into a pint glass.
Appearance- hazy reddish amber with fading head.
Aroma-fruity, bread, slight hop
Taste-yeasty fruity Belgian up front with hoppy finish that isn't very bitter. Balanced and unique.
Palate-light and bubbly, dry at the end.
Overall-a good hybrid beer that delivers what it intends-a good experimental satisfying beer with an identity complex. Would drink again.
4.4Excellent example of Belgium IPA style, balancing sweetness of Belgian yeast with hops of IPA that does justice to both.
3.9Dark amber colored pour. Small white head. Lacing. A crisp hop aroma with a nice malty background. Malty flavor with some caramel notes. Very good.
3.7From a bottle. Pours hazy copper with a thin foamy white head. Tastes smooth, light, crisp. Like creamy hops, molasses, hints of citrus. Light body and low/medium carbonation. Smells fermented, with hints of grapefruit, hops, toffee.
3.6Bottle. Pours clear, bright amber with creamy off-white head. Aroma is grassy and floral hops, biscuit and cereal malts, pear, and Belgian yeast. Flavor is fresh hop bitterness, bready malts, light fruit esters, and light herbs; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
3.9Bottle. Autumn leave amber in color. Nose of cloves and tropical fruit. Matches the taste. Not much lace. More sweet fruit than I would have expected. Above average brew IMO.
3.6This is definitely a Belgian IPA, and Terrapin does an excellent job of letting the IPA-like aspects shine through. Sometimes these beers just taste like a slightly bitter Belgian Ale. Pours a deep orange amber with white head. Scent is all booze and malts. Starts and finishes with a solid mix of bitter and sweet. Light medium body with good carbonation. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA
3.6Bottle. Pours clear apricot gold with white head. Nose and taste of peach, alcohol soaked citrus, orange peel, Belgian yeast and caramel malt. Lighter medium body.
3.7I’m tasting much more Belgian trippel then double IPA. That doesn’t make this a bad beer by any means, but will be a disappointment for anyone expecting anything resembling a typical DIPA. Theres a nice bitterness, and as you get halfway thru and the beer warms, that IPA comes out of hiding a bit. Glad I bought the 4-pack but not my favorite of the monster beer series.
3.812oz bottle into a goblet.
Pours a clear medium copper with a thin white head. Some splotchy head retention along with a thin ring around the edge of the glass.
Aroma is quite Belgian-like with clove and banana along with bread. There is some tropical fruit mixed in with that but it is on the light side. Some floral and perfume notes.
Clove and perfume on the taste along with lots of flowers. There is a muted tropical fruit character along with some ethanol. Bread and toast is buried underneath along with a moderate bitterness helping to balance out the sweetness.
Overall, a decent Belgian IPA but it all fees a bit muddy. I would like a little more hop character and less alcohol taste. Nonetheless one to pick up should you come across it.
3.4Pours a subtle hazy amber with a thin lace of off-white head. Aroma is banana and cloves with also some pungent citrus and pineapple esters. The flavor is good but the bitter IPA tendencies seem to clash with the sweetness of the belgian triple. This opposition does tend to wear down a bit after the beer has been allowed to breathe and mellow out a bit.
3.7Fruit, herbs, and hops in the nose blended with a subtle yeast smell. Golden with a white fluff. Bitter with balance. Medium bodied with a bitter herbal finish.
3.2pours a dark copper. floral up front spicy in the back. Not bad, but not the best terrapin side project. On tap at Terrapin Tap Takeover @ Argosy, ATL.
3.12012 Vintage.
Appearance: The body is crystal clear with a light amber hue, great color, but the head is very short on the pour and has poor retention.
Aroma: The aroma has fruity medicinal esters, reminding me of cherry syrup, with sweet malts and citrus hops.
Taste: This is an odd marriage of oranges and grapefruit, providing slight bitterness, with medicinal esters and sweet malts. Very odd, but enjoyable.
Palate: Medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall: I like this beer more than the ratings indicate, but that’s only because I’m a sucker for the medicinal esters. This is an average beer at best and could easily be solved through some minor changes. Heck just a better head would have given this a higher rating!
3.5Cloudy orange-copper with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, and Belgian yeast. Taste is malty and yeasty with alcohol, some nice citrus flavor and mild bitterness. Medium-full bodied. Decent stuff.
