3.4 Taste is a bit boozy. Smoked with some earthy hops. Can definitely taste the abv.
3.8 Canned. Dark pour beige head. Coffee, nutty and roasted. Pretty excellent...
3.8 Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is slightly sweet with the chocolate, molasses, and oatmeal. Coffee and roasted malts come out as well on the aroma. Flavor was much better than anticipated. Thick mouth feel with plenty of coffee. Decent bitter finish as well.
4.6 On tap at Whole Foods Market Fair Lakes in Virginia Aroma: coffee, roasty Appearance: black with a tan head Taste: medium sweet, medium bitter Palate: full body, average carbonation, long finish, creamy feel
3.9 Pours black with no head. Aroma is coffee and caramel. Taste is sweet latte with hints of vanilla, moving to a rich chocolate finish. A very solid, though not particularly complex imperial stout.
4.0 Can from Discount. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of tan head that lingers. Big coffee forward nose, dark cacao nib aromas. Wow, the coffee on the nose is really endless. Lots of coffee on the palate as well. Medium body with creamy coffee and milk chocolate yoo hoo on the palate. Rich dark chocolate fudge. Lingering coffee and bitter cacao on the finish with creamy, coating texture. Maybe my favorite Terrapin to date.
4.4 Near black pour with deep tan head. Aroma burnt wood, chocolate and coffee.taste follows nose with a nice set and bitter balance. Nice.
4.4 From Dec 2007 I got this bottle in a trade with RustyDiamond. Thanks Rusty! This pours from 12oz bottle a pitch black with a large head of tannish foam. The smell is a strong nose of coffee and roasted malt. I almost want to break out the fry pan and cook me some eggs and bacon. ;^) The taste is coffee dominated with side orders of chocolate, roasted malt, and just a bit of citrus hop bitterness lingering in the background. It finishes with a very roasted malt bitterness, the body is medium full, and it's fairly lightly carbonated. This is the first coffee inspired IS that comes close to going over the edge with the flavour. This is good and all but it's definetly going to take me some considerable time to finish this bottle and it's not because of the alcohol as I think it is hidden pretty well. Thanks again, Rusty! Edit: Jan 9, 2011: Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout...2007. I can't believe I let this one slip by for so long. There's certainly nothing wrong with the sound...a nice big pop when I removed the cap, and the look...Blackest of blacks and a decent though short lived head of tan foam. The smell has with a big Port like aroma with a ton of caramel malt and chocolate. No coffee left at all but I reckoned that would be the case. Big milk chocolate, caramel, Port flavours with mucho dark fruits. Holy hell. This is superb! Not what the brewer intended, for sure, but at this stage in the game, it drinks very much like a beautifully aged Old Ale or English Barleywine Ale. Still close to full bodied and there's mostly lightish carbonation until the swallow when I get some very spritzy notes on my throat. This is the surprise of this century so far for me. I would never have guessed that a most excellent coffee Stout would evolve into something even better. I wish I had a case of them so I could share!
3.7 Bottle. Pours pitch black with a thick tan head. Aroma of black coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Flavor of dark roasted coffee, vanilla, chocolate, oats and light caramel.
4.3 Can. For me this is a knockout. Worthy of the 9.4%, aromas reminded me of walking into the local roaster. Nice, frothy, persistent head when poured into a shallow, wide mouthed belgian glass. Really thick and really rich, smooth chocolate with a roast coffee bite. Almost ice creamy in the finish. Thanks, Max.
4.0 12 oz can pours black with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is basically nice coffee and chocolate.
3.9 Black with Foamy Lacy tan head; aroma is of black coffee; flava Is rich dark roast coffee with hop and sweeet malt notes; feels medium to Thick and creamy subtle fizzy zing; finishes dry bitter hop and coffee notes
4.2 Very delicious lots of coffee and chocolate dominate this one very sweet with a touch of bitterness pours pitch black thick with a light carbonation head rich and creamy and just a hint of oatmeal flavor to it would not have guessed it was 9.4% alcohol until I was done with my glass and could feel it.
4.1 Nice coffee sweet beer. Thin fading head. Sweetness and thickness. Dark Carmel and coffee. Lots of flavors.
4.0 12oz can. 2016 vintage. Appearance: Jet black, opaque, with a low lying khaki brown head. Aroma: Wow. Really strong rich roasted coffee dominates. A touch of dark chocolate is there, but the coffee roastiness is the main factor here. Taste: Starts with a rich dark chocolate, slowly turning over to a deep, rich coffee and a moderately high bitterness. Coffee character on the backside overrides the other flavors. Mouthfeel: Relatively heavy bodied with some creaminess from the oatmeal, and a light carbonation. Finish: Some bitterness lingers, but mostly a dark chocolate roasted malt character. Overall: One of the more coffee forward takes on the style, with an aroma that sets itself apart. This beer has some nice dark chocolate undertones, but really shines for the coffee character. Oatmeal adds some viscosity to the mouthfeel, but a bit of a boost in that side would be welcomed.
4.5 Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a pitch black color with a thick brown head. The aroma is roasted malt. The taste is malt and coffee.
3.5 Pours black with a minimal brown head. The coffee is upfront in the aroma. Earthy with notes of vanilla light smoke. The coffee also dominates the flavor with earthy notes and vanilla. Body is a bit thin for a stout. Lasting dry finish. Good but a bit overhyped.
4.4 Aroma is rich with chocolate, followed by a full bodied & robust coffee flavour on the palate layered across a crisp oatmeal stout foundation. Slight hints of vanilla are present along the edges of a molasses cookie richness. The finish is very satisfying, bringing grassy notes forward as the coffee complexity lingers. From the tap at Beverage World - Delicious!
4.5 DATE: July 24, 2016... OCCASION: a HOT summer day turns to a night of AC that will pair well with this stout... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... this "monster beer" pours a pitch-black body, a ring of brown, thin, bubbly head, and a nebula swirl in its middle... with the weighty alcohol content, this is a good-looking beer... robust espresso brine--like damp or dank decaff--blams the nostrils, with oatmeal and rum-like ethanol... a lively, instantaneously warming impact accompanies the smooth, creamy body that is beyond sippable for the power it packs... halfway through, the beer continues to deliver a stunning combination of peat, smoke and salty oatmeal with an intense chocolate and coffee bean punch... having trouble finding holes in this profile.. perhaps the only regret is this isn’t a bomber.... from its name to its label, from its impact to its flavor, quite impressive... I would seek this out again in a heartbeat, and what a boon from a breakpack mix...

4.1 Bottle from Perfect Pour. Nice dark black body with minimal brown head. Very inviting. Nose is plummy, malts, dark berries. Taste is of oatmeal up front with nce coffee and dark chocolate notes. Great creamy texture. Enjoyable.
4.4 12 ounce bottle. Opaque brown black color topped by a small creamy tan head. Aroma is subtle; roasted malt and rich dark roast coffee come to mind. First sip is sweet roasted malt and strong coffee. Rich silky mouthfeel. Midtaste has dark chocolate and warming alcohol notes. Finish is bittersweet with hints of licorice and resiny hops. This is a big brew with smooth flavor and complex integrated flavor throughout. One of the best American-made Imperial Stouts I have tasted. Definitely worth seeking out.
4.0 Pours pitch black. Big tan head. Aromas are massive coffee. Really good quality coffee. Aromas of cold coffee, dark fruit, sugar, vanilla, bubblegum. Tastes like cold coffee with sugar. Really tasty.
3.4 Appearance: pours with a very tiny dark tan head, the beer looks jet black as its coming out of the bottle, it's the same way in the glass with practically no brown edges Aroma: very strong coffee, dark toasted grain, maybe some alcohol Taste: coffee, has subtle and nicely balanced milky sweetness and coffee bitterness, some chocolate too Palate: soft carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: this is a big stout with lots of coffee Aroma and Taste, abv is hidden decently but this is a sipper, I like it
