4.0Smell is dark malt and barleywine sweetness. Taste is chocolate malted milk balls, general malt, caramel, and general barleywine. Full body with low carbonation.
3.8Bottle at craft ale house. Pours murky brown with a small brown head. The aroma has a nice brown sugar, cocoa, rich chocolate, and a bit of nuttiness. The taste is pretty sweet where the cocoa really comes out. Fairly smooth texture and a residual toasted nut taste. Solid at five years in.
4.3A - pours a thick dark chocolate with high tan large bubble head. S - really nice nose. Spiced and chocolate and warm and wintery. Raw cacao, cocoa powder, dark fruits (dried dates, raisins, figs, raisins, and toasted nuts. Light notes of dried cherries, quiet grains. M - full bodied with a nice rich complex palate. Starts with a tang, chewy middle and a warm spiced end. T - really nice raw cacao and dried cherries hit the taste first. Chocolate, cocoa powder and dried dates and raisins on a nice malty chewy palate. Oaky notes, toasted nuts, raw pecans, and cherries on the lips. O - wow. What a surprise. So much better than any of the other Xmas beers. Rich and sweet and complex and wintery.
3.8Tap at the bruery, pours murky brown. Aroma is rich dark fruits, light oxidized hops, taste is similar, overall pretty nice aged quad
2.5Bottle: Deep brown, mahogany & opaque with a rich, chunky tan foam that settles quick. Aroma of sweet molasses, toasted nuts, Candi sugar & a strong Belgian yeast presence. Unfortunately it comes off as quite medicinal on the nose & phenolic all around. Heavy, strong, prunes. Taste has even more toffee coated prunes with Candi sugar, caramel, & sugary glaze. Not as medicinal on the palate, but very sweet. Borderline cloying. Spicy Belgian yeast heavier towards the finish, clove, toasted caramel malt, faint anise, & prune finish. Not really my jam.
4.1"i wasn’t incredibly impressed by the aroma, although it was nice, but hot damn...the flavor is faaaaantastic. Holy cocoa nibs batman! This made for a very nice full bodied and luscious treat. the body and flavor were great, though the pecans take a backseat to the cocoa. warming, but not hot. well done."
2.2750ml bottle. HEavily oxidized, spices, slight nuttiness, dark fruit. Fargone by now.
3.0Bottle shared thanks to Charlie. Minimal to no head. Dark brown and murky. Nose of papery oxidation with some sherry notes. Taste is slightly tart with some Belgian funk and a lot of alcohol warming. Wow. I get minimal cocoa and no pecan flavor. As it warms it seems a bit infected. Definitely a bit tart and funky. I think this is on its way down.

3.9Pours a murky brown color with a very thin head. Got this as a gift for helping someone. It is quite tasty. Lots of chocolate bar flavoring with some nuts in the flavor. Sweet and delicious.

3.7Rated on 11-28-2009 (Bottle) When poured, this beer forms a large fizzy light brown head that quickly dissipated, opaque dark brown body, fizzy carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The Aroma is caramel malt, chocolate and nutty. The Taste is roasty, caramel malt, chocolate, nutty, and alcohol. The Palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this is a good cold weather beer, worth trying, would drink again and a beer I recommend.
3.5750 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville, opened 12/26/13. Pours a dark brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, dark fruits and a bit of spice. The taste is spice, tart fruits, nuts, chocolate, citrus. Medium bodied, low carbonation, slight booze. Decent.
3.4First time I had this it was very oxidized and I always vow to re-rate if I have a bad bottle and get to try the beer again. This bottle was purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits back when it came out and we cracked it open during my Christmas Movie Marathon on 12/20/14. Pours red chestnut brown with a thick tan head. I can tell by the head and the nose there is still some oxidation going on, but not as bad as it was with the first bottle I tried. Aroma of chocolate, roast, cherry and some cardboardy oxidation notes. Malty flavor with berry character and Belgian yeast esters before a chocolate finish. Bumped it up from 3.1 to 3.4.
3.8750ml. Thanks Nihar. Deep chocolate color, with a short-lived tan head. Strong spice cardamom? Flavor. Medium body, with a somewhat sour finish.
3.9750ml bottle. Caramel cocoa aroma. Similar taste. Seems a little sweet but still very enjoyable beer.
Mums

Thx to the kind donator
APPEARANCE: dark brown/reddish beer, small stable off white head.
NOSE: wood, sour, red fruits, coulis.
TASTE: sweet, somewhat sour (because it’s aged?), wood, little flat, still very good for it’s age. But never thought this was 12%??
3.7Dark brown to black pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of pecans, chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is primarily chocolate and roasted malt but there is some nuttiness as well. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.5Spicy; dark wine-esque notes jump forward. Caramelized booze atop the plums and dark fruit. Interesting; this has aged well.

Light molasses. Some dark chocolate. Earthiness. Light sweet bite in the finish. Good dark rich chocolatey belgian strong dark ale. Very robust and rich.
3.8750 ml bottle to snifter (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good; a dull and cloudy brownish-black with sticky beige head that dissipates into lacing and lively carbonation. Smells and tastes sweet and malty with notes of caramel and toffee. Nice on the palate too. Enjoyable.
3.8Scura non molta schiuma media persistenza bel lievito belga speziato fruttato nocci nocciole leggero etilico cioccolato cacao buon corpo liquirizia finale piuttosto lingo poco amaro
3.5Dark brown with a small brown head. Malty and fruity tones. malt, fruit, sour and bitterness. Full body with a long bitter / sour finish.
3.9Bottle from a trade, poured into a tulip. Pours reddish brown with a thick head. Very fizzy at first, similar to other Bruery anniversary beers. Nose is roast, caramel, dates, hops, chocolate. Flavor follows with malt, chocolate, and pecans; slightly tart, which made me wonder about infection. I think this is probably the best of the anniversary beers I’ve tasted from the Bruery.

Opaque brown beer, good tan head. Light palate, a little crisp and a little dry. Soft malt, slightly boozy with dried fruits on the back end. Finishes dry and warming. Nice but never totally engaging.
