The Bruery Grey Monday

The Bruery Grey Monday

Grey Monday is a special, limited edition version of our Black Tuesday imperial stout to which we’ve added hazelnuts to the barrels while the beer ages. Originally concocted for a molecular gastronomy dinner at a favorite Orange County restaurant a few years ago, this variation on our already popular stout was an instant hit both among the restaurant diners and our own staff, begging to be brewed again and bottled up.

4.0 Alkohol: 19,8% obj. Batch: #352 Data butelkowania: 04.10.2016 Kolor: Ciemny brąz, słaba przejrzystość Piana: Uboga, lekka i szybko pękająca piana. Maksymalnie szybko redukuje się do milimetrowego paseczka. Zero śladów na szkle. Alkohol: 19,8% obj. Zapach: Wow! Mocne, beczkowe, wybitnie degustacyjne piwo. Wysycenie: Niskie. Podsumowanie: Grey Monday to kolejna wariacja znanego piwa The Bruery - Black Tuesday. W tej wersji dodano orzechów laskowych. W aromacie są one mocno wyczuwalne. W smaku zostały stłamszone przez beczkę. Piwo ma wiele do zaoferowania. Szeroki wachlarz elementów bourbonu, czekolady, ciemnych owoców i intensywnych cukierków Kukułek.
4.0 750ml bottle thanks to Toby. Pours out a black topped with a small brown head. Nose is light nutty notes vanilla and chocolate booze. Taste is more of the nice nutty notes lots of sweetness and booze.
4.2 750 ml bottle at share, courtesy of Toby. Pours out the normal, but nice retention on the head gives it a better look. Aroma is nutty, but a bit too much like flavoring and not real nuts. Still good. Lots of vanilla, chocolate, roasty notes on top of a velvety feel. Really superb, and aged well.

4.2 Rami Rami is drinking a Grey Monday by The Bruery at Wita Stwosza Migdaly, czekolada, orzechy, kawa, kandyowane, wanilia.
4.3 Draft at ANXO, 1-19-17 Sharon only (hazelnuts)
4.1 Sampled at an esbls. Murky dark brown. No foam. Big malty sot nose. Nuts. Flavor brings alcohol in my exhales. Sweet! This is delicious. I want more time with this. Delicious!
4.9 Pour is a still complex brown and black. Thick. Smells like strong leather and smoky licorice. Nutty, caramel and boozy fruit. Taste follows: nuts and caramel, boozy fruity and thick. Syrupy. Long residual boozed up fruit aftertaste.
3.6 Draft @ Churchill's, San Marcos, with Richiesd. Black color. Beige head, short retention. Aroma's: light hazelnut, fruity alcoholic, sweet. Retronasal it's sweetish, fruity alcoholic, light hazelnut. Flavor is above moderate sweet, but not cloying, alcohol. Strong alcoholfeel. Medium bodied. Long finish, fruity.
4.1 Bottle courtesy of André & bottle @ Bruery Bonanza 2017. Black pour with a pale mocha head. Roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, bourbon & light Nutella. Sweet, bitter, malty & boozy taste. Round, tiny viscous, astringent & boozy mouth. Surprisingly balanced & very tasty
4.3 Dark, creamy. Aroma: from bottle - very intensive nutella, hazelnuts, from glass - chocolate, cocoa, vanilla biscuits bourbon. Incredibly thick body, nice carbonation, discinct alcohol.
4.2 W aromacie potężny dwaka orzechów laskowych, sporo czekolady, palonych słodów. Smak bardzo słodki, od początku do końca. Trochę alkoholowe, rozgrzewające, ulepkowate.
4.1 Barwa nieprzejrzyście czarna, piany brak. Aromat średnio intensywny, orzechy w gorzkiej czekoladzie, pumpernikiel, wyraźny alkohol. W smaku pełne i słodkie, melasa, cukier kandyzowany, czekolada z nutą orzechów laskowych, kawa. Finisz wyraźnie alkoholowy, drapiący gardło. Praliny czekoladowe z wódką.
4.4 Dark brown, no head. Aroma: molase, alcohol, bourbon. Full body, very sweet. Taste: sweetness, molasse, dark fruits caramel, bit alcohol.
4.7 My goodness this was heavenly good. Hmm maybe the place to share it was meant to be. Black color with a solid beige head. Looks fine. Nice lacing. Solid aroma. Full body and a smooth carbonation level. Nice rich (but yet mellow) sweetness and a oily texture. Warming alcohol. Unbelievable well masked at 19%. Lasting flavor with chocolate, toffee, molasses, nutty, espresso, oak and vanilla. Solid stuff! [Shared bottle at Assistens Kirkegård! in Copenhagen, Denmark]
4.3 750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/4/2016. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger foamy khaki head with poor retention, and reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Plenty of alcohol legs on the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, hazelnuts, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, fudge, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, raisins, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, hazelnuts, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, hazelnuts, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, fudge, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, raisins, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate bourbon/oak spiciness and light roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, hazelnuts, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, fudge, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, raisins, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, hazelnuts, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from bourbon/oak spiciness and roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and fairy full body; with a smooth, creamy/silky, and lightly slick/syrupy/sticky/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden; a small lingering warmth, with mild booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, hazelnuts, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the enormous ABV. I was hoping for more intense hazelnut character from this; but it seems to be much more balanced between the malt, barrel, and hazelnut flavors. A highly enjoyable offering regardless.
4.3 (The Bruery Grey Monday) Bottle 750ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 18.5%. Vintage 2014. Black coloured body, small and frothy dark brown head, with low retention. Aroma of bourbon, alcohol, roasted malts, vanilla, some hazelnuts in there but not as pronounced as I expected. Taste is sweet with bourbon and vanilla, alcohol, roasted malts, molasses, some hazelnut on the back. Thick body, soft carbonation. Very good.
4.0 Pours muddy dark brown with minimal head Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, dried, light notes of liqourize, chocolate Taste has bold, warming, sweet notes of alcohol, bourbon, brown sugar, chocolate, dried fruits
4.0 Pours hazy dark brown with a low off white head. Aromas of caramel, ripe apple, raisins, plums, oak, muscovado sugar, vanilla. Taste is caramel sweetness with nutty notes and prominent oak character. Mouthfeel is full bodied with oily notes and very low carbonation.
4.0 750 ml bottle. Nose is huge vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, hazelnuts. Lots of cocoa. Sweet, boozy flavor, lots of chocolate and hazelnuts. Over-powering but pretty awesome.
3.7 Bomber. Big dark fruit and chocolate aromas. Lots of alcohol fumes. Dark brown with translucent edges. Super sweet fruit initial, with chocolate, some alcohol burn, dark burnt sugar, and ooohhh!!! Heavy body and quite hot. The hazelnuts are lost somewhere among the alcohol and the sweetness. Very tasty, to be sure... but so rich and alcoholic.
3.8 Bottle share @ Hampton Inn pre-DLD 2016. Pour hazel / brown with a very small beige head that fades quickly. Aroma and flavor of dark chocolate, roasted malt, hazelnuts, booze, and caramel. Finish is boozy and sweet.
4.3 Pours midnight black. Deep cherry and a bit of peated oak. A tad sweet. But the alcohol does create a warming aftertaste that few beers do. Really nicely made.
4.1 26 may 2017, tap at Bruery. 2014 batch. Nose is walnuts, blue fruit (raisins, digs, plums?), moderate booze. Med body, almost flat, faintly syrupy. Hazelnut comes out in flavor, some tobacco, raisins. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Very nice. 10 Nov 2016, tap at Bruery Terreux. med/dark brown. nose is boozy, soy sauce, and hazelnuts. med/full body and moderately fizzy. seriously, smells and tastes like sweet soy sauce with some nuts. not a fan.
4.0 Draft 4 oz pour at Beer Junction. Hate hazelnuts, but not nearly enough to pass on trying a beer like this. A muddy brown pour with almost no head to start. A huge aroma of dough, vanilla, milk chocolate, and some Berry. Flavor is a boost chocolate, and a nutty cherry note. Like a cherry walnut flavor. Huge beer here. Unique and memorable. Very good stuff.
4.1 Beer Jumction, Seattle. Small draft pour. Nice ring foam. Thick, heavy brown. Whoa, this is a big heavy beer. Toffee nougat. Distinct alcohol note, cherry like, on nose and finish. Creamy, heavy syrup. Plenty of bite. This beer is an experience. Hazelnut is present but under the weight of the alcohol and stout. Fascinating and nice.
