The Bruery Mash & Vanilla

The Bruery Mash & Vanilla

This is our classic bourbon barrel-aged barleywine – kicked up a notch. We took Mash, already oaky, sticky and sweet, and amplified its barrel character with the addition of fresh vanilla beans. This vanilla prominence is complemented by the woody bourbon flavors and coconut notes that are imparted to the beer as part of its extensive maturation in oak bourbon barrels. Mash & Vanilla is best enjoyed fresh to experience the vanilla flavors at peak strength.

3.5 [Uzupełnienie ocen z Untappd]. niestety pierwsze uderzenie to alkohol. W smaku dosyć gładkie, aksamitne, wanilia i owoce w opór. Jednak odczucie alko za wysokie. Całkiem ok.
3.6 Pours slightly murky with a nice head. Colour isn't very inviting. Aroma is. A lot of vanilla and dried fruit, followed by marzipan, some raisins. Taste is focused on vanilla, dried fruit and slightyl malty.
3.9 Bourbon barrel aged barleywine by The Bruery, with added vanilla beans - sounds delicious. Draught at BeerTemple in Amsterdam, thanks Craftmember for sharing! Pale greyish beige, mousy, loose but largely stable, open head over a more or less clear, coppery bronze beer with warm rusty-mahogany hue. Aroma of indeed strong and 'real' vanilla, marzipan, candied fig, mangistan, caramel sauce, apple cake, dates, pecan nut pie, sweet bourbon, raisin bread, cinnamon, brown rum, marmalade. Sweet onset, residual brown sugariness coating candied cherry- and fig-like fruitiness, soft carb, lean and vinous mouthfeel, perhaps a tad on the thin side for a beer of this strength. The sweetness decreases further on, through a slick toffeeish and sweet cashew-nutty middle yet still with a lot of residual sugariness; pronounced retronasal vanilla as expected, matching well with aspects of marmalade, toffee and candied fig, before a long, peppery, very bourbon-like alcohol heat sets in, ending a tad on the wry side. Very alluring, but somehow it feels a tad too thin to carry its heavy alcohol load; of course, tap beers tend to be a little smoother and thinner than bottled versions, so this will probably feel a bit fuller and more intense from a 75 cl bottle - the thought of which makes my mouth water, as I'm still a sucker for strong Bruery beers in their elegant champagne bottles.
3.9 Kran. Aromat wanilia, słodki, ciasteczkowy, czekolada. W smaku ciasto, wanilia, czekolada mleczna, goryczka alkoholowa.

3.4 A 5 oz serving on tap at the Alibi Room in Vancouver. A dark brown beer with a bit of white head and a pleasant but indistinct nose. The vanilla is upfront and a bit too pronounced for my taste, otherwise a barleywine. Based on this, I prefer my barleywine without the dubious benefit of vanilla. 3.4

4.3 On tap, Beergeek, Prague. Extremely intense, comes jumping out of the glass. Alcohol is strongly evident but not in a troublesome way. Vanilla and the bourbon notes are accented, which creates an interesting mélange. Quite expensive but may well be worth it. Thanks Breuery for the experience!
