The Bruery Poterie

The Bruery Poterie

Poterie is French for “pottery”, the traditional eight-year anniversary gift. Our eighth anniversary ale, Poterie, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain and then blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The result is layered in robust and complex flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Poterie will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly.

4.1 A murky reddish copper ale with no head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with loads of dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. In mouth, beautiful mix of sweet caramel malt with candy sugar, dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and rich. On tap at Clandestin as Saule.
4.7 75 cl bottle served in a snifter. Poured dark brown with small light tan head that dissipated immediately. Lots of yeast strains in glass. Minimum carbonation. Aroma: bourbon, bourbon, and...what a surprise...some more bourbon....then, cognac, oak, vanilla, toasted coconut, chocolate, plums, sultana, caramel, toffee, raspberries. Taste: dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oak, toasted coconut, plums, sultana, dates, almond paste, nougat, Graham crackers, rum soaked raisin bread, raspberries, figs compote, licorice, molasses, muscovado sugar, soy sauce, apricots, strawberry jam, butter cake, praline chocolate, dark fruit, cacao butter. A chewy and oily mouthfeel...this is awesome! A long fruity bittersweet finish with a lot and lot of bourbon. So complex...this is perfection in a glass...beer porn...and now I just have to stash a bottle or two of this nectar for my cellar to see how it ages. What an insane sensational brew.
4.0 [At Mig & Ølsnedkeren - Aarhus] [Vintage - 2019] Aroma: Rich dark fruits, dates, raisins, caramel and bourbon Appearance: Amber brown with a small short-lasting head Taste: Moderate sweet and bitter, caramel and dark dried fruits including dates, plums and raisins Mouthfeel: Oily texture with soft carbonation Overall: Impressive complex taste but it lacks a bit on the mouthfeel thickness :)

1.7 2013 bottle, a total drain pour for all concerned at the tasting
4.2 Draft at Fire Works Leesburg. Pours Coca-Cola brown with a khaki head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Big bourbon on the nose and tongue. Hides it’s booze well. It’s a pretty easy drinker.
4.1 Tested from bottle. Pours a dark cloudy brown with white head. Aroma is bourbon, dates, raisins. Thick, sticky, chewy with slight alcohol burn. Flavors of dark fruits, molasses, caramel, bourbon. Interesting and complex beer.
4.0 Aromat wanilii, toffi, karmel, słodki. W smaku słodkie i to nawet bardzo, lekko kwaśne. Ale bardzo dobre i złożone piwo.
4.5 From bottle (Saule version: 16.1% abv) in hourglass. Pours dark brown w/light tan head, aroma of molasses, leather, licorice, nutmeg. Incredibly rich malty taste, almost a treacle liqueur. Outstanding
3.2 Tap at rbabarrab (as Bruery Etain). Pours dark brown. Aroma and flavor are very sweet, malt, caramel, booze, bourbon. Feels sticky. Overall: ok.
4.0 Tap. Hazy brown color with off-white head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, brown malts, raisins, some red wine flavors. Taste is the same again, lots of barrel sugars, almost vineous. Thick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Crazy, but good.
3.8 Brun ikke skum brun Vanilje træ Peber træ alc chokolade Bitter lidt sød lidt Cremet blød
4.8 Great beer, enough said👍🍻
4.1 Tap @Rbarrabbrabb. As Etain. Clear dark red brown, small offwhite head. Steong barrel aroma. Bourbon, whisky and red wine notes. Sweet malty flavour, loads of barrel and wood. Bourbon mostly. Good bitter, slightly acidic bite. Good.
4.3 Redirected here from the 10th year anniversary Etain (2018, bourbon barrel aged, 16.3% ABV) Clear brown, cola-like color, quickly disappearing bit beige thin head. Strong bourbon, dark fruit, oak aroma. Complex vanilla, oak, roasted barley, caramel, dried fruits flavor. Warm finish with bourbon notes, rich and heavy body.
4.5 Toffee/ toffee apple and chocolate in the mouth slightly sour. Nose of chocolate caramel. Bottle, shared.
3.7 Piwo mocno alkoholowe, w smaku karmel, beczka po bourbonie, dość duża słodowość.
3.7 Bottle from ar. Pours ugly brown with light head. Tastes of chocolate, nuts, boozy, hint of coconut. Solid
4.1 opalescent reddish dark amber (almost mahogany) colour, minimal sized dense beige-sih head; aroma and taste of walnut liqueur, caramel, biscuits, chocolate and slight coconut notes; great one!
4.1 0.75l bottle thanks to Lore. Brown body with a beige head. Aroma and taste of caramel, cocoa, nutmeg, toast, bourbon and apples. Spicy and a bit sour in the finish. The booze is apparent, but way softer than what you'd expect from a 16+ ABV beer. Vety nice.
3.9 Pours an odd color. Looks like Merkey water. The head disappeared immediately. The aroma is wonderful. Chocolate, Figs, Bourbon. I could smell this all day!! The taste has an alcohol presents but not overpowering. Chocolate Dark fruit, bourbon. An outstanding ale!!!!!
3.8 Massive plum pudding aroma in a mid brown pour. Similarly massive plum pudding taste with a sweetness that makes for a perfect desert beer. Not really my style - so probably better than my rating would indicate.
4.2 Red brown colour with thin head. Aroma is quite fruity and boozy. Some vanilla. Flavour is very intense with dried fruits and caramelised red fruits. Lots of vanilla too. Very rich.
3.7 On tap @Mig og Ølsnedkeren. Pours deep red, with little to no foam. Scent: Chocolate, bourbon, roasted malts. Taste: Berries, long aftertaste, bourbon. Texture: Soft, low carbonation.
3.7 750 ml bottle as The Bruery Saule. 2017 vintage. Courtesy of Euphemos. Enjoyed on Jan 4 2019. Dark brown color with a small light tan head. Sweetness, booze, malt, Bourbon, dark fruits and plums in the aroma. Malty and sweet Barley Wine. Bourbon sweetness and booziness. A bit too strong to talk to me.
3.6 Per Bruery, a barrel aged ale in the style of an English ale that is blended with some fresher beer from the next year. This bottle is from 2016…consumed Jan, 2019: Nose of caramel with some fruit and bourbon; brown hue w/ tan head that dissipates quickly to rim lace; oily with medium body mouthfeel; taste is boozy with bitter fig and candi malt & a bit of vanilla from the oak; finishes with a dank woody & slightly astringent dark fruitiness carryover. Booziness background continues.
4.0 Taster, many thanks to Werckmeister! Dark copper body, with a medium, creamy, beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, vanilla, cocoa, candy sugar, some coffee, bourbon, some dried fruits, moderate booze. Tastes similar, with more booze. Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes boozy, warm, astringent, medium sweet, wooden, with cocoa, chocolate, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, some fruits. Tasty. Pretty boozy, as expected, while so rich and comfortable, with broad layers of smooth, sweet notes. Not something I would often drink, but great to sip on a cold winter day. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16
3.4 0,75l bottle at home shared by Thomas, big thanks. As Etain 2018. 16.3% ABV. black color, small tan head. smells peppery, liqueur, nutty, bourbon, some sweetness. nice smell. full body, light carbonation, oily mouthfeel. tastes of raisins, nutty, marizipan, some bourbon, quite a bit of booze. finishes quite boozy with notes of bourbon, marzipan and nutty notes. quite boozy, probably should have drunk this after two years in the cellar.
