The Bruery Trade Winds Tripel

The Bruery Trade Winds Tripel

Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening. (ABV: 8%, IBU: 25, SRM: 5, Release: Summer, Format: 750 mL bottles)

3.7 750 ml bottle on 23rd Dec 2017. Easy drinking Tripel with lots going on. Golden pour, hazy towards the final glass, off-white head on each pour. Aroma has a delicate spicy feel, some floral notes, a yeasty undertone and a mild bubblegum afterthought. The taste was a pleasant mixture of light fruitiness with a citrus leaning, spicy fried rice and yeasty flavours. Liked it.
3.5 Bottle at tasting. Hazy med orange with light grayish head. Wine yeast, barley malt. Sweet with wine, grapes, anise, potato. An interesting tripel to be sure.
3.7 Bottle from online shop. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, thai basil, earthy notes, toast and grass. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, thai basil, toast, earthy notes and grass. Very nice tripel.
2.7 From Sept 2008 I bought this bottle from South Bay D&L. Thanks Joey! 750ml capped bottle: As soon as I popped the cap, the liquid started to slowly gush out of the bottle but I didn't lose a drop. A hazy, then cloudy, orange gold in colour, I got a 2 finger head of foam with some good lacing. Very nice looking brew. The smell is very fruity and yeasty and spicy(coriander mostly) and yeah, I can smell the basil that they mention on the label. A good nose. The taste is very fruity up front. I get notes of pear and some apple tartness but then the spices move in and take control. Coriander tops it along with some basil and there's an overall tartness that tastes lemony to me. It also has some sweetness that's very candy sugar like and overall, the flavours are pleasing but...and I've seen the comments about this and have to agree...this one is *way* over carbonated. Very prickly on the tongue and cuts down on the drinkability and enjoyment big time. Also, I don't think the alcohol is all that well hidden. This is a light bodied brew, the carbonation, again, is over the top, and it finishes spicy and bitter. Bottom line: This is my first sampling from The Bruery and well, I'm not very fond of this Tripel and I'm a big fan of well made Tripels. A step in the right direction would be to cut down on the carbonation. That's the one factor in this brew that really made it tough to drink never mind enjoy.
3.3 I don’t drink much of this style so don’t turn this down based on my rating. I didn’t think the spices helped the overall flavor. IMHO, they were a negative.
3.6 Pours a nice dark straw from a bottle, thick white head. Sweet herbal aroma dissipates into a yeasty sweet basily wonder. Round, nearly oily mouthfeel. Pretty good beer.
4.1 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy golden with white head. Aroma of light bread, flowers, herbs, mint, lemon balm, fruity notes. Tastes pretty sweet with fruity sourness and a little bitterness. Medium bodied, fruity finish.

3.7 75cl Bottle @ Cervezalandia, Vall d’Uixo, Spain Hazy golden colour with a thick white head. Aroma is malt, yeast, citrus, spices, fruits. Taste is malt, sweet, toffee, yeast, citrus, spices, ripe fruits. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.0 Tripel belgian beer. Light cooper colour with white head, spicy, floral, fruity and a bit hoppy. Elegant and funny.
3.3 25.4floz (750ml) bottle, I think I paid about $9 for this several months ago, 8.6% ABV, 2016 edition, poured into a tulip glass. Looks excellent, rich yellow hue and large forming head quickly stabilizes. Bubblegum aroma has some semblance to Juicy Fruit. Palate is heavy, hot, and phenolic. Also, the taste lingers much too long, and is only so-so for my liking.
4.2 06-JUL-2017, bottle @home, from Kihoskh. This has a bit of age. Don’t know how much. Not several years but at least one. Huge White head on a beatiful hazy orange body. Malts, toast, citrus, Herbs. The herbal part not too much. Very creamy, full body, sweet. Wonderful.
3.8 bomber - it’s a tripel with a spicy finish. boozy finish. I’m a little preoccupied right now with hard drive issues.
3.8 Panel w Carpe Kraft. W aromacie sporo nut ziołowych z przewagą rumianku, jest też dosyć słodko jakby miód wielokwiatowy. Rozgrzewające w przełyku aczkolwiek pozostawia wrażenie lekkiego, spore wysycenie, jest też trochę jakby nut gumy balonowej.
3.7 750 ml bottle pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of basil, grains and some fruit. Taste is grains and spice.
3.4 On tap at Holsteins in LV Pours clear deep golden with a small off-white ring, no lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malts and citrus. Flavor of toffee, sweet malts, rice and citrus zest
3.7 Grassy floral aroma in a golden pour. Subtle addition of rice and basil make this an excellent variation on the style.
3.6 75 cl. bottle. A hazy golden coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of yeast, fruit, spice, hops, herbs, malt and coriander.
3.6 2+ year old bottle. light malty, faint floral aroma. gold and hazy in color with huge long lasting head. taste is lightly malty with faint coriander, herbal, and lemon flavors
3.8 There are aspects of this beer that are quite impressive. Namely it’s appearance, and aroma. The taste is alright, but the aroma is where this beer shines. I’m guessing the Thai Basil is the thing that detracts. Kind of dries it out. Interesting experiment, and kind of a mixed bag overall.
3.8 Wzorcowy tripel. W aromacie świeże zioła, w tym właśnie bazylia z miętą, duża ilość słodu i kilka akcentów kwiatowych i fenolowych. W smaku bogatsze doznania. Dosyć słodkie, ciut ulepkowate, dużo kandyzowanych owoców - figi i daktyle, ciut szczypiące w usta, przyprawowe. Goryczka na średnim poziomie z akcentem kwiatowym.

3.2 Botrtle Aroma-orange, juice Appearance- golden, hazy, white foam, Taste-medium sweetness, lightly sour, lightly bitter, Palate-medium body, slick feel, average carbonation, long finish, Overall-not bad
4.2 Clear deep golden hue with a thin sticky white head. Bright estery funky Belgian hay nose with a light tree fruity undertone and a little grainy chewy funk. Smooth but large palate with a bit of Belgian blonde malt, a smooth gentle pepperiness and Belgian estery funk and a kiss of tree fruit. Very nicely done, complex and approachable and clean.
4.2 A yummy beer, this is tingly throughout. Wouldn’t be able to identify the basil, but the beer is light and airy. Nice enough
3.8 Nose is spicy (must be the basil), yeasty, with some caramel and a hint of funk.Hazy gold with a big, pale tan, glass laciing head. Flavor is lightly sweet caramel and yeast with a hint of background bitterness. Tastes much better than it smells.
3.7 Bottle. Pours clear golden big fluffy-sticky head. Aroma: lagerish, malty, weak hay, light berries, a bit souris, juicy, raw banana. Taste: medium sweat, herbs, weakly sour, hay, not sweet candy, Medium body. Not a typical Tripel but really interesting and balanced taste. Nice.
