The Hop Concept Hop Freshener Series: Citrus & Piney

The Hop Concept Hop Freshener Series: Citrus & Piney

Available April 2015.

Bold orange peel and honey aromas with a faint hint of bready malt define this IPA. The citrus and piney are both on full display, with tangerine and grapefruit notes that lead to a crisp spicy finish. Brewed with orange zest.

3.5 Ummm... hmmm... not really my thing. Good brewer, but this thing doesn't really do it for me: lacks a crispness? A hop identity? pint can
3.9 65cl Bottle @ LaBIRRAtorium, Madrid, Spain. Amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma is hops, citrus, pine, herbs. Taste is hops, citrus, resin, grass, herbs. Medium body, average carbonation.

Seca.
3.8 650 ml bottle courtesy of MK. Pours a modestly cloudy golden orange with moderate-sized white head. Aroma is citrusy and piney (surprise) with subtle sweet maltiness. Flavour is grapefruit, orange zest, spicy pine and sweet bready maltiness. ABV is subtle. Impressive.
4.1 It is what it says on the label citrus and piney, this is a lovely refreshing drink.
3.3 Quite precise in name. Mostly citrus, orange kick with some pine character. Light sweetness with moderate bitterness, quite dry. Felt bit boring.
3.8 Amber with medium white head. Happy aroma. Strong enough hoppy bitterness rich of sweet-sour fruity (citrus) notes.
3.4 Keg at brewdog Edinburgh. Pours orange, nose is herbal, earthy, grapefruit, taste salty citrus, herbal, dry and bitter.
2.7 keg at brewdog Edinburgh... Amber.. Thin white lacing... Soft sweet crystal toffee fruit... Herbal bitter fruits
3.9 Bottle. Pours a glowing orange color with a thick finger of creamy beige head. Aroma is citrus and pine, followed by a heavy piney bitters taste with light citrus sweetness. Plenty of grapefruit flavor in there too. The bitterness is assertive with pine and pithy grapefruit, but it begs sip after sip. Lingering finish.
3.7 Keg, Brewdog Leicester. Hazy golden with an off white head. Bready malts with citrus rind, sweet orange and bittersweet grapefruit. Spicy, peppery pine with a spritzy body. Beautiful burps. Dangerously drinkable.
3.5 Keg tap at BrewDog Leicester. Golden. Clear with a spotty white film of head. Citrus aroma which is light yet enticing: pink grapefruit, blood orange. Taste is bitter with a sweet balancing edge from the subtle malt. The balance holds all the way to the slightly more bitter finish. Light oily body with low carbonation. Tasty.
3.8 Pours cloudy golden with low white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, light grapefruit marmalade, some tropical fruit. Taste is sweet up front followed by a fairly rich lingering bitter finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.
3.6 Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. An orange coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, orange aroma. Tastes quite similar, hoppy, citrus, orange, some grapefruit, quite bitter. Decent.
3.5 From bottle to glass. One of my least favorites in this series, but still better than average. Citrus is stronger than the pine.
3.5 Tap @ Doghouse. Orange amber not much head. Tangerine hops aroma. Bitter orange boiled sweet flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Decent and hides alcohol well.
3.7 Lemon and orange aromas from a hazy medium yellow body with a small white head. Orangey citrus flavor follows into the taste with a definite addition of piney bitterness. That combination is excellent and refreshing. There’s a bit of spiciness to the pine bitterness which is offset slightly by a good caramel sweetness. Medium bodied which keeps it easy to drink but not light. Finishes with a lasting citrus/spice flavor and a lasting bitterness on the tongue. Another excellent beer in the Hop Freshener series!
3.5 Clear gold. Full body, flavorful, fizzy mouthfeel with low heat, long aftertaste, tasty finish. Bitter, crisp, dry. Intensely hoppy, resiny, malty. Big IPA, grows on you.
3.5 Sample at Burger. Foamy full flavored. Some citrus plus grapefruit hoppy finish. Looking forward to a pint soon!
3.7 Aroma is spicy/slightly piney hops and fried fish, oddly. The flavor is citrus, spices/a hint of fish fry, grapefruit, slightly juicy hops and a bitter/warming alcoholic finish.
3.7 Pours cloudy orange. Exactly as it says, aroma of pine and citrus, with taste of pine and citrus. Combo worked well. Full mouthfeel. Plenty of hops. Tap.
4.1 Bottle. Very nice bottle of grapefruit and resin. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet. Flavor of pine resin, bitter grapefruit and orange zest, some caramel at finish. Aftertaste is dry and bitter, orange zest flavor. Full body, oily and slick texture, light to medium carbonation. Hint of alcohol. Very nice.
3.9 Cloudy dark orange pour from 22oz bottle at Lakehouse. Fresh orange and tangerine aroma. Hoppy and bitter - tropical and a little soapy but it's good
3.5 Poured from bottle from Redstone Andover copper orange with a nice one finger white head. Aromas of caramel malt citrus and hops. Taste is citrus peel and overly malty hops. Again wish there was a date and more stuff than malt.
3.4 Bomber shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks, TJ! Pours orange gold with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, grapefruit, pine. Flavor is caramel, grass, grapefruit pith.
3.0 22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy hops upfront, some weird herbal notes and bready malt. Flavour brings out dry piney hops, bready malt and some weird herbal, earthy notes. Too herbal and earthy, with a dry, cerealy finish. Solid but a bit jumbled and off.
3.8 On tap at UoB Sacramento, thick/light/lasting head, fairly crisp, mealtimes fade to peel and bitterness. This beer seems underrated.
3.8 22 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Freshest by 8/3/2016 etched on the side of the bottle. Mostly clear golden orange with just over a finger of off-white head. Aromas of citrus, floral notes, dank garlic, some tropical fruit. Tastes of citrus, light tropical fruit, floral notes, pine. Medium body with a dry finish. Pretty good.
4.0 Slightly cloudy thin white head. Crisp floral aroma. Very full bodied a lot of citrus grainey floral.
