Based on a recipe from 1890 from the old Truman Brewery archives (London Brewery).
Simple recipe, massive taste. Dark, dark black. Oily texture. Loads of rich dried fruit and alcohol warmth rum and raisin. Then a herbal hop bitterness on top of huge lingering espresso. Hints of leather, tar, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Roasty.

Svart med lys brunt skum. Lukter kakaopulver og noe kaffe. Middels fylde. Smaker mørk sjokolade, kaffe og noe salt lakris.
Nice beer, dry and very well made. Lots of depth and complexity. A little too bitter for the style, but defines the style pretty well otherwise. Bier konig ams

Huge long lasting head.
Aroma: deep! Burnt caramel, bonfire toffee, treacle.
Very Soft carbonation, creamy mouthfeel.
Taste: compex, big roastiness, very dark chocolate. Lingering cocoa bitterness. A belter! And at a very good price too.
I’ll seek out The Kernel’s beers from now on.

# 2426; 2/2021. Roasty aroma, cocoa, vinous, slightly earthy. Deep brown to black; large, creamy, persistant brown head. High roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, high bitterness, dry finish, slight warm impression, earthy. Excellent beer. 0,33 l, bottle, beershop, Prague.
Kawa, kakao, bardzo mocno palony finisz, idealny wygląd. Intensywne, wyjątkowo smaczne. Znakomity jest ten browar.
Bottle 0.33l from Melgers, Haarlem, The Netherlands. 15.01.2021. Pour it dark color with small brown head. Aroma nice roasted malt, chocolate. Taste smooth, thick, chocolate, roasted malt, light brownies flavor, full body, long after taste.
Schwarz mit einem satten cremig-beigen Kopf. Aroma von gerösteten Malzen, Kaffee, dunkler Schokolade, einigen Steinobst. Glatt und cremig mit einer subtilen geringen Kohlensäure. Der Geschmack ist reich an gerösteten Malzen und einer mürrischen Mitte mit Noten von dunkler Schokolade und getrockneten Früchten. Ziemlich trockener bitterer Abgang, aber ich denke nicht, dass es übertrieben ist. Tolles Zeug.
500ml can of draught from my Beer Shop Christmas box. 7.5% ABV. Pours a deep black with a rich tan head that holds solidly. Nose is delicious and heady, coffee, chocolate, butterscotch, plum pudding. Huge syrupy sweetness, with a good dose of roast malt bitterness. Lingering balanced roast malt finish. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel, smooth carbonation. Absolutely superb.
330ml glass bottle from Drinkers Paradise, Kentish Town. Pours into a branded stout glass at cool room temperature. Dated as best before 06/2021.
The beer pours black, a big cinder toffee colour head that quickly dissipates to nothing. Lots of visible small bubbles.
The aroma, as with the taste and palate, of this beer is straightforward. Roasted malt, high cocoa dark chocolate, some coffee bean. Nothing too extraordinary but good.
The taste is dominated by the heavily roasted malt and dark chocolate notes, but with an absence of any ash notes. Medium high bitterness with a touch of milk chocolate low level sweetness at the end. Simple but tasty.
Memorable palate with a well judged level of bitterness and no unpleasant flavours. An aftertaste that seems to slowly simmer out rather than suddenly disappearing. A thin mouthfeel distracts slightly.
Overall, a tasty enjoyable stout for a damp winters evening.
330ml bottle. Black with a rich creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, some stone fruits. Smooth and creamy with a subtle low carbonation. Taste is rich roasted malts and a moreish middle with dark chocolate and dried fruit notes. Quite a dry bitter finish but I don't think its overdone. Great stuff.

Color negro opaco con abundante espuma marrón, duradera y cremosa.
Aroma tostado, maltoso, con predominancia de café, madera y fruta.
En boca sorprende muy por encima de su abv, con una textura y un sabor intensos, muy adictivos, que traen nuevas resonancias cafeteras, de fruta madura, pasas, caramelo, lúpulo y toques cítricos.
Aromas a fruta deshidratada y a tostado y madera
Aspecto negro opaco espuma marrón persistente y cremosa
En boca llena de matices, café, tostados, madera y licorosa

Il faudra comment une recette historique peut avoir 6 niveaux abv différents !!
en l'occurrence 7,8 – 7,7 – 7,1 – 6,9 – 6,8 ; et maintenant 7,2 …
Mon exemplaire était juste au milieu de la gradation avec 7,1 % abv, et avait
18 mois de bouteille pour 24 proposés en best.
Couleur intense, à l'opacité très forte.
Mousse brun roux foncé, bien crémeuse, stable à 3 mm.
Arômes superbes de malt grillé, ganache, pralines, pointe de vin cuit.
1ère bouche sur un dry stout, avec beaucoup de bois brûlé.
Arrière-bouche avec charbon de bois, cendres, marrons.
2ème bouche qui introduit les notes douces, sur la base grillée précédente.
Arrière-bouche à l’équilibre très bien placé, entre dry et sweet.
Longueur qui maintient cet équilibre à un très haut niveau.
Jambes lisses, longues.
Levure boisée, intéressante.
Alcool très bien pour ce niveau " medium ", il est pour moi à son meilleur
niveau pour le style développé.
Finale qui trouve des traces de noix.
CONCLUSION : un stout assurément de grande recette, mais cette valse
hésitation entre les abv lui fait perdre un rien de crédibilité en " overall " …
Par ailleurs son entame gustative un peu trop dry lui fait perdre un point ..

Közepes, örökké tartó bézs hab, fekete szín. Csokis, kávés, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös illat. Enyhén füstös, csokis, kávés, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös ízek, vaníliás aromákkal. Közepesen testes, enyhén szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Tökéletes, mintaszerű stout.
On tap at CBC, Covent Garden on 26th July 2020. Deep sepia with pale tan foam and scant lacing. Rich roasty malt aroma. Rich and intense coffee and bitter chocolate liquid pass. A lasting coffee roast finish with just a hint of smoke. Full bodied with an engaging texture. Utterly superb.

Shared with Wim at his home. Brown colored beer with small off-white head and no carbonation and no carbonation. Malty coffee roasted mucca aroma. Full creamed palate. Finish is malty mucca bitter roasted.
Dark brown to black with a pillowy light tan head. Smells a lot of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and dried red fruits. A bit tangy, light sweet with a more pronounced roast bitterness on the back, leaving a light dried fruit impression.

Un Export Stout de couleur très noir avec une mousse crémeuse et brunâtre et avec une faible carbonatation.
On a l'impression de mettre le nez dans un paquet de café fraîchement ouvert avec des notes de chocolat.
En bouche, c'est très liquoreux. L'attaque se fait sur des notes de café et de chocolat noir. Le final est sur des notes de malt brûlé, qui restent longuement en bouche, avec une légère astringence et une amertume de café très serré.
Avis: Une bière particulièrement pour les amateurs de café très noir, ça tombe bien, j'en fais parti. :-)

Roasty and bitter with some dried stone fruit, a little liquorice and some heavy ashy cocoa flavour.
Well crafted, a little too bitter for my taste.
Bevuta in bottiglia. Tipica stout Non eccessivamente amara. Il giusto tostato. Molti profumi. Ottima.

From tap at OnTap, Bern. Nearly black dark brown color with a tan colored head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, burnt notes, cocoa, ash and burnt wood. Medium-full body with a light sweetness and a distinct medium to medium-heavy bitterness. Flavor of heavily roasted malt, chocolate, coca, ash, burnt wood, licorice and some herbal bitter hop notes. Finishes dry with a intense and lasting burnt roasty bitterness.
