Methusalem is a tradidional Dortmunder Altbier (also known as Adambier) which was especially popular in the 18th century in the area around Dortmund. It used to be one of the richest top-fermenting beers in Germany.

4.3Quite tasty beer, the flavor is weird. A little hint of sour with some smoke and juniper. A definite sipper because of the flavor, not the alcohol which would be pretty unknown really.
4.3I do not know this style at all. Is it ale or alt beer or mixed or smoked... I cannot compare it to any of my beers, coz it is first time for me drinking it. Sebastian told me again that it is an alt-bier but in traditional Dortmund style, famous in the history. So I thought again it will be regular, something like Uerige, but it is not. It is traditional Dortmund beer. And I do not know it. But generally - it is stoutish, barley-wine - ish, ipa-ish, schlenkerla-like, it is hoppy and malty, smooth and you cannot feel the alcohol at all... I cannot give minus points as to other alt beers of Freigeist, because in the other beers it is categorized - ALT BEER. And what I drink in this way is not so in this regular alt style (from my Dusseldorf experiences). But this is categorized - Dortmund ALT BEER, so it is different and no minus points will be added, coz I do not know the style and maybe this beer is closer to its Dortmund style. So, from what I tasted, I give + points to this style in general. No head, it is black.
3.4Aroma: smoke, dry fruits, sweetness. Taste: smoke, bit of sourness, intense sweetness. Beer is too sweet for me. Alc. undetectable, carbonation is very low.
3.5Bottle. Brownish amber with a two finger head. Taste was grains with a strange aftertaste still liked it.
2.6500ml bottle (One Pint, Helsinki) (5:4:5:3:9=2.6)
Heavy sweet sticky malty brew. Bready. Dark. A bit oppressive as it’s too sweet. Definitely the final beer of the evening, there’s no recovery from half a litre of this.

Tap. Very dark red to black body, higher off-white head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, fruity, plums. Taste is sourish, a bit sweet. Cherries, chocolate, smoke. Pleasant sour aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation.
Very dangerous beer, high drinkability and medium body are in opposition to high alcohol content. Very good, but fuller body should suit better.
3.8Draught at BeerGeek Bar. Brown colored. AROMA- lightly smoky, dark fruit, black currant. FLAVOR- pleasantly sour, a bit sweet, lightly tart, fruity, currants, plums. Medium bodied.
Very good.
3.9Dark brown pour with red edges and a small big bubbeling head. Apple juicy aromas and sweet fruitiness giving way for the roasty chocolate Alt body. Some warning/warming alcohols and tartness over the roast malt body. Decent choc notes pairing excellent with the tart fruits.
3.1Deep dark Amber hue with a thin ivory cap. Lightly meaty roasty nose with toasted amberish biscuity malts. Full rich flavor that’s amberish but earthy, lightly roasty smokey and lightly tart, with a full body. Interesting flavors that mix gentle smoke and gentle lactic tones. But not much in the way of being my kind of beer. Hard to explain; just kinda meh for me.
4.1500 ml. no bottling date. Mostly clear, copper-brown pour with a thin creamy film. Aroma of cocoa, fig, plum, toffee and a touch of earthy smoke. Front flavors of earthy smoked meat, lightly tart berry and toffee. Finishes with some prune, cocoa powder, sour cream, earthy smoke and cured tobacco. Medium-plus body has smooth low-medium CO2 and an easy drinking balance with a mild sour. Well hidden 10%.
3.90.5 l bottle from ’Vormann Brauerei’, 10% abv, bottled in 2014, cellared for more than two years. Clear, very dark reddish brown with a thin, dense, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, smoky, moderately roasty and a little sourish aroma of caramel, smoked ham, milk chocolate, some licorice and hints of dark fruits. Sweetish-malty, slighty sour, moderately roasty, quite smoky and a bit fruity taste of caramel, smoked ham, blackcurrant, raisins, ash, milk chocolate and some licorice, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite roasty, smoky and tartish-dry finish. Over medium-bodied, minimally astringent and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Great balance between sweet, sour and smoked flavours, doesn’t feel like 10% at all. Good!
3.6Tap@Bootleggers, Copenhagen - Dark brown to black pour with beige head. Sweet and toasted malty, big caramel malty and light yeasty notes, some dark dried fruit, slight burnt sugar, sweet malty finish.
3.6Tap @Bootleggers, Cph. Pours dark red brown with a small, staying creamy beige film head. Aroma has wet malts, rye bread, sourdough, caramel. Low carbonation, fine dry and quite oily mouthfeel. Flavour has burnt caramel, tart sourdough, vinious, a touch of strawberry, red apple. Very dry and quite bitter finish. Very different to much I’ve tried and that says a lot.
3.6Tasted from the tap on the 05/02/2017. Cloudy cola colour with a thin head. Aroma of light fruits, sweet caramel and some plums. Taste is almost the same with a cola finish. Next one please!
3.7Nice, full of maltiness, dried, fruits, some caramel, straw, breadish, dark fruits, lightly smokey. Moderately to heavy sweet. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. ABV is well hidden. In overall very rich and good brew with nice dark fruits accents.
3.6330ml generously sent by Beerhuner111 as a part of European Secret Santa swap, many thanks
Weak fruity aroma, some malt and cellar scents. Taste is red fruit sour and coffee bitter. Coffee finish, light body, low C02, watery
3.9Average frothy offwhite head. Good lacing. Fully diminishing. Clear average-density bronze-orange body. Aroma: moderate nutty malt, dark bread, leather, raisin, tart cherries, smoke, alcohol and chestnut. Initial flavor: moderate sweet and light acidic. Final flavor: light sweet moderate acidic light bitter; long duration. 140 s
3.6On draft at Churchkey. Pours a cloudy cola with a tan head. Tart berries in the nose. Cherry, tobacco and leather flavors. Interesting and a great antidote to the Bourbon County offerings that I came here for.
2.9Brown-red, beige head, aroma of malt, bread, honey, caramel, toffee, flavor of toffee, caramel, sourish, medium bodied.
3.8Draught at Bootleggers Craft Beer Bar. Dark, brown colour with a thin, lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, dark dried fruits, spicy herbal notes. A tart, fruity note with citrus. Taste is light sweet with a tart edge. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet and dry fruity with citrus and dark, over ripe fruits. Good, rather complex.
3.9500ml bottle on 7th Sep 2016: Shrewsbury beer share meeting, cheers Mat for this interesting brew. Ruby hue to the body, wispy head. The whole beer had an old feel and a good vibe: I found raisins, plums and dates in both the nose and taste: enough flavours to hide the 10% ABV. Really enjoyed my 5th of the bottle.
3.2500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Sep 16, courtesy of myself via Erzengel. Many thanks! Pours deep mahogany with a thin off-white head. Barley wine caramel on the nose. Taste is smooth, caramel, dark malts with a hidden underlying sourness. Quite a light body with some nutty old ale notes. Interesting.
3.7WoW. A session able beer at “only” 10%. Great work. But dangerous.
Deep nutty color with a off white head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium (+) body and an average carbonation. Ok balance between sourness, acidity and sweetness. Mild smoked, toffee, dried fruits and some green apples.
[Bottle from a trade with Erzengel
Smager mest over i en pale ale.
4.2A really nice sour alt. Dark amber, thin body, with a fantastic sour apple finish. Picked up a bottle at the Oedipus beer festival in 2016.
3.8Almost porter-like slightly smoky with a slight tartness on the finish. Dark Amber with a creamy full head. Slight chocolate, dried fruit notes with a bit of wonderful mustiness. Simply lovely.
