The Musketeers Antigoon (Dubbel Blond)

The Musketeers Antigoon (Dubbel Blond)

You may have taken a draw of this Belgian brew in the past, during your afternoon "client relations" meetings at Brasserie Beck. The double blonde was developed with the help of some intense Belgian brewers (as if there’s any other kind) known as the Brouwerij De Musketiers, and it actually helped Thor Cheston, Beck’s beer director, get knighted by the beer guild in Brussels.

And now, for the first time, they’re bottling it. It comes in a 750ml version—complete with corks and wire cages—and, at this very minute, it’s on a ship approaching our shores, where it’s due to arrive any day (icebergs notwithstanding) for your closer-to-home client relations. When it gets here, expect something citrusy and yeasty, but a little less potent than your typical Belgian

Commissioned for Restaurants by Robert Wiedmaier.

Previously at 6.7% ABV, since 2015 at 7%.

3.0 Bottle. Wilrijk.
3.4 Bottle @ me more and dad. My mom is very proud they found a beer that I haven't rated yet. Slightly hazy golden colour with flakes, small white head. Tastes sweet, yeasty, slightly sweaty. Tastes sweet, fruity, malts, yeasty. Your average Belgian triple. Medium body, soft carbo.
3.4 750 different label. Golden orange pour with big white fluffy head. A little too much carb, but nice and crisp, yeasty, pear apple bready flavors and a musty nose.
Vlotte drinker.
3.7 Bottle. Effervescent gold in the glass. Huge white head of excellent retention. Nose: sweet malts & candy, some cereals, spicy yeast. Full-bodied. Soft carbonation. Medium sweet taste. Spicy & fruity. Some hay. Medium bitter finish. Decently hopped. Warming. Quite good.
3.3 Clear light to medium golden color with a cream colored head. Dry hay, light floral hops, grainy cereal/bready notes. Goes in many different directions at once, has a Czech Pils or Helles flavor, but much more yeasty, a bit sweet up front with a lingering bitterness. Nice mouthfeel, crisp yet creamy. Doesn't taste like what I'd considered a typical Belgian Ale, lighter, crisper, hoppier. Leaves nice lacing rings. There's no visible date on the bottle but has the ABV as 6.8%
3.2 Bottle. Clear amber orange color With medium creamy White mostly lastning head.
3.5 Bottle from Carre four Brugge. Hazy yellow with xl eggwhite head. Yeasty, fruity, quite bitter,
3.3 33 cl bottle poured in to a Tulip. Hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Sweet aroma with fruits, yeasts, grasses and a boozy note. Taste is light bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and an average carbonation. Finishes slightly drying with yeasts and a boozy bite. A little bit disappointed - The Musketeers usually makes great beers.
3.1 Weak aroma of bread. Gentle flavored beer with breadish notes, some light spices (cloves, pepper), low bitterness. Plesant but does not set an example
3.4 330ml bottle. Minimally milky, orangey, deep golden colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Malty aroma with a bready touch and hints of almond, citrusy fruity, hoppy overtones, fruity middle layer with an apricot touch, an ammonia whiff. Taste is minimally bready malty, sweet-ish fruity, hints of peach and apricot, moderately bitter, slightly grassy and citrusy hoppy counterweight, undertones of alcohol and almond. Very nice composition, sadly not free of off-flavours.
2.9 Sweet, malty, caramel, pretty bitter. Not very interesting, but not bad either.
3.4 White frothy head left flotsam on a hazy orange coloured, still body. Yeast, orange & floral aroma. Medium bodied. Tingly on the tongue, smooth down the back. Feels soft. Yeast, sweet citrus, orange, lemon, hints of malt & a long peppery finish. Very good Blond
3.8 Bottle at home. Pours clear golden, fluffy white head. Nose is zest, caramel, light peppery spices, sweet malts. Tastes similar with bitter hoppy finish.
3.9 Antigoon doesn’t really pack any surprises, but it’s a textbook example of a Belgian Ale. It has a gold coloring and a fruity, malty aroma. It has an easygoing taste with subtle spices, subtle citrus, and yeast. The feel is wonderfully soft with medium carbonation. It’s not exactly one-of-a-kind, but it’s rather classy.
3.1 Clear yellow, white lacing foam head. Barley aroma and taste. Would say typical Belgian beer taste. OK. (Nijmegen 201704)
1.9 Double blond purchased at local supermarket ’Plus’ in Mijnsherenland . A blond which doesn’t live up to expectations. Not much in it other then realy bland sweet, some citrus far, far away and then hoppy in then finish. Expected much more from a blond. Not to be repeated.
3.7 Bottle from mr_h. Hazy yellow amber, big head. Spicy toffee aroma. Spicy caramel vanilla flavour. Yeasty vanilla afteraste. This is a different and very good Belgian ale.
2.8 Draft. A- Caramel, malty, subtle spice. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Malty, biscuit, spices, wheat. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Okay. Pretty boring and not a ton of flavor.
2.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy burnt orange color with white head. Yeasty, cracker, cardboard aromas. Yeasty, malty, spicy, bread, cardboard flavors. I thought this bottle was $1.99, but it ended up being $7.99. Big waste of money, this one is old and not great.
3.3 Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a medium white head and an aroma of yeast, dust, white grapes, orange apricot, flowers. The taste is medium to heavy sweet with a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. Pretty nice.
2.8 Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy yellow with a dense, white head. Very fresh, fruity nose, only a discreet yeastiness. Medium-bodied, getting more yeasty and phenollic in the flavor - slightly fusty even - before ending up in a rather solid bitterness. 020217
3.5 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Coop Culemborg. Slightly hazy golden with a big white head. Spicy yeasty aroma. Medium bitter with a creamy undertone. Classic Belgian blonde with a bit more hops than usual. Tasty stuff.
3.6 F: average, off-white, average retention. C: dark gold, hazy. A: malty, dusty, bread, hint of caramel, honey, floral. T: malt, orange, grassy, floral, bread, apple, grassy, hint of earthy, medium body, good carbonation, good balanced and fresh tasty, 0,33l bottle from Delhaize in Antwerpen.
3.2 Bottle 750 ml. Pours hazy yellow with minimal white head. Aroma is of yeast, malt, cloves, bananas. Taste is moderately sweet. Not a bad Belgian Ale, but nothing ot write home about.
Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: licht zoet en droog bitterig. Mooi alternatief voor een pils.
