3.6 Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Deep amber, some copper hues, moderate to large foamy sandy head, nice lacing.   Sweet raisin and figs up front, bready, biscuity, some basement funk.   Similar on the tongue, a little syrupy, sweet, brown sugar and molasses in addition to what I noticed on the tongue.   Almost to the point of being too sweet.   Sweet without being too heavy is what saves it.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes bready, some fig/dates/raisins, with brown sugar and molasses.   Better tha most, solid but could be a bit heavier.   Still good tho.
3.7 Bottle to tulip Aroma of prune, grape, plum, caramel, yeast, some lactose. Cloudy amber with a creamy tan head. Lots of caramel, hops, lemon, alcohol, plum, and prune. This is quite sweet and quite hoppy.
3.3 The design on this is outstanding. BeerAdvent 2013 Day 15... quick, I need an excuse for saving the strongest for last other than meekness. Copper, off-white head. Nose of sweet sweet malt, alcohol tinged nasal spice. Flavour is toffee and phenol, nice balance, not complex at all but a nice drink, reminds me of Gulden Draak 9000.
3.8 330ml Flasche. Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes dunkel rötlich-braunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch alkoholisch, würzig, überreife dunkle Früchte. Geschmack sehr malzig süß, getrocknete dunkle Beeren, nussig. Den Alkohol spürt man deutlich.
3.3 Bottle from Bierkompass.de in March 2013. Hazy brownish/amber with a medium head. Aroma and taste of malt, dried fruit, yeast and some light spices. Rather sweet with a medium body. An ok beer.
3.9 Pours is cloudy amber with a small to medium tan head. Aroma is a nice balance between malt, caramel and hops. The hoppyest beer in the abt/quadruple style I have had. Very good beer that I could drink year round must try for hop lovers.
4.3 Rating #835 - December 15, 2013 - Beer 15 in the Craft Beer Advent Calendar - Dark copper pour with a bubbly tan head, decent retention.heavy on carbonation Aroma is quite fruity. Full bodied. Smooth, silky mouthfeel. Taste is ripened pears, burnt sugar, hazelnut. Extremely smooth finish and a lingering taste of sweet malt. Superb and lovely.
1.7 Advent calendar. Coriander and spice on the nose, very sweet on the tongue - super sweet. Something not right with this one - unbalanced and rough, not smooth like a quadruple should be. Fit for the pit.
3.3 Caña caña en el Lupulo 21-12-13. Una quadruple bastante interesante. Aromas dulces maltosos especiados.
3.1 Bottle 330ml (Bierkompass) Deep amber color, steady off-white head. Weak fruity-honeyish aroma. Medium to full-bodied. Sweet fruity flavors, some cellary notes and alcohol. Light hop notes in the finish. Very simple quadrupel.
3.4 Craft beer advent calendar. Pours a hazy reddish copper with a thin off white ring around the glass. Aroma is fruity, mild vinegar, dark fruits(plum, sour cherry), and toffee. Flavour is sweet dark sugars, mild sour cherries, toffee, raisins, figs, and a touch of alcohol. Very robust and doesn’t all come together perfectly but hey not the end of the world.
2.9 Clear brown pour. Aroma is sweet with vanilla, hazelnuts, dried fruits, sticky toffee pudding. Flavour has all the above. The 10% is noticeable, but not overbearing. Quite sweet, though.
3.4 Bottle, from the 2013 Craft Beer Advent Calendar, day 16 I believe? Hazy tawny amber with a thick golden head. Sweet fruit-kissed toffee, lightly estery, lots of brown sugar. Missing the complexity and nuance of the great quads, but I finished it without cringing. Not bad, but competing within a tough style category.
3.4 12oz brown bottle. Dark orange pour, hazy. Thick tan foam. Nose has cherry, raisin, other dark fruits. Taste has caramel, dark fruit, raisin. Bit of fruity booze, brown sugar, yeast and plum at the end. Medium body, medium carbonation. A bit heavy handed, but some good flavours here and there.
3.3 Amazing looking beer. Dark purplish with one finger white head. A hint of the dark fruit that a good quad has. Funny hop bitterness in the finish. Not nearly complex enough to stand up to the monks.
3.6 Pours a lightly hazy amber brown with a nice frothy and lacey off white head. Bit light for a quad... Aroma of dark dried fruits, raisins, caramel, burnt sugar, figs and light fruity esters. Taste is caramel, dark dried fruits(figs & tons raisins), burnt sugar and a nice big alcohol warmth in the finish. It’s slightly unbalanced but overall it has a ton aromas and flavor.
1.1 Advent day 15. From how many good things I had heard about this beer I really didn’t enjoy it. The 10% alcohol was very noticeable and it had no real other flavors to speak of. Very bad aftertaste. Would not reccomend.
3.3 Strangely light in color for a quad, but has nice fruity esters, lots of booze as well. Flavour is largely caramel, with some fruity dark fruits, but its pretty tame. Pretty easy to drink beer, despite alcohol being quite present. Decent beer, but this calendar sucks.
2.4 On tap @Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. Pours hazy copper with nice creamy off white head. Good head retention, some lacing. Malty, liquor, raisins, nuts aromas. Medium body, a bit watery, silky texture, average to soft carbonation. Taste is malty, liquor, ripe fruit. Some harsh alcoholic, solvent-like notes, not so well balanced nor integrated.
3.3 Bottle. Pours reddish orange. Light white head. Nose and taste of baked bread, dark fruit, yeast and caramel. Medium body.
3.6 Tap at Blind Tiger, NYC, 25/11/13. Hazed dark amber/chestnut brown with a good sized beige covering. Nose is toffee, caramelised sugars, fruit cake mix, dark fruits, steeped dates and prunes. Taste comprises dark fruits, Xmas cake, Muscavado sugars, figs, dates, raisens, fairly sweet. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, sweet fruity linger in the finish. Decent enough quad, a little too sweet but the booze was well tempered.
2.5 Advent day 14. Makes it hard to sneak ahead with 10% beers. Dark amber is still light for style. Fluffy head. Yeasty, wheat and alcohol aroma. Flavour comes in waves. Malt, alcohol and vinegar. Not up to Monk standards.
3.8 Tap. Heavy caramel and milk chocolate for the malt, moderate cooked orange for the hops, dough for the yeast, with date, brown sugar and a hint of baking spices. Head is small, frothy, off-white with a spot or two of lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, a but syrupy and a lively carbonation. Nice smooth, easy drinking Quadrupel with the perfect amount of sweetness.
3.5 Amber pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee and sugar. The flavor has some toffee, grass and sugar notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.9 P: Pours a murky amber tinted tea appearance. A quick vanishing taupe head that dwindles to a bubbly wake. S: Candy malt, syrupy dark fruits, cardboard, faint dirty pine needles, cinnamon sticks, anise, hints of ginger, cardamom, rose water and sweet dark bread. A slight tartness. T/M: Juicy dark fruit, rock candy, cigar smoke, apple peels, cranberries, bready, estery, slightly tart, floral spice and gulam jamun. Gently carbonated chewy body that finishes with a slow building dryness. Spiced rum once warmed. O: This was on point. A complex assortment blended into a brilliant concoction. The spice profile mixed with slight tartness really sets this off. I tried to take my time but it didn’t turn out as I planned. Extremely easy drinking for the ABV and as dangerous as a hollow point. Cheers!
3.1 Brownish orange body with floaties! Sour nose... Odd, somewhat of a malted gueuze. Nice mix of sweet and sour, much better than the aroma.
3.8 Whoa beer smells of sweet but sour fruit pours reddish pink almost like cider of sorts little light pink /white head very nice fig and plum possible light cherry flavour nice and packs a hell of a punch
3.2 Aroma: Quite pungent; really can smell this one a few feet away. Classic fruity esters for a quad- fig, plum, dark cherry but also has some spicy pumpernickel and rich caramel. Hits all the notes a quad should. Appearance: A little lighter than other quads; I’d describe the color as a hazy dark copper. The head is a bit disappointing; initially pours to about a inch thick (bone coloured), but settled down significantly within a few moments. Flavor: Caramel forward and certainly sweet; fruits are a bit muted but present (as is the pumpernickel); the sweetness backs off a bit but comes back for more toward the finish. Does not dry out as well as the best quads. Palate: Full body, thick texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: In need of some refinement, but the bones are there.
4.4 Supremely cloudy, with lots of sediment floating inside it, like water out of the hose. Finger of puffy head. Either glowing orange or rose-red depending on the light. The Belgian funk in the nose; severely sweet, sour, tart and flowery. The sweet maltiness of spent grains. Cherries, apple skins, a touch of plum. The tartness really kicks in as it decants. A malty flavor, sweet candi sugars. There is some brett funk, but it’s not cloying or overwhelming. Just a hint of musty basement blanket. Mint jelly. Grainy and sweet and excellent. (Note: after about 18 months of aging, it takes on a tawny port complexion.) The feel is a little mineral-like on the tongue. Thick, somewhat buttery on the outside, but also coarse. This beer is *absolutely* my style.
3.0 Clear reddish dark copper pour with a thin, soapy off white head. Aroma is caramel, tart wheat, under ripe dark fruit and a light funky tartness. Flavor is caramel, tons of raw yeast, light medicinal note, bread, sharp fruity esters and some sweet cereal malts. Medium to heavy body, with a light, but sharp and very blanketing carbonation. Decent I suppose, but one of the poorer attempts at a Quad that I have tried. It got better as it went, the first pour was like drinking the sediment from the bottom of the fermenter where a quad was aged.
