3.0 Pours dark with a thick head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma had notes of chocolate, malt and dark fruit. Taste has elements of cherry, coffee, and chocolate. Palate is complex, bitterness complements the various elements of dark fruits and coffee/chocolate that are contained within this beer. Interesting take on an ale, I imagine it would be difficult to have more than one of these at a time.
3.4 Bottle from Village Beer Merchant. Mahogany. Bread, toffee, caramel, a bit nutty. Creamy, soft.
2.8 4/20/2018 (16 fl oz can): Brown sugar and malt aroma; deep amber color, minimal off-white crown; malty, hard candy, on the sweeter side, tea, mild earthy-herbal hoppiness, alcohol mostly hidden; medium body, smooth, slick; solid AMBER alert, but definitely NOT a "Rugged Brown Ale."
3.2 DATE: January 13, 2018... OCCASION: home from the after-Christmas party at Sara and Brett's... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... pours a dark brown amber body with confident bubbles rushing upward... the head is a half-finger, off-white and razor-thin... strong pine cone aroma, with tea, faint cinnamon, toasted malts, and some earthy tones... smells hearty, like a good accompaniment to a fire... sips with a mild-mannered, medium-bodied constitution... textured from start to finish, with a syrupy, lingering finish... a hoppy, sweet, strong profile that defies its ABV... the toasted malts actually yield to cherries, light almonds and tree nuts, a bit of cough syrup, and the hops promised in its aroma... tough to reconcile its weight, size and flavor--not offish, but also not as welcoming as others in its style... a supped-up brown--punchy and demanding--but the flavor muddles enough to cause confusion... I enjoyed the initial impression, but the beer wears on me as the glass drains...
3.2 Can. Pours a tea amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted and caramel malts, mixed nuts, and dried leaves. The flavor is the same. Light-bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a smooth, earthy, sweet mouthfeel. Drinks more like a 5.5% brown ale than a 7.4% strong ale.
3.4 Can from Brewfest Bev. Brown with small tan head. Roasted woody aroma with caramel cola and booze. Medium heavy sweet burnt brown sugar caramel maple syrup and fruit syrup and nuts with medium woody herbal ashy slightly medicinal bitterness. Medium-heavy body medium-low carbo. Pretty close to cloying but the unpleasant long herbal bitterness balances it. Need to give it time to warm up. Yeah, unpleasant. Might have been the rage in 1995.
3.6 12-ounce bottle pours cloudy amber-brown with no head or lacing. Aroma: raisins, brown sugar -- both faint. Flavor: the above, yet more noticeable; with brown bread and lots of nuttiness. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, slight slick, yet with a dry finish.
3.0 Draft at Tuckerman's Tavern in Intervale, NH. Mislabeled on the menu as a brown ale. Clear mahogany color with an off-white head and fair retention. Looks and tastes like a strong amber ale. Okay.
3.3 12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden amber to brown. Small tan head. Aroma is roasted, breadish and dark malty. Sweet, caramelish and toasted malty. Sweet and ,lingering caramelish finish.
2.7 6-pk at Stiffler’s. Lively carbonation and a bit of sweet nuttiness come through. Apart from that forgettable on the whole; bit of light wheat or corn, sugary and dark bread. Thin body. Could drink a bunch but eh.
2.9 Draft at Macs Tavern in Philly. Clear very dark brown amber pour. Not much head or lace. Modestly hoppy Brown Ale. Not much aroma. Tastes of browned citrus rinds, damp cocoa, cola, sassafras and melon. Semi-glossy finish. Meh.
2.6 Bottle from Bing. Lots of malt with some bitterness. Surprisingly smooth. Nice.
2.9 12 oz bottle in a mixed pick at Smugglers Notch. Clear copper with a tight and small tan head. Roasted barley, toast crust, vaguely fruity, slightly vinous, a faint spiciness, lightly sweet, low bitterness, medium body, fine carbonation, sweet treacle finish. Ok.
3.1 APPEARANCE- light brown with red tones. Great ’fluffy’ head. NOSE- slightly hoppy in an earthy (not resin or fruit/floral) way. FLAVOR- little bit of hop in the brginning, giving way to great malty flavors and carmel notes. Very thin body. NOTES- billed as a hoppy brown, I think it meets that well.
4.7 It’s have a high alcohol content and very smooth. A non IPA taste. Not a huge head which I like. I read the reviews but I really like it. I’d like to try the other offers of SHED brewery.
2.4 Tap at Inn. Appearance like Coke, aroma a little Coke-ish, tastes similar to Coke. Perception possibly affected by the fact that I drank this in the same sitting as Heady Topper so it just seems like Coke. Sorry! Really, Coke is good stuff.
3.1 Sample @ PGH Beerfest. Pours brown with a thin head. Nice nutty and malty aroma. Taste is pretty enjoyable with roasted nut and malt flavors. OK but not the best one out there.
4.1 Small is nutty deep and robust. Hints of wood in there as well. Rich brown color. Nutty taste with nice malt profile finish. Taste could linger on tougue all day and wouldn’t complain. Has the potential to be one of the best brown ales. Nice brew.
3.2 Tap at Reservoir, Waterbury. ABV 7.0%. Colour is clear reddish copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Dry fruits, sweetness and malts. Simple.
4.0 Pours brown with a slightly reddish tint, with minimal, but lacy white head. Aromas are malty sweet caramel and mild nuttiness. Flavor is similar - sweet and bready qualities. Finish is clean and fairly dry. Pretty decent stuff.
3.3 Coffee notes dominate, some molasses and a bit of brown sugar as well. A bit of nuttiness. Kinda like a cross between a brown ale and a porter. Can’t decide if I like this one or not.
2.9 This poured a lighter brown color with an off white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts and dark fruit. Flavor similar, sweet, drops off quickly.
3.4 Amber color. Aroma is mild caramel malt. Flavor is light, a little sweet and malty.
3.3 Bottled. A red-brown beer with a huge yellowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, brewmash, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, bread, and fruit, leading to a dry finish.
3.4 Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of cocoa and caramel. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa and caramel with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.
3.1 Bottle - 12oz. Hazy copper body with a thin, off-white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with caramel and woody hints. Its relatively robust malty/hoppy taste carries woody, brown sugar, and some fruity notes. Ends with a moderately warming, bittersweet finish. Not bad.
3.0 Malty aroma with toast and nuts. Nice brown ale body with some fruits along with nuts and malt. Good lingering finish. Good full bodied brown.
2.6 Very dark color, almost black. Smells of dark malt and dark fruit that I can’t identify. Heavy, somewhat creamy body. Taste is sweet, a little toffee and charamel.
2.6 ブラウンエール 酸味が強い、あまめ
3.0 Pours a dark amber from the tap, lots of malty sweetness, caramel nose, a little strong alcohol. Good beer.
