Thiriez L'Ambrée d'Esquelbecq

Thiriez L'Ambrée d'Esquelbecq

Bottle: Unfiltered.

The first Christmas beer produced by Thiriez since 1997. Fewer hops than the Blonde; lightly toasted malts for color, and a hint of spice.

2.8 A: Caramel brown with a medium off-white head. N: Medium roast malts and caramel. T: Quite malty. Some spice in the background. P: Thin O: Not bad, but not memorable.
3.7 On tap at York River Landing. Delicious and simple. This showcases the malt profile -- some bread, cereal, and toast, as well as a nice light caramel sweetness -- with a slightly peppery yeast kick. Good and easy drinking.
2.4 24/IX/16 - on tap @ Borefts Bier Festival - BB: n/a (2016-1181) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing today’s beers! Clear amber beer, creamy off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very malty, some caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter, some overripe fruits, unpleasant bitterness, chemical touch. Aftertaste: bit sourish, dirty bitterness, don’t like.
2.9 Donker amberkleurig bier met beige schuim. Geur: moutzoetig, karamel. Smaak: licht zoet, mout, kandij. Lichte koolzuurprikkel. Smaakt eigenlijk als een zoeter tafelbier.
3.6 Tap I believe at Borefts 2016 - Dag 1. Bref: dry autumn leaf caramels and dried stonefruit frame a spicy sessioner between bière de garde, maltier saison and toasty English bitter. Earthy aromas and something like curry or curcuma abound in malt, hop and yeast profile. Will revisit in a saison tasting.
3.2 A nice amber beer. Toasted malt. Some hints of caramel. Has a balanced sweetness.
2.8 Tap. Clear copper color with tan head. Aroma is earthy hops, a bit bubblegum. Taste is spicy, earthy, bubblegum. Low carbonation. Ok.
3.0 Keg at at borefts.. Dark copper... Small tan head... Soft sweet bready fruit nose... Soft toffee fruit malts
3.3 330ml bottle bought @Johnny’s Off License (Rome). Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, brown sugar, light roasted notes and ripe fruit. Flavour is unbalanced, very sweet and malty. Medium body, light carbonation. Ok.
3.0 Uit de fles geschonken. Bruin troebel bier. Aroma van mout en gist. Smaak van gebrande mout, caramel, licht bitter, beetje waterig. Niets bijzonders dus.
3.3 Cloudy dark amber with decent white head. Sour aroma with some metallic notes. Sweet fruit and caramel taste. Enjoyable fruit beer with nice balance.
3.3 33cl bottle, pours a cloudy amber with a slight off-white foamy head. Faint aroma of light malts. Taste is slightly spicy, mostly malts, toast/toffee notes. Light body, somewhat watery, light to medium carbonation.
3.0 33cl bottle. Amber, average head. Nutty, malty, caramel, spicy. Medium sweet, drier finish. Average carbonation, medium bodied. Overall a normal bière de garde.
3.3 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 24C - amber). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 496. AROMA: medium-low malty notes with a toasty quality. faint esters. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: dark amber color with a rubi tint and clear. large light tanned head with medium-low retetion. TASTE: medium-low malt flavor with toasty notes and faint toffee. medium-low to low bitterness to balance malt with an almost dry finish. esters imperceptible. PALATE: medium-light to light body with medium-high carbonation. faint alcohol warmth. OVERALL: an amber biere de garde not much complex.
3.1 330ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, Dec 15, courtesy of Paolo. Many thanks! Pours hazy amber. Earthy aroma. Taste is a straightforward biere de garde, a little unexciting but bearing some nutty warmth and a smooth mouthfeel. Nice enough, would probably enjoy more having a full bottle to myself in a nice rural Flanders Estaminet.
3.5 Shared bottle at the December 2015 Shrewsbury Beer Share Group meeting: cheers Mat for this and others! Loved the aroma of this amber brew, sadly the taste wasn’t as intense or interesting as the nose. Spicy, malty and fruity smell, taste just malty to me: where did all the exciting esters my nasal organ found disappear too? Maybe a full bottle rather than a 5th might have helped answer that question.
3.1 Keg at mother Kelly’s, London. It pours a clean amber color with a small white head. Aroma is biscuity and sweet with honey mixed nuts roasted malts and bubble gum. Taste has some nts biscuit booze and yeast. Medium bodied woith ok carbonation. Overall, not my genre
2.4 Cloudy amber body, no head. Aroma of yeast, caramel malt and biscuit, hoppy grass. Flavours of caramel, citrus, grass. Slightly bitter. Slightly sweet and bitter finish.
3.0 Bottle, pours dark brown, small tan head. Aroma is medium malty, light roast, some dark fruits. Sweet, palate thins out.
3.5 Bottle, 33cL. Home. A dark brown orange opaque hazy beer withn a medium off-white head ; medium retention. Roast, caramel, light biscuit, herb, red berries. Light sweet, light dry bitter refreshing ; acid note. Light to medium body, average texture, light oily, average carbonation, dry fruity finish. Overall, enjoyable fruity bittersweet refreshing light beer ; nice balance.
3.3 Appearance: clear medium amber with one finger of fluffy ivory head, good retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: somewhat muted, caramel/toffee malt, dark fruit, spices, light earthy funk. (6/10) Taste: moderately strong sweet, mild bitter, light tart. (6/10) Medium body tending a little to the watery, lively carbonation, off-dry finish. (4/5) Not bad, but not as well done as their Étoile du Nord. (Though, to be fair, I enjoy saisons much more than ambers, so personal preference is probably a factor there.) The lighter, somewhat watery body and lively carbonation are a bit at odds with the darker malt sweetness and winter spices. They call this a "Bière de Garde," but the labels of “Winter Warmer,” Christmas Beer,” or just plain “Amber” would probably all work just as well. (13/20)
3.4 Clear amber orange color with big head. Aroma is fruity, malt. Flavor is spices, malt, yeast. Not bad.
3.5 Bouteille 33cl, lot#503, BB 12/2016.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy amber colour. Aroma malty, fruity - plums, apricot, mollasses. Some alcohol. Taste caramel, fruity, quite empty. Very light bitterness. Quite high carbonation. Quite good.
3.1 From 0,75l bottle, Pours: deep cloudy amber liquid, medium frothy tan head, Aroma: malty, caramel, bready, Taste: medium sweet, light bitter, light to medium sour, malty, bready, citrus, Palate: light body, average carbonation, slick mouthfeel, watery, Overall: drinkable, but too watery, too simple, not my favorite.
3.4 Bottle. Red amber color with medium white head. Malty aroma with caramel. Sweet fruity taste, caramel.
3.7 Pours dark orange with an off white head which dissipates quickly. Nose is subtle cherry vanilla with a little hop. Taste is sweet malt with vanilla and smooth Munich caramel. Lovely mouthfeel. No overpowering yeast, slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
4.0 Pours pretty amber with orange highlights, slightly hazy from effervescence and yeast, compact off-white head. Nose is sour cherries, funk, clover, honey. The first sip, though, is maple, followed by walnuts, more funk, tart raspberries, leather, soil, more honey and a hint of hot spice. Nice refreshing finish, though the body is thinner than it could be. Like dropping in at a farmhouse in late afternoon before continuing on.
3.1 330ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours hazy amber with an off white head. Aroma of mal, caramel and biscuit. Very sweet.
