Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper

Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper

A robust porter, dark brown in color and full-bodied with a malty sweet taste. Deep roasted, yet silky-smooth! Two types of roasted malts, including deep-roasted chocolate malt are used to give this porter a rich, chocolately taste.

3.4 Draught @ Albion. Clear dark brown with foamy tan head, faint mocha aroma, medium carbonation, mocha taste with little bitterness, thin body, medium mocha finish. Easy to drink, not too intense.
3.5 From a 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of light roast coffee and grain. Flavors chocolate and vanilla. Smooth roast finish.
3.4 Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malt and chocolate. Moderately bitter roasted malt flavor with some chocolate and caramel. Medium body with average carbonation.
3.3 Bottle in hotel room Orlando 2016... Dark brown black... Thin white lacing.... Soft sweet toffee.. Big sweet malts nose... Soft sweet toffee fruit.. Dark malts.. Sweet caramel toffee fruits malts
3.2 Tap at Owl Farm, New York. Colour is almost black with slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Chocolate, some coffee and roasted malts. Nothing special.
2.7 Pours a clear brown. Roasted malt nose. Roasted malt flavors. Unoffensive and unremarkable.

3.6 malty and roasty and beery. body on the thinner side with a bit of grain. refreshing and tasty with caramel like flavor and cocoa. nice balance but still malty. some sweetness. one to keep coming back to. all kidding aside could use a better name.
3.6 Pours black with a thin tan head. Heavy body but not oily. Nice roasted nuts and malts aroma. Very smooth with descent lingering flavor. It feels more like a stout. Flavor is good but somewhat one dimensional. It didn’t matter to me since it was a good roasted malt flavor and not too much on the coffee side. Flavor lingered in the mouth but didn’t fill up the cheeks like a good stout, probably since it is a little lower in alcohol. No harshness or bitterness. Smooth finish. Really enjoyed this. I tried numerous Porters and Stouts and have only found a few that I really liked and this was one of them. A little more variety with the flavor would make it even better.
3.8 A black pour that is dark brown around the edges with an off-white head. The aroma has dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a hint of vanilla. It has a medium body with creamy texture and average carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a semi-dry, roasted finish.
3.9 1st bottle from my stateside run - pours a deep opaque black with a 1 finger tan cap. Thick oily body - aroma is a wonderful amalgam of malts - coffee, cocoa, roast, nutty - with a small flare of fruit. Rich mouthfeel, deeply flavorful with chewy bundt cake malts in front, light hazel nut tones, long wet finish with just a hint of fruit. F’n glorious brew but what is it? It’s not a porter - maybe a thick stout with brown ale yeast - dunno, who cares It drinks well.
4.0 12oz bottle. Pours a deep black with a one finger, tan head that sticks to the glass nicely. Aroma is pleasing with nice notes of dark chocolate, peanut shells, roasted malts, slight coffee, dark caramel, toffee, and a hint of floral hops. Taste is a balanced bitter. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, peanut shells, caramel, slight dark fruits, and as odd as it seems, banana at the end. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Creamy but not syrupy in the mouth with a soft, round carbonation and a dry finish. Overall a great porter. Dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, bread, and dark fruits.
3.0 Aroma is mostly malts. Taste is primarily roasted nuts and malts. Overall not the best porter, but not bad.
3.2 Approximately ½ of a 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 5-23-15. Fishy, yeasty aroma with scents of uncooked bread dough and roast. Pours dark brown with an amber hue and a moderate amount of beige head. Produces decent lacing. Simple, burnt malt flavor. Medium body. Ordinary palate effects. Overall, this is an adequately pleasant, old-fashioned craft beer. I can see this being the award winner that it was in the early ‘00s, but it fails to impress today.
3.9 Aromas of chocolate and coffee with a little malt. Taste of coffee and chocolate with a little smokiness. Nice porter. Thin mouth feel.
3.2 Draft at Mudville 9 NYC . Black body with roasted chocolate malts. Sweet paired with burnt malts. Lighter the it looks
3.6 Pours an almost opaque black with brown-red highlights. Light brown head is fairly dense and persists well. Aroma is dominated by dark and roasty malts, coffee, chocolate, a tiny amount of charcoal, and a barely perceptible alcoholic note. Flavor is roasty in character with a moderate bitterness; the initial impression of espresso gives way nicely to a long chocolate-toffee finish. I’d be hard pressed to find much evidence of hops in either the aroma or the flavor. Overall, smooth and fairly rich, with low astringency.
3.7 Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste is chocolate, coffee, burnt malts, very drinkable!
4.6 I love this beer..one of my favorite local breweries flagship beers. Its a staple in my fridge
4.0 Pours a black body with a thin milk chocolate head. Lacing is pretty good and head retention is above average. Smells of roasted chocolate malts and slight metal. Also getting some smoked malt with bakers chocolate. Not much hops or alcohol is detected. Taste is of a classic rich porter. Lots of sweet malt paired with burnt malts also. Bits of chocolate and coffee are in the mix. Very slight alcohol detected, not much hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Head added slightly is consistency. Overall this was a solid beer. No flaws to it but also nothing outstanding about it. This beer was on my want list for years, glad I got to try it, another tasty beer from Thirsty Dog.
3.6 On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is initially a strong raisin and milk chocolate blend with a light, smokey touch. Later on there’s some apple and plum with a nutty coffee aroma. It pours a deep, dark, and clear mahogany color with a medium, soapy brown ring and a light lace. There’s lots of fuzzy carbonation to the slick and smooth beer. The medium-full body contains notes of chocolate, raisin, and plum with a smoke and ash finish. The smokiness lingers lightly with an astringent touch.
3.7 From bottle. Deep dark brown with a little bit of dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, rum, and coffee. Taste is cocoa nibs, light smoke, coffee, and some hints of bourbon. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel.
3.8 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Dark malt and some bitter dark chocolate in the taste and aroma. Decent porter and winner of best name and slogan. "So many legs, so little time".
4.0 Very enjoyable porter. Looks great in a shaker mug with a dark pour and nice light forming head. Great aroma of malt and good tasting with a finish of chocolate. Good beer.
3.4 Pours dark brown in color with a light tan head. Decent lacing. Aroma is cocoa and malt. Taste is of toasted chocolate malts and a hint of toffee.
3.5 Pours a farm brown with a latte colored lacing. Notes of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Somewhat acidic.
3.5 $9.99 for the 6pack purchased at Kroger, the High St. location (Columbus). Consumed with good friends around a campfire, our reserved site on Hocking Hills State Park land. To pint (or large Styrofoam cup - whichever), it pours a syrupy mauve-tinted dark brown, with which a bubbly beige head 1½ fingers in length stood. Aromas of cigar ash, pine cones, autumnal leaves, sawdust, charcoal, sweat, unripe blueberries, and leather. Tastes the same with the addition of stale coffee, cashew butter, and dried sage. Chocolate malt experienced by swallow, alongside minerals, black licorice, and London yeast. Decent mouthfeel - one sip, and it was gone - or at least that’s how it felt. Slightly watery, though that didn’t get in the way of me enjoying it. Not fantastic, but would have again. Surprised I haven’t had this before.
3.2 Pours black with a foamy, beige head. Nose is roasted grains with a hint of coffee. Taste is well-balanced, slightly to the sweet side. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Good solid brew.
3.9 From a bottle. Pours almost black with a thick beige head. Really nice lacing. Aromas of chocolate malt, gypsum, butterscotch, vanilla and stone fruits. Flavors of plum, chocolate, vanilla, and bready notes. Creamy mouthfeel. Very little hop character, but this beer is well balanced and delicious.
3.5 Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, black-brown with an enormous light tan head and good lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, cola, roasted malt and plums. Taste of sweet dark fruit, milk chocolate and roasted malt. Medium body and medium/high carbonation.
