3.6 Bottle from Beers of the World. Pours black with a nice tan head. Big aroma of toasted malt and caramel.
4.5 Black color. Big , tan head . Coffee, roasted malt , dark fruits and smoke in aroma. Same notes in flavor. Silky mouthfeel. Lingering, roasted bitterness.
4.3 Ekstrakt: 25% wag. Dodatkowo intensywnie czekoladowe. Cała masa skojarzeń z tortem czekoladowym, bombonierką, pralinkami belgijskimi. Duża doza kakao i kruchych wafelków kakaowych. Orzechy migdałowe w kontrze i lekki karmel. Słodycz równoważy stonowana paloność. Goryczka średniej siły, finisz półsłodki, czekoladowo-orzechowy. Tekstura raczej umiarkowana, niż oleista. Odczucie w ustach pełne, ale zarazem niesamowita lekkość degustacji. 9,5% alkoholu, a pije piwo łyk za łykiem, praktycznie bez dłuższych przerw. Wysycenie ciut za wysokie. Niskie do średniego. Cholernie smaczne! Wysycenie: Niskie / Średnie. Etykieta: Rewelacyjna!
3.3 Very chocolatey malt smells. Pours black brown with a thin tan head. Some lacing. Sweet tastes of coffee with some alcohol in the short finish. Pretty good but not the best Imperial I’ve had.
4.0 Apperance: Dark, inpenetrable brown (almost black) body with a thick, gorgeous, cascading head. Smell: A bit shy at first, but an aroma of chocolate with a whiff of brown sugar. Taste: Wow, very silky and smooth, unabrassive. Malty with a touch of bitterness and some toffee in there. Mouthfeel: Roasted tones with caramel. Smoothness prevails, great balance. There’s some coffee in there minus the coarseness.
4.1 black; very nice, chocolaty, roasted malt aroma; great roasted malt flavor with chocolate notes and hints of coffee; really smooth for such a high gravity beer; bitter chocolate in the finish
4.1 Bottle in Seattle. Rainy night tasting. Huge thanks to Chris for sending these to me awhile ago. Tasted side by side with the Bourbon version. Thin foam, dark red-brown edge, letting some light through. Deep chalky, bitter chocolate aroma. Lightest edge of sweetness. Smooth sip, bitter coffee and bitter chocolate. Roast malts, dry and toasty. There is a sweet element but it is dominantly bitter and roast. A little thin at times. But body is lovely crushed, freshly roasted coffee beans. Quite nice and a modestly unique modern imperial stout (that harkens back to older times). I really like it.
3.9 Bottle, thanks luttonm! Dark brown color with small tan head. Aroma is ashes, coffee, earthy, roasted malts, liquorice. Taste is the same flavours, but quite heavy on the liquorice. Dry and bitter roasted finish. Still full-bodied. Very well-made, though I’m not the biggest fan of liquorice in beers.
3.7 10 ounce draft at Winking Lizard Pennisula, Ohio. Smell the chocolate, sweet coffee, and plum. Lightly carbonated. smooth on the palate. Overall just a wonderful Stout.
3.4 malty, chocolately aromas. pitch black in color with decent brown head. fully body. taste is mostly of roasted barley and coffee, dark chocolate plays a lesser role in flavor.
4.1 With Audrie and Marissa, bottle at Big Bear, Coral Springs, pours a dark rich black pour with an ephemeral beige head. Nose is roasted malt, Java, burnt wood, black licorice. Taste is sweet bitter chocolate with roasted deep malt . Finishes sweetly on the same tasting notes with a rich chocolate dessert ending ! Nice !! Quaff Score 9 / 10
3.5 Bottle, because this is a shelfy in my new neighborhood. Thick sexy black pour with creamy khaki head, decent retention, great lacing. Aroma: Plenty of roast coffee, backed by marshmallow, caramel, and a hint of dark fruit. Smells very nice - even with the implied marshmallow sweetness, my expectation is that this leans to the bitter roast side. Taste is ... disappointing. Lots of roast, bitter coffee, and metal, like sucking on a copper penny that I’d dropped into a can of Folgers and then for some reason put into my mouth. If that’s your thing, there’s no judgment here, but I’m just not into it. Palate: chalky texture, full body. Lasting, lingering rusty metal finish. Overall: I have a few more bottles in this 4-pack, so maybe my impressions will change over the rest of this. As it is, maybe I’m a victim of my own high expectations for this one.
3.9 Bottle shared by Brian. Pours a dark opaque black with a layer of dark tan head. Aroma and taste of coffee, super roasted malts.
3.3 Bottle. Very dark brown, almost black. With a small tan head. Aroma is rotated grains and coffee. Taste is burnt toast and dark coffee with a bitter finish.
4.0 Pours a jet black. Aromas of espresso/chocolate and roasted malts. Taste dark roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate malt with a nice bitter bite.
4.2 Pours an opaque dark, dark brown almost black color like oil with similar viscosity and khaki colored head. Roasted malts, toast, and dark chocolate on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with dark chocolate and roastiness.
4.0 12oz bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach/Stuart at cellar temperature, shared with bananabi11. Black pour with a brown head. Aroma has big chocolate, caramel, molasses and roast. Taste is all chocolate, roast, molasses and caramel. Thick, bittersweet and strong. Lowly carbonated, body is full and the blend is well done. Some alcohol presence. Finishes bittersweet and thick. Excellent, thick "imperial" stout. 14.8
3.5 Aroma chocolate, roasty, Appearance black, tan foam, brown foam, Taste medium sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate medium body, Overall a very smooth chocolate and roasty beer that hides the alcohol very well. I would suggest this beer to a friend.
4.1 Dark black. Medium khaki head. Tasted side by side with BA version. Thick and chewy. Roasted. Perfectly, and I mean perfectly cooked toast. Lasting roastiness. Enjoyed after running my 5th marathon.
4.1 12 oz bottle into a Belgian snifter. Poured with a short, tan head atop a black body. Spots of sticky lacing.get left on the glass. Aroma: medium-strong with lots of roasted dark malts, hints of molasses, caramel, vanilla, ripe dark fruits, brown sugar and chocolate. Flavor: strong, lightly sweet with a mildly bitter aftertaste. Hints of brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, ripe dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate and licorice. Tasty!. Feel: Full bodied; high viscosity; low carbonation; mild but lingering alcohol heat in the finish. Overall: an excellent Imperial stout, I prefer this to the Founders Imperial Stout I had (again) just two days ago.
3.9 355 ml bottle. Pours black color with a small beige head. Peaty aroma, yeast, dark malts, ashy malt notes, some chocolate and coffee. wood and coffee. Flavor is mildly bitter malty, chocolaty, some wooden notes, coffee. Very nice and balanced, not too aggressive. 4325
3.9 355ml bottle from New York. Vertical with Bourbon version. Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, coffee, chocolate and hints of hops. Taste is stingy roasty with some licorice, chocolate and hints of coffee. Finish is roasty with hints of licorice, chocolate and coffee. Okay, feels more balanced than the bourbon version.
3.4 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a small head. Aroma of rich roastiness, salty licorice, soy sauce and some herbal notes. Flavour of roasted malts, metallic notes, salty licorice, soy sauce and bread. Some spiciness. Medium bodied. Very dry mouthfeel.
4.0 Shared at the StlBrews meeting from a bomber bottle into a nonic half-pint glass. It poured opaque black with tan foam, lasting with lace. Malty, toasty, nutty, very roasty, boozy, with a firm hop bitterness. Some citrusy hop flavour but aroma was mainly burnt grain. Simultaneously mellow and tart. Medium body and carbonation. Well-rounded mouthfeel, some gritty chalk and ash, mineral water essence. Lingering toasty, bittersweet aftertastes. Very good, I can see why it’s an award-winner.
4.0 Almost black beer with a brown head. Aromas of roasted coffee and oats. Tastes of dark licorice, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and oat. Oily and creamy mouth feel. Very easy to drink with a bittersweet, lactic finish. Delicious.
4.0 Bottle@home, Whole Foods, Cleveland, USA. Strong aroma with licorice and bourbon. Alcohol clearly at background. Pitch black color with light/medium beige head. Strong, averagely balanced taste with plum, licorice and hint of sweet malts. Alcohol clearly in the background. Wide taste spectrum with long aftertaste with licorice. Medium/light body with light/medium carbonation. Overall, slightly messy, more sweet than malty. Seductive Siberian Night.
4.2 12oz bottle. Pour is not as dark as one would imagine. Opaque black with brown tints. Head is rather thin. Heavy aromas of cocoa, bakers chocolate and roast everything, Malts, nuts, coffee, caramel. Finish is a little dry with slight bitterness. 9.7%abv is well balanced with all the flavors of this full bodied beer. Not much to complain about or improve on. Wish I had picked up a second one.
3.6 Thick bodied; milkshake feel in the mouth. Nice chocolate taste. Enjoyable, would be great with ice cream
4.1 Pours black with minimal tan head. Aromas are heavy roast, baker’s chocolate. Flavors follow similarly. Not much sweetness to this one, it’s fairly dry. Full of roast, with a dry coffee-like finish, it’s good for the style. Alcohol is very well hidden.
3.7 Bottle. Deep stouty brownish-black pour, opaque with a massive espresso colored froth, ridiculous retention and lace. Nose is dark roasted barley, coffee, cocoa, hazelnuts, malts. Mouth is big and creamy, bittersweet, coffee, roast, nutty, bakers chocolate, some soot near the finish. Goes down dangerously easy for a 9.7%. Woof.
