2.8Mörkt brun öl med ett lättare beige skum. Doften är ordentligt söt med malt och karamell. I smaken tillkommer även vissa rostade noter, choklad och lite rostade nötter.
3.2Upon a second try (sober try) not as good. Original rating was a 4.2
Good solid, dark, malty beer. Strong chocolate flavor, not overpowering. Pours a very dark color with a hint of crimson. This beer doesn’t do anything extraordinary, but that is what makes it such a great beer.
3.512 oz bottle. Pours an extremely deep crimson with a tan head. Nice fruity aroma, cherry and plum, a bit of breadiness. Toasty malt flavor, smoky and light molasses, hint of dark fruit. Frankly I think this is a pretty nice one.
3.7Dark brown pour. Good taste and mouth feel. Solid beer but nothing outside ordinary.....
3.2A: Malty. creamy. Some sweet roasted notes.
A: Looks ok. Color is a thin brown. Head retention is alright, looks creamy.
T: Like every Thomas Creek beer: very malty. Subtle hints of roastiness. A nice sweetness. Decently balanced but the malt really takes over. I guess for a lager it’s pretty balanced. Drinks more like a bock than a dopplebock.
P: Lighter on the palate. Smooth and creamy but malt and carbonation cuts through a little bit too much.
Overall, this tasted like a thomas creek beer: super malty. There are hints of roastiness but it doesn’t bring anything special. A good beer, but nothing great.
2.8Light roasted smell...taste is similar...smooth but a bit too watery...slightly sweet...good
3.5Creamy flavor with coffee and chocolate
2.8Dark brown pour with a small bubbled tan head. Rich aroma sweet and a tiny touch smoky. Light chocolate and syrupy aromas mixed with a light smokey/roasty note and some earthy nuttiness. Average palate, a bit over carbonated and thin for the style. Flavor is not as good as the aroma an adjunct malt flavor, weak syrups a bit wattery chocolate and light coffee in the finish but not in a good way more like cheap coffee grounds left lingering. Sadly disappointing.
3.4Pours deep mahogany with a thick and fluffy tan head. Aroma very punchy and a bit sour with a touch of roasted nut and chocolate. Taste is earthy roast malt, sour bread, chocolate, maybe some caramel. Plenty of surface flavor, but less depth - though richer in flavor as it warms. Quite a nice doppelbock - a style I tend to enjoy.
3.8Bottle. Moderate to heavy dark bread, cereal and milk chocolate, light cooked orange for the hops, moderate dough and broth for the yeast, with dried fig and toffee. Head is average size, frothy, beige with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear dark mahogany. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and faintly bitter. Palate is medium, a bit chewy with a soft carbonation. Nice meaty Doppelbock with the right amount of sweetness and perfectly smooth.
3.012oz bottle. Poured a reddish brown color with an off white head. Toasted nuts, caramel, earthy, and some bread.
3.2Bottle. Aroma is nuts, toast, and caramel. Very Nice dark brown color with a thick tan foam. Taste is chocolate, toast, chocolate, and a little bit licorice. Medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Overall a decent dopplebock but not one of my favorites.
3.5Bottle @ Tre Små Rum, Gothenburg. Clear very dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 260713
3.8355 ml bottle, rated from backlog. Dark reddish brown color with beige. Aroma is fruity, raisins, caramel and roasted malt. Taste is medium dry, roasted malt, fruity hops, caramel, bready and some liquorice.
3.5good aroma that smells of coffee and chocolate. The head is medium bodied, but doesn’t cling well. The color is a dark brown with tinges of red. It has a very pleasant nutty, chocolate, coffee combination which is only slightly bitter.
3.812 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/3/2012. Pours fairly clear dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass; with moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, floral, dark bread, light roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt notes with yeast fruitiness; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, dark bread, raisin, prune, toffee, molasses, chocolate, roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, dark bread, raisin, prune, roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt flavors with a light-moderate fruitiness; with nice robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good doppelbock! Nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
3.6Very black in color with a slightly smokey and yet subtly sweet taste to it. A beer I would definitely have again.
4.7Lots of chocolate and malty flavors on this one! Good flavor, nice, tasty beer overall.
3.112oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with an off white head that is very frothy and dissipates to a thin film that laces nicely down the glass. Aroma mostly of sweet dark chocolate and some underlying earthy hops. Has an big chocolate taste that is overly sweet. Not very enjoyable. The mouthfeel is thick with moderate carbonation. The flavor does not follow through with the great setup from the appearance and aroma.
3.512oz Bottle. Thanks for sharing, Rob! Low nut and toasted cocoa aroma. Frothy and fresh. Heavy on the melanoidin dark, toasted malts. A little glassy and crystalline and not quite as smooth, silky, and creamy as I would hope for the style, but still decent and clean with quality lagering.
3.57.0 abv dark brew with bit of cocoa and rum makes piney hop character seem like licorice in the foam. mellow and a bit of fruit in banana not overdone. some roasty caramel.
3.9Bottle: (labelled as 7.0%)
Pours deep cola brown with a full, medium tan head.
Aroma of dark chocolate, roast.
Taste is melted chocolate, cream.
Slightly oily and ashy bitter finish.
Excellent flavour.
3.1Bottle at Bishop’s Arms, Stockholm, Vasagatan
Dark brown color, clean, with some amber-red reflex, and medium sized beige compact head. The aroma is quite American, the yeast produced more fruity esters than a true German Bock; there is also some caramel and light roasted malt. The mouthfeel is lean, dry, partially smooth; roasted malt and dark caramel flavor, with a trace of liquorice.
A good beer, nothing to do with Doppelbocks (lighter, with a bit too much roasted malt, and the liquorice).
2.6Bottle. Cloudy brown color, medium off white head. Aroma of smokey toffee. Taste is sweet caramel. Plain.
3.3Smells choclately. Dark like my soul. I love the toasted charcoal coffee taste. Reved my engine.
3.4Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with very little head on it. Nose is very malty with a lot of caramel malts in there. Taste is just a tad sweet and a tad roasty. Very smooth and light.
3.8Dark reddish brown with a 1" tan head. Sweet nose of caramel, cherries, raisins, overripe bananas. Crisp carbonation and medium body. Flavors are earth, vanilla. Some smoke and coffee bitterness. Overall a very good bock
3.4Draft at beer fest. Pours deep brown with a small tan head. The aroma Is big caramel and very sweet. The taste is very sweet and caramel forward with light bitter on the finish.
3.1Chewy grain and caramel aroma. Flavor is a touch of the same but a little thin for the style. This goes down easy but there is not a ton going on. Finish is slightly sweet with some red fruit flavors but again very faint.
3.5Bottle that had a different label than what is shown here on RateBeer,
the label reads 7% alc. not 6.25% alc.,
this lager had a clear dark ruby pour with dark brown at the sides of the glass, it had an initial one and a half finger light tan colored head, this beer left spots, fingers and partial rings of lacing on the sides of the glass, the bottle had no sediment,
this lager had big malt ‘melanoidin’ aromas with lots of toasted malt, faint chocolate and caramel, and a little brown sugar sweetness,
there were hints of roasted malt on the nose to,
the flavors were pretty much the same as the aromas, not as sweet as most of the Doppelbocks I have sampled,
the mouth feel was about medium, maybe a little less, there was some creaminess on the palate, and average carbonation,
a Doppelbock with a very malty nose and flavor.
