Thornbridge Eldon

Thornbridge Eldon

This beer named after The Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of The Peak District, is a smooth, roasty stout brewed with Demerara sugar and with added complexity from the addition of Bourbon soaked oak. Caramel, coffee and chocolate flavours are married with a hint of vanilla and fine Kentucky Bourbon.

3.5 Bottle from the lcbo. Black pour, medium beige head. Very roasty Aroma, lots of coffee and some soy, with a fruity, malty character. Carb is soft mouth feel is thin. There are no signs of oak really, no wood, or vanilla, maybe some slight earthiness. Finish is medium bitter with more coffee and some distinct chocolate malt.
4.0 Bottle, Ann Arbor MI via Mulmur. Oaky espresso aroma. Mild flavour. Smooth. Some chocolate and faint coffee.
3.8 Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Bottle, 33cL. 8%. Purchase ("Biermarket", Nantes, FR). Home. A sparkling black beer with a medium beige foamy head ; medium retention. Candied fruits, chocolate, roasted, prune, red berries notes, bourbon notes (at the end of the bottle). Light to medium sweet, round, quite warming, medium dry fresh bitter. Medium body, light creamy texture, soft gaseous, sweet roasted dry lasting finish. Overall, very good. Strange, first sips were a bit watery (lack of body).
3.6 Where and how: tasting, b 333 ml Aroma chocolate, toasted barley with side hop feel. Good character. 7+ Appearance : Top: medium lighter tan top, some rings on glass. Base: dark brown. Palate : medium plus bodied, average carbonation, average finish. Taste: good depth, slightly metallic, some chocolate at mid. I see a lot of Baltic Porter in here just bit more roasty. Slight cellar feel behind.
3.7 2018-03-19. Black body, nice foamy tan head. 4+ Aroma is an interesting melange of fruit, oak, dusty dark malt and light alcohol. Flavour is lightly bitter and alcoholic up front, dark malt base. Dusty malt, oak and moderate fruit touches. Average bodied palate, good carbonation, decent but feels much thinner than warranted. Decent but doesn't live up to my expectations. 7/5/7/3/14 Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.
3.7 [Bottle (330ml)] Pours a deep dark brown with a large lasting frothy light-brown head. Some lacing. Aroma (7+) of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, chocolate and a hint of dark fruit. Nice flavour (7+) of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied. Really good.
4.2 Part of the LCBO Fall 2018 Beer Program, this one made an excellent first impression, although the vanilla side of it seems to disappear as it warms up, it is one of my favourite imperial stout.
3.5 12oz bottle. Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Flavors are brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, pine, bourbon and oak with fruity and earthy notes. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, creamy texture.
3.5 Bottle shared. Opaque black pour with tenacious tan foam. Aroma is quite roasty, bourbon, bit of soy, plums, milk chocolate. Taste is sharp, boozy, acidic roasstiness , lingering fruity toffee like notes, kinda harsh. Palate is full bodied, overcarbed. Not bad, but not great either.

Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted - coffee, bread, caramel, chocolate, sweet malt. 3.7 A thin-ish but still moderately complex bitter chocolate forward stout that is rather easy drinking. Roasted malts, light bourbon and vanilla notes complete the profile.
4.1 Bottle. Black, thick and quite stable, creamy, beige head, nice lacing. Aroma malty, prunes, raisins, intense vanilla, wooden, chocolate, tobacco, cocoa. Taste very smooth, thick but thinner than expected, not very sweet, roasty. Carbonation low. Bitterness medium, short,a little roasty. Aftertaste malty, fruity, prunes, chocolate, vanilla, slightly alcoholic but in a pleasant way. Simply very good.
3.8 Bottle from Lcbo. Inky black pour. Thin cap of beige foam. Tastes of brown sugar, dried figs, wood chips, vanilla, a hint of Tennessee sour mash. Oily mouthfeel. Easy drinking dessert stout.
3.9 Barwa czarna, niska beżowa piana, elegancka, ładny lacing. W aromacie czekolada, kawa, rodzynki, wanilia, tiramisu.
3.7 BB 03-02-2018 - pours unclear brown with a very nice beige cap offering some retention and lacing. dark if not burnt caramelized maltiness, grape and raspberry juice, some wood with incoming astringency, but never really on bourbon grounds, hint of vanilla though; some coffee grind earthiness, pine bitters too. moderately low carbonation, medium body - oily; very lightly sweet tannic-spicy finish. not much roastiness but relatively complex caramels with relatively low bourbon input - nice barreling and crafting anyhow.
4.3 Bottle from Beer Hawk mixed case. This is as black as it gets with a nice, tan head. The aroma is fruity, malty and oaky. It tastes of bourbon barrels. Woody with burnt caramel and mocha. Very tasty. Another Thornbridge classic!
4.1 Deep black pour with a thick tan head. The aroma has a lot of rich chocolate, dark malt, cocoa, and a touch of figgy sweetness. There's a little bit of light bourbon and a touch of woodiness. As it warms, the soft vanilla and wood notes really rise up and enhance the flavour of the malts and roastiness. Excellent balance, great flavour integration. I really like these UK-style approaches to this style.
3.6 Aroma of coffee dominates this Stout that pours a dark black-ish colour with a frothy caramel-colored head. Vanilla sweetness on the tip of the tongue gives way to a malty-chocolatey flavour as it moves over the palette. The bourbon is noticeable on the finish especially, which contains a bit of a bite. Unfortunately, leaves a bit too much of an alcohol taste after swallow, which keeps this Stout—although still delicious—from an even higher rating.
3.5 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark slightly orangey Brown with moderate-sized light tan head. Aroma is roast, bourbon, oak and some chocolate. Flavour is roast, anise, bourbon, oak and chocolate. Gentler carbonation. Nice.
3.5 A little spice lifts this bourbon hinted stout. Smooth, not too sweet, soft brown sugar and vanilla leave a smooth finish.
3.9 Bottle, January 2017. Lots of dark chocolate, some fresh brewed coffee, a subtle oaky vanilla note, a shy herbal hint, light roast. Not too full bodied but remarkably soft mouthfeel and flavour integrity. Creamy. Superb.
2.7 11/20 quite watery and not much taste immediately but a fairly long bourbon barrel aftertaste which is pleasant. It's fine but a bit lame for an imperial stout
4.1 Bottle, bought@Voldby Købmandsgård. Pours deep opaque black with a small, staying creamy beige head. Aroma has chocolate, vanilla, oak, some licorice. Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has elegant subdued sweetness, cocoa, quite balanced vanilla, mild oak. Soft roasted, some hazelnut, licorice. Fairly soft viniousness. Very elegant, soft and super drinkable.
3.9 A touch light in body, a bit more hop flavor emphasis, and a touch of bourbon oak aging. There is chocolate implied, and also vanilla. The hops carry late as lightly grassy and minty, overall a pretty delicate package. More chocolate than demerara this one. Sleeker package, not a huge RIS but entirely worthwhile for its unique personality and delicacy. Thanks T-Bridge!
3.7 Bottled. Pours black. Tan head. Aroma is roasted malt. Soy sauce. Vanilla. Some oak chips. Chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate. Again some soy sauce. Rather bitter. Oaky flavor too. Not bad. Not good either.
3.5 Bottle at Thornbridge, 's Hertogenbosch. Aroma is pretty strong liquorice with chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, notes of oak, caramel, and cane sugar. Flavour is rather sweet with a nicely roasty bitter finish. Body is above medium. Heavy on the vanilla and liquorice, certainly decent but not a prime Impie for me.
4.0 From the Needle & Pin, Loughborough. Smooth stout with a drop of vanilla amongst caramel, coffee and chocolate
3.2 It pours opaque black; the head is beige and foamy. The aroma has notes of: pine, anise, charcoal, and cracker. The taste is lightly sweet and finishes bitter. The palate is medium-light bodied with medium carbonation, and has a medium finish. Overall, it's meh.
