Imperial Russian Stout

Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo.

3.8 On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with beige head. Aroma of pine needles, roasted, smokey and floral notes. Tastes bitter with little sweetness. Medium bodied, bitter finish.
3.6 Black appearance. Aroma is coffee and malt. Flavour is smooth, coffee and malt.
3.9 Cask at Manchester CAMRA fest 2019. Frothy off white head stayed on a dark brown still body. Chocolate, demerara & malt aroma. Medium to full bodied, smooth & slick.on the palate. Malt, lactose, berries, brown sugar & chocolate tastes with a bitter tangy finish. Excellent!
3.3 Manc Beer Fest 2020. Pours a black colour. Liqourice. Weird aftertaste. Not that keen
4.0 Cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton Pours a very dark reddish brown with a light cream head. There is an aroma of musty attics when first poured, before coffe and some alcohol kick in. The taste is bitter sweet with brown sugar and chocolate. Finish is smoky with alcoholic strength making its presence known at the back of the mouth. Excellent beer – fully deserving of it’s imperial name, but not overdoing it.
3.8 Bottle from thornbridge Xmas case although I’ve had before somewhere. Intense coffee smell. Bitter but pretty smooth. A heavy hitter perhaps lacking the depth of some of the stronger imperial stouts but a great drop.
4.3 Keg at The Euston Tap in 2013. Super dark ruby with a tan head. Aroma of dark malt, dates, raisins, peel and cocoa. Nice dark chocolate and coffee flavours. Great mouthfeel and lingering bitterness.
4.2 Thuis uit een flesje. Mooie bijna zwarte kleur, beige schuim. Lekker aroma. Smaak is ook uitstekend, vol, redelijke bitterheid en licht verbrande toast. Hoewel een IRS toch niet te zwaar, mede door het percentage van 7,4%.
3.5 Pours nearly black dark mahogany with a three finger, tan head. Aroma is molasses and roast. Taste is creamy brown sugar and some light chocolate, moving to roast and light peat, with a light hop profile. Finish is roast and hops. A good RIS.
3.9 01-Mar-18 (500-ml bottle, Best Before May, 2010: Purchased 30-Dec-09 for $5.99 at the Pizza Port Bottle Shop in Carlsbad, CA) This Imperial Stout, aged 8 years, pours a medium-dark brown body with over half an inch of tan head that settles to a ring. The nose is smoky and roasty with some molasses. The smokiness is equally apparent on the palate, but it's especially the driving force in the finish. Roast, chocolate, coffee with milk, a little fudge, this is really quite delicious. Sweetness is medium-plus to perhaps medium-high, but the smokiness helps to provide something to counter the sweetness. The beer is medium-full bodied, light-medium in carbonation, and very smooth in texture. Overall, it's well past its "expiration date" but this beer is still drinking pretty nicely.
3.8 Almost black colour with medium, creamy tanned hewd, aroma is roasted, dark chocolate , coffee, smoke, taste is really bitter, smoky, coffee, dark chocolate and cocoa in the aftertaste.
3.5 Pivo u flaši. Popijeno u Stella Beer2Go dućanu i kušaoni piva u Medulinu. Nešto slabija aroma , ali ipak se osjeti bačva , suho voće ...nije presladak, a tijelo je malko vodenasto ...i da , 7,4% je premalo alkohola za Imperial Stout.
4.0 Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Bottle, 33cL. 7.4%. Purchase ("Bier Market", @Nantes, FR). Home. A beautiful shining black beer with a great foamy creamy beige head ; good retention ; ok lacing. Black chocolate smell, roasted cereal, light caramel, nut, coffee notes, cinnamon. Medium dry fresh bitter, light to medium sweet, quite warming background, abut harsh. Good body, light to medium oily texture, soft gaseous, bitter>sweet dry chocolate lasting finish. Overall, great !
3.6 We declared Hargreaves Hill Stout as “Vegemite Beer”, but this beer is vegemiter. It’s like when you over apply it, and need to compensate with additional butter.
2.7 (> dark, nez sucré-houblonné, ~café, bouche moyenne, épicée, finale piquante, pas « imperial », s’aplatit)
3.9 F: medium, tanned, average retention. C: dark, opaque. A: dark malts, chocolate, cocoa, bit roasted tones, plums, molasses, brown sugar. T: roasted tones, dry cocoa powder, liquorice, dry on the palate, bit toffee but not sweet feeling, taste is great, full body and lower carbonation, very nice, fully enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Malt Attacks in Brussels.
2.9 Cask. This one's all about the mouthfeel for me - creamy, sweet and warm. Not much happening on the nose, a little burnt leather maybe. Plum, liquorice and warm alcohol. Full bodied. Half pint felt like a meal. Long stout bitterness.
3.3 Pours dark brown, surprisingly large amount of lacing and head. Aroma of cocoa and roasted coffee as expected. Taste is similar with a distinct liquorice note mid-palate. Finish is bitter and slightly hoppy with an almost green tea flavour.
3.8 Bottle, 0.33l. Clear deep ruby pour, one finger frothy beige head, medium retention. Decent lacing. Nose is nicely hopped with a touch of roasted malts. Nice, but nothing like an imperial stout. Medium body. Soft to medium carbonation, fizzy and lively. Roasty bitter taste and aroma. Roasted malts with a hint of licorice. Herbal liquor. Peppery. Well hopped - definitely not an imperial stout here. Grassy citrus notes, slightly dusty. Finishes dry and moderately bitter. Overall, nice beer. Missed style for sure, this one tastes more like a black IPA, and a solid one at that. Good one.
3.4 Cask at the Great British Winter Beer Festival 2018, Norwich. Programme said it was 7.7% Poured almost black with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma of toffee, berries, liquorice, chocolate and roasted malts. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Medium plus body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Easy drinking, lacked some depth.
3.8 the aroma is caramel and chocolate with hints of toast, cocoa, toffee and bisquit... the taste is caramel and chocolate with notes of roasted malt, toffee, cocoa, toast and cake... sweet, bitter and dry aftertaste...
Przyjemnie alkoholowe. Oleiste i gęste. Pozostawia srogi lacing. Czuć z lekka i chmiel.
3.5 #1910 Bottle. Dark brown, high tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, alcohol, plums, citruses. Taste is sharp bitter, lightly sweet. Cherries, citruses, peels, coffee, leaves, alcohol. Medium to fuller body, moderately carbonated. Good black IPA-ish :)
3.6 Bottle 0.5l. Clear, dark red to brown colored. AROMA- pralines, liquer, citrusy hops. FLAVOR- neutral, bitter, dark chocolate, citrusy, pine, leaves. Medium to fuller bodied. R.I.S.? Not really... But as black IPA it's very nice beer.
3.4 bottiglia 33 cl, schiuma media grana cappuccino media persistenza, colore marrone/nero, al naso caffè liquirizia, in bocca è cremosa caffè vaniglia, carbonatazione piatta, oily, corpo rotondo, amaro deciso lungo nel finale. Non mi ha entusiasmato. Da riprovare 12.01.18 @ Ministarstvo Nis
4.2 My first Imperial Stout, it won't be my last. Marzipan aroma fizzs off the alcohol. Dive into coffe, dark chocolate, then burnt brownie and sweet maple syrup. The mouthfeel is superb, your perfect superb. Then warming comforting rich. Very wonderful.
3.6 Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Shared with Anke! Pours cloudy black with a foamy, beige head that leaves some lacing. The aroma contains dark chocolate, fruity hops, roasted malt, yeast, some dark fruits & smoke, and strangely something unclean, like wet cloth. It tastes light chocolatey/malty sweet and light to medium roasted bitter; hoppy, toasty finish, faint touch of alcohol. Full body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Good, but in the field of Imperial Stouts, I don't think I'll remember this one.
3.3 Lager aroma, some roasted malt, lots of caramel malt. Clear black color with small sized brown head. Sweet caramel taste, some roast, bitter. Thin to medium body, flat carbonation, creamy. Disappointing for imperial stout.
3.4 0,33 l. Bottle. Dark brown color with light brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Strong, bitter, and coffee taste. Bitter finish
4.3 Daca beam asta in Petersburg in acea noapte alba cu vant cand nu s-au deschis podurile, nu aveam nici un regret. E magica.
