Thornbridge / Wild Beer Tart

Thornbridge / Wild Beer Tart

Our Bakewell Sour brewed in collaboration with Wild Beer Co. pours a golden yellow colour with a white head, the beer is refreshingly tart and dry with a combination of citrusy hops and flavours of grapefruit and bitter lemon.

The name Tart is inspired by the Bakewell delicacy where we are based and accurately describes the flavour of the beer in a single word.

3.5 Botella. Golden colour, medium rather short lasting white head. Pleasant tart fruity (berry) aroma. Fine palate. Flavour is fruity and tart, sweet, citric, berry, pleasant, fair medium bitterness.
1.6 Review on the bottled version only... I'll never have this 'Tart' again. Taking liberties with Sour Ales. Why have overwhelming lemons attacking your taste buds. Grapefruit has been a nice addition recently to ales but in this it just gets entangled in the zest of the lemon. Every swig is like a tequila shot, which would be alright if there wasn't 330ml of it!! Want a strong IPA that's potently zesty and citrusy go for Elvis's Juice from Elvis... I mean Brew Dog, or Jaipur by Thornbridge, which ironically also make the quite awful 'Tart'. Maybe I've drunk this wrong and this is actually a syrup that needs to be added to soda? The only praise I can give on this, is that the smell of it attracts you to it, and advertises visually and aromatically to this product that you will try only once. If you cannot find the alternatives then I'd recommend taste testing a speeding gas-wagon as that would be the only way your life would be better than knowing the scarring taste of Tart!!
3.5 Heavy bitter lemon, almost overpowering but made ok by after flavours of calamasi and young passion fruit, all a little sour for this (sour) not incredible but could be if worked with the right hops and ingenuity, not brilliant but I can see where the brewer was aiming for. Love to hate it hate to love it it’s marmite
3.1 Straw colour with thin head, quickly dissipating. Very pleasant lemon, grapefruit and hop aroma. Almost overpowering lemon taste, too tart for me.
3.3 Straw blond with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some floral apple notes. Flavour also has tart grapefruit. A decent sour but I was expecting the flavours of a Bakewell Tart.
2.6 Pleasant citrus aroma. Clear light yellow with initial decent white head, but dissipates quickly. Tart and sour as per the description - bit too much for me. Ok mouthfeel. Just too tart for me.
3.4 330 ml bottle from Tesco, bb 09/07/2019. Golden, crystal clear, white and swiftly dissipating head. Nose - lemon zest, funk, coriander. Taste - sour, lemony. Bitter base.
2.2 Tap. Pours Cloudy yellow with a White head. Tart and Extremely Dusty nose and flavor. Basement and popcorn.
3.6 Draught at Taphouse. Clear golden coloured with a small white head. Fruity and light acidic aroma of hops and citrus. Fruity and light acidic flavour of passion fruits and citrus. Tart finish.
Recomendable.
3.0 On tap. Pours clear golden with no head. A: sour T: really tart and sour, bit vinegar.
3.6 Botella de @Vivalabirra, Oviedo 28/10/2018 Color amarillo pajizo, aromas cítricos levadura, sabor citrico, notas acidas cuerpo ligero.
3.7 Bottle from Tesco. Blond with a white head. Mild funky aroma. The taste is pleasantly tart and zingy with crisp citrus and cider apples before a dry finish. Nice.
3.4 330ml bottle. Clear golden with a moderate white head. Tart nose, taste is similarly tart, over a biscuit malt base. I expected more cherry, but I'm not disappointed it's not there

3.3 Złotej barwy, klarowne. Piana obfita, szybko znika. W aromacie kwiaty, owoce. Sporo cytrusów, grapefruit. W smaku kwaśne, z delikatnym goryczkowym posmakiem.
3.8 The first time I had this I was unprepared for the taste sensation, not realising it was a sour beer. And as a result my first experience of this beer was unsatisfactory, expecting, perhaps wanting, something different. This time I was prepared, and allowed its remarkable tartness to combine with me, rather than fight against me. Allow yourself to embrace it, and it will happily embrace you back.
4.7 Love this drink. I'd never tried sour beers until a few weeks ago. I went to the States and my brother in law introduced me to them. Was happy to find some in the UK. Yeah I'm slow to the mark. But I think this drink is spot on. Love the grapefruit kick to it. Will definitely buy more
3.1 Pours light yellow with a modest head; aroma is lemony. Taste lives up to the name - dominated by lemon but with some grapefruit. Refreshing if not complex.
3.8 Bottle going cheap at Tesco. No mention of Wild Beer on my bottle. Just a very straightforward golden-coloured sour ale with a zesty albeit mild citrus nose, surprisingly full on the palate. Light carbonation disappears quickly. Easily drinkable. Don’t expect a myriad of flavours, but a distinct sourness comes through, not unlike that of the Thornbridge/Brooklyn Serpent collab, which this is like a budget version of. Excellent for the £1.23 I paid for it!
Klasse!
3.4 Hoppig, brood, zuur fruit, zoetje. Mooie smaakcomponenten samen en een goede sour om door te drinken.
3.1 No head to this very light beer. Sweet, with a crisp, gooseberry fruitiness on the nose. In the mouth it’s very zingy and crisp with an almost tannic finish. I could happily crush a few of these. It’s not complex, could probably do with being introduced to some wood for a while.
3.5 330ml bottle. Poured a slightly hazy yellow golden colour with a fizzy, very short-lived white head and lots of bubbles. The aroma is yeast, lemon lime citrus, mineral. The flavour is moderate sour with a fresh, crisp, light tart citrus palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
3.7 In de Wildeman @ Brettfest 2017. The aroma has brett, some citrus, hints of raisin. Bit hazy, golden coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is light sour, funky, light citric, bit grainy, has a hint of vinegar. Easy and refreshing.
3.7 Bottle from Tesco. Gold with a lively fizz but no head. Tastes of raspberries, sweet lemon and pink grapefruit. Sweetish and sourish, tasty but refreshing. Hides the alcohol well - I'd never have guessed this was 6%. It could be called a little simple and unchallenging, but sometimes that's what you want. This is a great summer refresher, and pretty good for an entry-level supermarket sour.
3.5 Bottle from Tesco. A light golden beer with a small white head. Citrus aroma and a taste of bitter, lemon, lime and grapefruit. Notes of mango and orange combing both sweet and sour. A tart and refreshing beer - highly drinkable.
3.8 Bottle from Tesco Express. No mention of Wild Beer on the label. Pours clear, fizzy pale gold. Sweet tart, citrus aroma. Light and refreshing, sweet, sherbet, sour with citrus. Nothing to do with a Bakewell Tart!
