Three Floyds Amon Amarth Ragnarök

Three Floyds Amon Amarth Ragnarök

A beer for the end of ages brewed with our friends in the band Amon Amarth. This Aesir Porter is a robust and hearty beer brewed with local honey and a small portion of smoked malt. When Heimdall sounds the Giallar-horn this is the beer to be hoisted by the gods in anticipation of the coming battle.

4.0 Bottle @ RBESG’13 Grand Tasting @ De Molen: Served in a Molen taster: Thanks for sharing Benzai: Medium sized and slowly changing creamy vanilla beige colored foamy head on top of a deep dark brown colored beer. Aromas of prunes, raisin, roast, coal and light malty. Flavours of roast, raisin, prunes, bitter, creamy, porridge, light sweet, toffee and coffee. 3.6 66cl Bottle at RBESG’13 Grand Tasting. Black colour, beige head. Aroma is sweet, liquorice, honey, hops, hard roasted malts, fudge. Flavour is quite sweet, malty, liquorice, pine, hops, sticky honey finish with some bitter roast and hops, Medium-bodied. Expected something more aggressive from the Guardians of Asgaard.
4.1 Bottled @ RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Dark color, short head. Intense malty aroma, chocolat, hint of roast, toffee. Big flavor from the malts as well, medium bitter, soft sweetness. Intense maltiness. Lovely

3.9 Pours a beautiful dark brown beer with a good tan head. Smells fruity and coffee. Taste is coffee and creamy.
3.8 Pours black with low light tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, light whisky barrel, light smoke and vanilla, some german sausage. Taste is balanced smoky sweet with clear german sausage, leather, earth. Lingering sweet finish with some coffee. Body is medium and creamy with soft carbonation.
3.9 Tasting courtesy of dschiller. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head that fades without lacing. Aromas are smoke, choco-coffee and hops. Flavors are cocoa and roast with an aftertaste that is subtle smoke and hop hints. Palate is very thick and perfect for the style with just the right amount of silkiness that eases the drinking experience. Overall, this is a very nice smoked beer, with very balanced and subtle flavors that don’t overwhelm the palate.
4.1 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a khaki head. Aroma is smoke, hops, cocoa. Taste is sweet with some smoke and a touch of roast and bitterness. Still holding up quite well. Enjoyable beer for our little Viking metal tasting.
3.8 Opaque dark brown with small tan head. Aroma of citrus, coffee, grass, chocolate, licorice and biscuit. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of chocolate, grass, tropical fruit and coffee. Full bodied with medium carbonation.
3.9 Large bottle. Nice chocolate and coffee nose with soy and wood. Black with lace. Fruity chocolate flaor, coffee, very nice fruitiness including citrus from the hops. Tangy and rich. Very good.
3.8 Bomber from FlandersNed-thanks, Steve! Pours dark brown with fairly thick but fading head. Nice dark roast malts and a touch of light roast coffee on nose. Some subtle smoke aroma on nose as it warmed. Straight forward, but very solid porter flavors. That Signature 3Floyd’s taste. Slightly metallic after taste after it warmed. Reminiscent of a drier Alpha Klaus. Liked it and it’s held up well, but I’d say smoke ’em if ya got ’em.
3.0 22 oz. bottle, sent from StFun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours black with a medium beige head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, a little smoke, a little anise and licorice. Flavour brings out some roasty notes, some metallic notes, a bit of smoke, and oxidation. Full-bodied, a bit sludgy, with some notes that don’t really blend well -- seems a bit off the mark for the Three Floyds typical quality. Only decent.
3.8 Bottle. Pours black with a medium height brown head. Aroma of licorice. Sweet drinkable brew, rosted malt with lots of vanilla and a hint of smoke.
3.7 22oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Roast, some chocolate, smoke, licorice, and some ashiness.
3.8 22oz bottle, shared by DanielCoor. Dark red, dark brown color, but clear still. Good thin light brown head. Nice spread of lace. Good earthy piney tasty malt nose. Nice dark chocolate notes in the flavor. Bigger body, good smooth but crisp lighter carbonation. Some cola. Hint of herbal / tobacco notes. Light bitterness... Some sweet... and some odd tartness, as well. Not too bad alcohol for 8.2%, just that strange sourness in the finish... Still though, a great hoppy porter. Was taken aback by how hoppy Three Floyds’ Alpha Klaus was, but I can’t help but like this particular hoppy porter... More good portery malt balance, less over-the-top hoppiness, here.
4.1 Bottle at a bottle share. Pours a rather dark brown color. Nose is very slightly sour with some floral hoppy elements to it. Taste is a tad bitter with some good roasting in there. Nice and smooth.
3.1 Bottle that has been in my cupboard for over a year. I had fresh and thought it was very hoppy, almost black IPA like. Tried this bottle aged. Completly black pour. The hops are gone. Left behind a dark stale malt with a bit of licorice and tar. Tastes like an english style porter. Not a fan of these porters without any sweetness. Fairly thick
4.3 Very dark, creamy head. Rich aroma, smoke, liquorice. Smooth, malty. Rye bread.
3.8 Black liquid. Licorice and burnt malt in the nose. Tiny offwhite head. Blanced well tasting rich stout. Low carbonated, not to viscous.
4.1 Oily black pour with a good creamy tan head. Aroma of licorice and roasty malts. Some smoke. Rich mouthfeel. Suprisingly balanced. After smelling it I was prepared for a licoricebomb, but the tastes blend well. Licorice, some wood, leather and roasted malts. Good indeed, though not as crazy as expected.
4.1 Bottle from Ølbutikken, CPH. Pours black with a big creamy tanned head. Aroma is quite roasty, chocolate, hops, liquorice and light smoked. Taste is tarish dark malts, liquorice, light burnt end, nice carbonation level.Lingering soft and dry liquorice.
3.6 Black colour. Caramel aroma. Sweet flavour, dark malts, hints of chocolate.
3.4 Pitch black, malty aroma, dry bitter finish. Not a bad beer but nothing too special.
4.3 18th November 2011 Opaque black beer, good tan head. Nice fruity nose that also has a whiff of wood and smoke. Crispy semi dry palate. Good hops - strong pine and nice citrus. Rich dark malt and dark chocolate. Lactose and coffee. Trace of tangy red berry fruits. Minerals. Strong red berry fruits and pine in the finish. Comes over like a fine Black IPA, lovely!
4.1 Pitch black body, brown head. Aroma is very complex and has nice sweet roasted malts with some dark fruits and chocolate. Flavour is even more complex with some acidic, but still sweet dark malts, piney hoppiness, some hints of smoke and chocolate. Really nicely balanced and overall really fullfilling beer.
3.0 From notes on a bomber I drank in 2011: Being a Tolkien geek, I picked up on the Mount Doom reference right away... pours dark, good head, mouth is coffee, oranges, smoke, tobacco (mainly Copenhagen snuff... which during my youth in the Army, I use to dip a can a day of), malt. Bottle art and name are better than beer itself. Not my favorite 3F’s brew by a long shot.
3.6 Dark brown to black colour, white rim. Aroma of caramel, coffee, green banana and molasses. Quite sweet flavour, sugar, roasted malts, bitter hops. Finish coffee, quite bitter, chocolate and cacao. (From 66cL bottle @ RBBWG II, Wilrijk 2013. Courtresy of BeerloverBen. Thanks Ben!)
3.5 Biggish dark brown head. Opaque black body goes deep dark red at edges. Roasty raisiny chocolate aroma with spicy lacquer notes. Dry-sweet roasty raisiny lacquer taste with herbal spicy notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish spicy lacquer chocolate aftertaste with dusty caramel and raisins notes. Nice, highly drinkable, balanced and harmonic. (0.65l bottle, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)
