4.1 Bottle from a trade. Pours heavy black with a tan head. Sweet with lots of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. I think the individual beers are all better.
4.2 Bottle. Balanced and smooth stout with notes of vanilla and milk chocolate. The right ammount of alcohol in the aftertaste.
3.7 Bottle. Deep dark, a bit red, brown head. Aroma coffee vanilla, oak. Taste sweet, a bit bitter, coffee. Sour and tart feel. Had higher expectations.
4.5 30.09.2015, 0,65l bottle (first batch) shared @ BBGTC tasting: Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is very balance and nice oxidized, salty licorice, dark malts, coffee, dark malts, caramel, grass, dark fruits, dark sugar, chocolate, hops. Taste is slightly sour-ish and rich, licorice, coffee, dark malts, dark fruits, grass, hops, caramel, grass, paper. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Very nice, oxidized very well.
4.4 Bottle shared with BBGTC. bottle from 2011. pours a black body with a Dark tanned head. loads of liquorice on the nose, roast malts, bitter chocolate and hints of asphalt. 4.5 Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Pours a deep brown, near-black body with a medium creamy light beige head. Nose is caramel, peanuts, chocolate, licorice, cream, port wine and hints of coffee liqueur and pecan nuts. Taste is dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, cocoa and hints of salty licorice, tar, nougat, nuts and dark sugars. Full body, medium carbonation. Lovely complex blend of several epic stouts, and it shows. Wow. Sooo good.
4.3 22 oz bottle shared with ebone1988. The pour is light. It fills the glass with a medium black with some ruby poking around the edges. The dark tan head sits thickly on top with a nice lace left behind. The aroma is a big chocolate malt bomb, with a touch of roast. There is an excellent complexity with lighter dark fruit notes and a bit of hop that would be from the Beer Geek Brunch. There is just a hint of alcohol on the back end. The flavor is better than it smells. There is an excellent roastiness to carry the chocolate malts and the dark fruits bring back a bit of sweetness. The alcohol really smashes you in the face, er, mouth, on the back end. The mouth feel is thick and viscous, beautifully carbonated, with a lingeringly bitter, really bitter aftertaste. This is very well done
4.5 Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is unbelievable, sweet malt, licorice, milk chocolate, amazing. Appearance poured light, otherwise black with a brown head. Taste is robust, sweet milk chocolate fades to dark fruit, fades to robust roasted malt and booze. Mouthfeel is thick as fuck, oily, great carbonation, and boozy aftertaste. Overall, this is incredibly complex and lovely.
4.3 650ml bottle from trade with bytemesis, shared at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Black color with beige brown head. Malty aroma, light roasted, lot of dark fruits, dried fruits, caramel, bready, dark chocolate, milk chocolate light coffee. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma, milk chocolate, light coffee and fruits. Full silky creamy body with soft carbonation. Very good! Thank you Mike!
4.0 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with black chocolate and quite a bit of residuals sugar notes is quite pleasant. Taste is a nice mix between some roasted malt with lots of black chocolates notes and some residual sugar notes and subtle coffee notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with surprisingly no alcohol that is easily apparent. Way too easy to drink with just the right level of complexity.
3.5 Bottle. Dark brown pour with very little head. Sugary aroma of caramel, chocolate, red wine, and some dark fruit. Tastes too sugary sweet for me and seems a bit oxidized. Big chocolate syrup and dark fruit but also some cardboard and stale coffee. Medium body. I think I would’ve liked this better a couple years ago but I still think it would’ve been too sweet then too.
4.0 Nice beer. Very sweet. Easy drinker hides the alcohol well. First drank: dark lord day 2015
4.5 Aroma of dark chocolate and coffee, taste is more dark chocolate, coffee, burnt malts, really, really, good! Taste at DLD 2015.
3.5 On tap at Three Floyd’s. Poured almost black almost no head. Aroma light with n mm malty choc. Light carb med bod. Taste light bitter Choc hop
4.2 March 21, 2015. Bottle received in a trade with craftbeer1over, thanks Brian! Black with a small brown head. Aroma is heavy with coffee, chocolate, raisins, caramel, licorice, plum and slight alcohol. Taste is sweet dark fruits, caramel, licorice, dark fruits, dried fruits, smooth light bitterness with roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet finish with dried fruits, licorice, caramel and warming alcohol. Full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy texture.
4.0 Lets go to the Jockey Box what next? Fred’s Softball, shared by friend, not in dining room, for make the taste! Pours black with a good head and decent lacing on the glass. The aroma offers a bunch of stuff, raisins, chocolate, port wine, rum... booziness. It works together nicely for sure. The flavor offers sweetness & richness with a low level of bitterness. Most bitterness offered comes in the form of roasty malt and coffee character both of which are modest players in the ball game. It’s chocolaty, it’s got a lot of dark fruit and a good bit of booziness. My review makes it sound like I don’t like it, which isn’t true at all. It’s huge, and it’s fun, not sure I’d want a lot of it... but I sure do like it real good.
4.4 A: Coffee, hint of bourbon, some oak T: Wow... Bitter coffee, still some bourbon, hint of plums.. I: Amazing stout! Available? Drink it.
4.2 Bomber: Shared with Iluvatarmilan: Served in a Chouffe glass at 13 degrees Celsius: Black beer with a medium sized beige brown head. Aroma is just like a BIPA and some slight butterscotch hints. Flavours of deep dark roast, soy, bitters, mocha, dark chocolate, some liquorice, chalk, cacoa, some hops, quite refreshing for an Imperial Stout! Aftertaste is a mix of liquorice, roast, dark chocolate, hops, bitters.. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, close to full bodied.
4.4 Astonishing beer, which is little surprise considering its components. Depth, strength, hoppiness, chocolate, coffee. Grains. Mutes the considerable abv amazingly well.
3.7 Deep black pour with no head. Aroma of sweet sugar, a lot like Dark Lord in the aroma. Taste is explosion of bitterness and sweet that play on each other nicely. I can taste elements of all 4 beers. Bitter coffee, sweet toffee, candy & roast. Huge chewy mouth. Very interesting and also tasty.
4.1 Bottle, pours black with tan head. Aroma is rich roast, coffee, light dark fruits. Taste is surprisingly roast and balanced, well done
4.3 Bottle share at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell on 30 Jun 2012. Poured black, with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, liquorice and alcohol soaked dark fruits. Thick, full mouthfeel. Strong flavours of coffee, treacle and some smokiness. Finish was dates, burnt malt, cocoa and port.
3.5 Are these blends a bit gimmicky? I don’t care - i bought into the hype. Great mix here with lots of dark fruit, booziness and some faint cocoa notes. A lot of licorice here which I wasn’t expecting. It’s held up well though.
3.9 Bottleshare thanks to DrewFace! Pours black, almost no head. Aroma is raisin, toffee, burnt sugar, more sugar. Taste is sweet, sugar, burnt toffee, bitter is hell.
4.0 Sweet, malty, boozy, chocolate, grainy, with more sweet and boozy. Dark thick pour, brown head. Sweet, boozy, malty and grainy, very rich. Decent amount of alcohol heat.
4.2 Bottle shared by dectercat. Lots of rich chocolate and deep yummy. Lightly bitter. Full mouthfeel. Taste is really just complex. I feel dumber for drinking this. Lots of dark cocoa. Coffe. Really gut.
4.2 Pours black with a big beautiful brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast, coffee and espresso. Lovely to taste that Dark Lord is not overwhelming all other beers, nice balance. Sweet from Dark Lord, coffee from Beer Geek Brunch. Lovely stuff. Maybe the alcohol is a bit too present.
4.0 22 ounce bottle. Pours black with a decent tan head. Nice aroma of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, spice, and a touch of alcohol. This bottle seemed to hold it’s age well. Very nice.
4.1 Black with a brown head. Aroma has nice roast, malts, espresso. Coffee is obvious but well balanced with loads of roastyness. Totally surprised that the overpowering sweetness of Dark Lord has been toned down. Very nice
4.1 Black pour with a tan head. The aroma is a mix of chocolate and roasted malt with some huge coffee character. The flavor is very similar. I get some heavy coffee as well as some chocolate, roasted malt and cream. There is also some nice vanilla character as the beer warms up. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This stout has it all. Excellent.
