Three Floyds Chevalier Bertrand du Guesclin

Three Floyds Chevalier Bertrand du Guesclin

American Sour in wine barrels with blueberries

In order to survive in the 14th century one needed to be a force to be reckoned with. In Brittany, Spain and France this knight proved his mettle in battle. This tart blueberry ale was brewed in one of our 3000 gallon foeders in his honour.

3.7 Bottle shared at Jonas place. A almost clear orange reddish beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of red grapes, brett, tart berries. Taste of intense sour red fruits, brett, vinegar, lactic fruits, intense.
3.7 (bottle, danke koelschtrinker!) hazy bright ruby colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of red grapes, redcurrants and vanilla, with a light hint of barnacles, some black olives, coconut and lemon juice. flavour is mostly cherry juice, lemon pips and custard, slightly phenolic, with some notes of physalis in the rather tart semi-tannic cherry pip finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.
3.2 Bottle from the brewery store. A murky golden amber. No head at all. Funky-tart aromas and flavor. Subtle fruit-blueberry flavors. Not too sour. Hints of vanilla-oak. Short dry tart acidic finish.
4.0 750 mL waxed bottle poured, with much thanks to Tcon for the share. Always a treat. A bright, glowing, reddish orange pour with a fading head. A very tart grape and blueberry aroma. Extremely sour impression to start. Flavor is a ton of sweet, but mostly sour blueberry, grape, and red wine notes. Lingering wine and tart berry finish. Very nice.
4.1 Hazed orange with a pinkish hue. Tart aroma. Tart but not too tart; vinegar character with blueberry notes. Notes: Bottle shared at Brian’s BBQ, June ’17
3.1 Bottle, from brewery. Goood aroma, kind of a weak good. Fairly tart, mildly sweet aroma. Clean brownish orange color no head or lace. Fairly sour flavor. Medium body, still smooth mouthfeel, fairly sour finish. Meh, this one didn’t make the grade overall. Aroma is mild to me. Appearance suffers from flatness. Mouthfeel is dead still. Oh well.
4.1 Very hazy purple, red color. Sour nose with oak, balsamic vinegar, and blueberry. Light, tart, lots of berry fruit, balsamic vinegar, brett in the mouth. Very nice. Lingering blueberry, oak and balsamic finish. Really nice stuff.

4.1 750 ml bottle Three Floyds is an old pro by now at making sure their releases set the bar high. This sour does just that. Thanks to the person who kindly shared a bottle with me so I could find out for myself what this former up and comer is doing these days. Obviously that isn’t resting on their laurels. Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy reddish brown body bubbles with life. Sickly sticky legs crawl up and down the glass. Malt vinegar, blueberry puree, and sweet dense alcohol bite at the air like a dog at someone’s heels as they jog past a house. Flavor / Palate - Blueberry pie tickles the senses. The tartness is sweet with a sour tang that plays off the overall experience to form a memorable and top notch experience. Everything about this defines Three Floyds as more than just a hop focused Midwestern brewery. I’d love to try a few more things in this vein the next year or two.
4.0 0.75l waxed bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Quite a cloudy one this! On the border of being murky and deep blood amberish purple in color. A bubbly sidesticking just off-white head on the top. Bretty sour nose with raspberries, cherries and blueberries. Wood sour in a way. Herbal, some wet human skin and traces of caramel. Lot and lots of aroma and it’s most definitely pleasant to smell at this. Oh, it’s super sour in the taste also. Tart blueberries, cherries and wood. Skogsbæryogurt and lemon acidity. Lemon peel oils actually. Then the blueberries kicks in, reminding me of trips in the forest putting blueberries in my mouth instead if the jar I was supposed to put them in. A really flavorful and fine one! 17.12.2014
3.7 [Bottle (750ml) shared with GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a hazy orange-peach with a small quick-diminishing frothy white head. Really nice tart aroma, quite fruity, along with red wine notes. Slightly watery, but tasty flavour (7+) is fruity but also very tart and sour -- surprisingly so. Average bodied. Overall it’s quite good.
3.6 75 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy reddish amber with an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are brett, blueberries, oak, and caramel - with a tart finish.

3.6 From tap; Intens blueberry aroma, reddish with big head, notes whiskey and applejuice, wood, rather sour, thin mouthfeel
3.7 Murky burnt orange juice with no head at all. Lots of brett on the nose, with some sour acidic notes and some apple. The flavor is pretty tart, lemony, citrus, brett, and sour cherries. Fizzy, and finishes dry with long lingering lemon juice like tartness.
3.8 2016-12-03. Hazy dark orange body, small beige head. 3+ Aroma of tart fruit, lots of cherry. 7+ Flavour is tart up front, nice fruit, light woody undertones? 4.2 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. W notatkach stoi jak wół, że to amerykańskie Rose de Gambrinus :)
3.3 On tap at Argus. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges quickly. Aroma has acidic blueberry and dry red wine notes. Flavor is full of acidic blueberry with a dry red wine finish.
4.0 Bottle: Poured a hazy burgundy color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some oak and light cherry notes with some funky notes and light blueberry notes are also perceptible. Taste is a complex mix of tart and oak notes with light cherry and quite a bit of blueberry notes with some funky notes and light residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation. Super complex beer with good drinkability and well balanced acidity.
4.1 750mL thanks to tastybeer. Hazed raspberry color with a white layer of foam. Rich raspberry dessert nose with vanilla cake. Taste is lactic, sharp berry blend, small sugar balance. Delicious... well done. Low salt, dark berry flavors come through nicely. Didn’t know Three Floyds was making sours this good!
3.9 Bottle shared by Michael, thank you! Pour is mostly clear amber with a quickly dissipating white head. Maybe a slight purple hue. Aroma is tart and juicy with light berry and a bit more sweetness than expected. Flavor is a nice balance of tart and sweet with subtle berry and wine components in the finish. Also a nice subtle funk in there. Really tasty.
3.9 Tap at mikkeller bar. Fruity aroma of citrus, Cherry, Blueberry. Yeasty notes og Brett. Lactic. The flavour is very sour. The body is light and the texture is juicy. Nice refreshing...
3.9 Draught@CBC2015. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, alcoholic, some wooden notes along with mild berries as well. Flavour is berries, some mild tart wooden notes as well as mild alcohol and some fruitiness.
3.9 Enjoyed on tap at Three Floyds in a stubby glass 1/16/2016. Look - Pale Orange. No head or lacing. Syrupy. Smell - Blueberry. Sour apple. Taste - Has a light beer taste in the beginning. Turns quickly earthy sour. Blueberry but still sour apple. Feel - Thick and syrupy. Dry. Alcohol burn is minimal. Overall - Floyds menu doesn’t show the abv of this. Pretty thick. I have a feeling I am drinking a lot of alcohol but can’t taste it.
3.8 750 ml bottle sampled at Mark’s gigantic tasting. Pours a hazy rose color with a small off-white head. Lots of wild berries in this, sweet and tart, with florals, oak, vanilla, yogurt, and funk. The blueberries and sweetness give it a bit of a cobbler-like flavor. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a fruity, sweet, lightly tart mouthfeel. I’ve now had a few good Three Floyds sours in a row, so it seems they’ve turned a corner in this program.
4.2 On tap at Three Floyd?s with koleminer20. Aroma is tart blueberry, skins, funk. Appearance is golden amber, off white head. Taste is sour, blueberry, funk, skins, very tart and delectable. Mouthfeel is crisp carbonation and medium body. Overall, yowza that is nice.
