3.3Bomber shared by Lubiere (merci!), served cold in a goblet. 10AP10. My first 3 F’s brew!
App.: Murky orange-amber with a white rim.
Aroma: Lots of malt, dried fruits, sweet honey, peppery, treacle, restrained molasses, almost bright tropical fruits, interesting.
Palate: Medium body and restrained effervescence.
Flav.: Lots of esters, dried fruits, sweet honey, an indescribable savoury/sweet note, lots of esters, slightly mashy; sweet with limited bitterness and an estery finish.
Not ideal for a first from this epic brewer.
3.4A reddish copper ale with a thin white head. A superb vinous IPA with treacle, pinhey hops, musty notes, quite nice. In mouth, a light bodied IPA with some good hopping, floral, but overall, after more than 1 year, this one is not holding up as expected. Tasted with Diogene, Probstk, Mike on April 10 2010.
3.8Bottle purchased in Indianapolis in 2008, shared at March 10 tasting. Orange/red with fizy white head, citrus, piny and caramel nose, slight oxidation. Big caramel flavor, moderate/mild bitter with some chocolate. Can tell it’s past its prime, but decent still.
3.3From bottle courtesy of dpjuart. Nice hoppy aroma, caramel with aged notes, light oxidation. Sweet nose with not much bitterness. Medium amber orange clear with thin white head. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Starts with medium sweetness, caramel, stale hops and honey. Light oxidation. This one is probably a little past its prime.
3.9A: A clear, rich amber color with a fluffy white head.
S: Pretty malty, nice caramel scent to it. Hops are orange and a fruity sweetness.
T: Grapefruit and orange as far as the hops go. The hops subside fairly quickly and then the malty takes over. The finish is slightly resinous and bitter.
M: Smooth and medium bodied.
D: A pretty good beer, but I was expecting a lot more from a Three Floyds Anniversary ale.
3.4Thanks to deyholla for the bottle! I think I missed out on this one as its over a year old now. It pours orange witha small disappearing off white head. the aroma is big on caramel, toffee, honey, and orange. The flavor is honey, toffee, and caramel in that order. Orange and a dash of lemon in the finish. Not very bitter and low carbonation. This was definitely past its prime, but still a nice treat.
3.8Bottle. Orange, lemon, and floral (jasmine I assume) aroma. Amber color with small head. Sweet orange malt and light lemon grass hops. Smooth drinking with mild hops. I like it but probably wouldn’t be a favorite of hops lovers.
3.3Hazy orange with a medium sized white head. Sweet aroma with oranges, malt, pine and hoppy notes. Flavour was sweet and peachy with hops, pine and malty notes. Finished bitter.
3.3Bottle, i wasn’t crazy about the X, and this kinda followed the same path. A copper golden body with an off white head. Big dusty spicy jasmine notes, stale dust y hop character, some floral pine and spice notes. Loads of caramel and malt y warming. Decent.
3.2A murky dark orange color with almost no head. Aroma of caramel sweetness. Full bodied and lots of sweet flavor. Hop profile is somewhat muted and is not a profile I particularly care for. Reminds me of that rubbing alcohol sort of experience. Getting hints of sticky resiny pine but on overdrive. Malt profile is nice with all the caramel and toasty grains.
3.5Bottle 22fl.oz.
Light light unclear medium amber orange color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, flowers - jasmin, spicy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090922]
3.5Pours a hazy orange-copper into the glass, with an initial soda-esque head that diminishes to a tiny cap, leaving sparse lace. The nose is of candy orange slices, balanced by earthen hops. The flavors are of candied oranges, some grapefruit-citrus, and a touch of pine toward the finish. There is a light (ever-so) bready contingency throughout the pull, but not highlighted by any one aspect of the brew. The bitter back-palate is a tad underdone (especially for 3 Floyds), but the integration is nice in the mouth. It’s not necessarily complex, but has a smooth mouthfeel that makes for an easy quaff. Again, not the most intricate or best-represented IPA out there, but it definitely makes for a nice rating, and a brew that I’d have on more than just "special occasions". Decent, but nothing to write home about.
3.5bottle, thanks to Ughsmash! Pours a carmel light amber with a thin off white head. Strong floral aroma with some pine and sweet orange. Nice toasted malt and toffee body, nice and sweet, with a light bitter hop finish and a noticable jasmine note. This is more sweet than bitter but the off kilter balance is enjoyable. This could appeal to alot of people, and I’m one of them.
2.7Clear, effervescent pale copper pour, large yellowish head. Gobs of lace. Aroma is caramel, and a bit of stale dust. Actually smells hot with alcohol. Flavor dry and cellary on the front, tinged with hops bitterness. Turning towards a biscuity-stale caramel, floral highlights here. Bitter-resinous finish. Medium body, soft on the palate, slightly metallic. I didn’t care for it.
3.8aged about a year. i didnt quite care for this fresh so i decided to age one and compare. rating is for aged. pours a rich brown/amber with medium white head. aroma is hops and citrus, nutty malt, spice, and jasmine. drinks incredibly smooth with a slight bitter hop on the front and the sweet caramel nutty malt coming right into play. jasmine and spice intermingles with a fair malt finish. wish i saved another bottle.
3.5Bottle via trade thanks to dug on BA. Pours a fantabulously resplendent hazy copper color with a medium white head and good lacing. Nice citrus and floral hop aroma, along with light fruits and sweet malt. Flavor is not nearly as hop-forward as other FFF IPAs - I feel like this may be a little bit past its prime - with jasmine noticeable as well as spices, somewhat muted citrus hops, and sweet pale and caramel malt. Body is medium-full with average carbonation and a smooth yet fairly lively palate. Good stuff, but FFF has done way better.
3.8Bottle, courtesy of bulldogp04. Poured a hazy amber color with a thin off-white head. Nose is big floral hops, citrus, and caramel. Medium body with soft carbonation. Flavor is slightly dry and spicy, notes of caramel, grass, pine, citrus and camomile. Finishes mildly bitter. Not sure if I picked up the Jasmine but I don’t think I have ever tasted anything flavored with Jasmine so I might not have recognized it.
4.0Poured deep orange. Nose is huge hops, dank, pine, citrus, floral, some spices, clean malt sweetness. Flavor is almost a rye, big sweet hops, some booze, pine bitterness, resiny citrus hops, fruity sweetness and big caramel. Nice full mouth feel.
3.2Hazy brown/orange color, very little carbonation and and a very sweet herbal and bready aroma. Flavor initially some stale hops, heavy herbs and a tiny bit boozy.
3.6Bottle at Papsø.
Cloudy amber coloured with a small white head.
Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, liquorice, rye rbead and hops.
Fruity flavour of caramel, rye bread, hops, grass and pine needles.Dry hoppy finish.
3.4Bottled. Amber coloured. Unclear. Dense off white head. Bread, sweetness, fruits and light spice in the aroma. Flavour is light pinye, caramelly and fruity. Meidium bodied. Dry fruity bitterness in the end.
3.4Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin lazing orangey head. The aroma has notes of peaches, caramel, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, peaches, hops, dust, over ripe fruits, leading to a bitter and peachy finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
3.5Cloudy deep blond color. The body is lean, but the malt flavor is not strong enough; the hop is flowery and fruity, but it reminds me some camomile too. Pleasant, even if not impressive.
3.4Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours a hazy deep golden with an off-white head. Fat hop aroma, overripe fruit also. Medium body, a little low in carbonation, caramel and overripe fruit. Spicy but not overly bitter. 220909
3.6Decent beer, a good amount of fruit for an Ipa, with a fairly strong floral fruity aroma a solid orange pour w/ a full thick well laced head. In the end a nice beer, but not worth the pricetag.
3.722oz. bottle courtesy of brian23456. Thanks man!
Pours a hazy dark golden amber/copper color with dark golden orange hues when held to a light source. One finger off-white forth white head with good retention, eventually fading into a lasting ring and cap. Minimal streaks of soapy white lacing
Crisp citrus and earthy hop aroma. Nice caramel malt backbone. I’m not sure how old this bottle is but the smell is slowly approaching barleywine territory. There is a little bit of a lactic thing going on but nothing like Apocalypse Cow. Slightly piney and resinous.
Pleasantly more hop forward than the aroma would suggest. Resinous with a pretty chewy full body for the style. Citrus fruit, lemon peel, grapefruit, pineapple and pine notes with a slightly lactic presence and a nice dry finish. Extremely drnkable with no noticeable trace of alcohol. ABV is very well masked.
3.8From the Bottle at Dr Bill’s Tasting Falling Rock Tap House, Denver 10/10/2008
Very hoppy aroma. Golden coloured hoppy and fruity with a crisp bitter and slightly nutty flavoured finish.
3.822 ounce bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a thin head. Average head retention and lacing. Nutty aroma with caramel and citrus hop notes. Taste is bitter hop notes with citrus hops, caramel and toffee. The jasmine shows up in the end as a nondescript herbal spiciness. Even though this has some age there Medium bodied. Nice beer.
3.3Shared bomber from close to a year in cellar. Poured to a hi-ball glass about 6 oz. of an amber brew with a modest, off white foam that reduced to a film and bubbly ring and left little lacing. The aroma was caramel malt and brown sugar sweetness, and very little citrus and resin. The flavor was some mid-fruit notes and moderate to low hop bitterness. A radical fall off of hop influence with the 7% abv probably not strong enough to hold it together. Maybe one F short of FFF. I think we opened this past it’s prime but still tasty.
3.522 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small disappearing white head. The aroma was floral hops, some orange citrus, and moderately sweet malt. The flavor was citrus hops, herbal, light malt, caramel, with some resiny hints. The finish has some dry bitterness. I thought this seemed thinner and watered down compared to X, and came away slightly disappointed.
