Three Floyds / Mikkeller Risgoop

Three Floyds / Mikkeller Risgoop

Behold! The fifth collaborative effort of Three Floyds and Mikkeller. This complex ale is just the beverage for canal boat trips in Copenhagen or the brutal Chicago winter. This year’s offering will be brewed in both Europe and in Chicago. Look for both editions and the subtle differences in each. Cheers and thanks for supporting craft beer.

3.5 Tasted on 12/1/12 from a capped 22oz bottle. Pours clear yellow orange with a thick white head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is bitter with some yeast funk and plenty of hops and bread malt. The flavor plenty of hop bitterness, yeasty funk, along with sweet caramel and bread malt. The body is full and syrupy with lively carbonation and a long bitter hops and bread malt finish.
3.6 Backlog rating on 12-28-2012 (Bomber) This beer has a medium sized off-white mostly lasting head, hazy golden body, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, pine, grassy hops, and fruity. The flavor is light bitterness, caramel malt, pine hops, juicy, and a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium-full bodied. Overall, this taste different from other barleywines that I have had in the past. It has a very hoppy aroma and flavor. It is too hoppy tasting for me and is a beer for hop heads.
3.9 On tap from Mikkeller Bar @ Viktoriagade, CPH, DK. Hazy amber with off-white head. Loads of hops and malts, caramel, woody, tropical fruits. High bittersweetness with long bitter finish.
3.6 shared 75cl bottle with 2 friends. poured a clear blonde colour with a white head. fruity aroma, mango, sweet malts, toffee, lemons, floral hops, soft carbonation, apricots, have no idea what the use of the rice has done to this beer. but it a nice fruity barley wine for sure
3.7 650ml bottle. Bright, slightly cloudy, pale orangey, golden colour with late awakening, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, barely white head. Unusual hoppy aroma, hints of citrus fruit and vegetables, hints of kumquat, gherkin, other vague, apparently more tart than sweet fruit and vegetable notes; later with concentrated bitterness almost biting in the nose. Taste is moderately sweet malty, some bitter almond, some biting bitter hop, cautious fruity hints of mandarine, orange, orange zest; lasting bitter finish with almond and toffee malt basis, alcohol and bitter hop combine for a minimally biting mouthfeel. Relatively light and easy drinkable, (personally) tolerable malt basis, considerable hoppy counterweight. Anyway there’s a dizzy impression of lights going out with finishing the bottle.
4.3 Bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Golden, orangey colour with a great white head that leaves beautiful laces on my glass. Amazing aromas of tropical fruits, pine, honey and apricot. Taste is really complex. Great balance between fruit and hops. Medium body, low carbonation and alcohol well hidden. So many fruits in the start, almost sweet, but in the same time you can feel the hops and the bitterness in the end. Great taste palate so many things to taste. One of the bst beers I’ve ever drunk !
4.0 Backnote, had this beer at the zeebra extreem beer festival 2014. hoppy fruity
3.9 Solid barley wine. Malty and with notes of raisin and other sweet fruits. Nicely dry, bitter and fresh, instead of overly sweet.
3.8 @zebf 2014 - Golden, honeyed colour. Aroma is very fruity and malty - sweet. Initially it feels quite thick and lucious but it almost evaporates on the tongue. Dry finish with hints of bitter orange syrup.
3.7 At Zeebra Beer Festival, THX to everybody sharing today’s beers. APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, small unstable white head. NOSE: hoppy, fruity, florar. TASTE: hop, fruity, florar, decent, little dry aftertaste.
3.6 22oz bottle from the 3 floyds brewpub. Pours a clear gold with a large tan head. Sweet malt toffee and slight pine taste. Holds up well with some age.
4.4 One of the best barleywine style that I have ever tasted. Girlfriend, father in law and mother-in-law says that we can repeat this experience. Delicious.
3.4 Pour is cloudy orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is of grapefruit, pine needles, caramel toffee, and dough. Flavor is similar but with more hop flavors coming through - citrus, orange peel, tropical fruits. A bit of spice lingers.
3.7 Pours true golden with a thick khaki head that sticks around. Nose involves super sweet cereal, spice, and some citrus. Really sweet, somewhat bitter. Thick body, soft carb, no alcohol burn at all, sticky, with lengthy bitter finish. Interesting brew, pushing a year old I believe. Haven’t had fresh, but the hops definitely faded from what I’m told, and the strange rice krispies malt thing dominates at this age. A decent brew, though I probably would’ve enjoyed it fresher.
4.0 650ml bottle from Bierkompass.de Aroma of spices, apricot, dry fruits and some honey. Nice blond look with medium white head. Taste is fruity and good, not so zippy, alcohol is hidden. Good sourness and bitterness. Fine imperial ipa/barley wine.
3.9 Bottle shared by Tmoney99 (from notes). Pours a hazy golden orange color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor had caramel, with quite a bit of citrus, mango, tropical fruits, herbal notes, decent bitterness to the finish. This is a very hoppy barley wine that hides the abv between the sweetness and the hops.
3.7 Orange pour hazy soapy white head limited lacing. Fruity aroma cereal tangerine Graham crackers. Full well coated palate. Sweet fruity taste a fair amount of cereal lightly bitter well balanced finishes with a touch of pine. Pretty good.
4.1 0,75 l bottle as a gift. Cloudy orange amber one with a medium cremy off white head that melts down to a nice lacing one. A megaton of hops behind the huge maltiness, honey and resin, grain and pine, marmelade with grape and grapefruit. The taste starts with a rich, oily bodied grain bomb but after the fruity and sweet grainy wave the hop cunami numbling your palate. Some dry, lurking sourish character makes the flavor more intensive.
3.9 Bottle @ Christer. Clear orange, small white head, great lacing. Aroma, hoppy, fruity, citrus fruits, spicy. Taste, malty sweet, hoppy, fruity, citrus fruits. Great beer.
