Three Floyds Robert The Bruce

Three Floyds Robert The Bruce

A bold Scottish ale with a complex malty body derived from roasted and crystal malts balanced with just the right combination of hops. This ale pours a deep ruby color, has a sweet malty nose with layered caramel and roasted notes and a full body. Robust yet smooth, Robert The Bruce is a malt lover’s delight.

3.1 Don’t like it.
3.4 These Scottish styles, I don't have much to say. This was a very enjoyable beer, it is not super complex, but somehow it is balanced enough even though it is very malt forward. I don't recall how that was accomplished. On tap at Gino's East.
3.9 Draft at Tria Taproom. Deep mahogany pour with dense soft tan foam. Nice dark roast malts. Chocolate toffee caramels. Pecan pralines. Peat. Liquorice. Vanilla. Slight grassy bite in the finish. Excellent version of the style.
3.9 Great Scottish ale with a roasty malt aroma and flavor. Nice mahogany color and medium body. Caramel sweetness.
4.8 Nothing wrong with this scotich ale. A malt smell. Sweet and malty. Three Floyds makes some great beers and this is one of them. I like scotch ales. And this is one of them!
3.7 Medium dark cola brown, tan fizzy head. Caramel, toffee, toasted brown bread, hint of grass and earth. Solid. Bottle from the source, courtesy of Andy.
4.0 Atypical Scottish Ale.
3.6 Dark copper creamy head. Aromas toffee, caramel light hoppy grass. Flavors toffee, caramel, grass, slight cardboard. Medium to higher sweetness no aftertaste. Flavorful to very complex but good. Problly the best Scottish ale I've tried.
4.2 Coffee and chocolate aroma. Dark brown to black color. Medium heavy palate, alcohol thins palate. Raisin, licorice, coffee, cherry flavors.
3.8 Bottle from Timothy O’Toole’s. Pours dark brown with a khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Lots of toffee and malt notes on the nose and tongue. Finished clean. Very quaffable.
3.7 A dark brown beer with a creamy beige head. Aroma is Carmel, roasted, tobacco. Taste is caramel, burnt sugar, chocolate. A very nice Scottish
3.9 Slightly sweet brown sugar and roasted malt aroma. Very dark brown with a beige head. A little more hop/roast harshness in the taste than in the aroma but it works for balance.
4.0 Caramel. Earth. Toast. Dark caramel brown. Thick light tan dense foam head. Good retention. Thick lacing. Medium bodied. Slightly chewy. Caramel. Toast. Earth. Brown sugar. Really good.
4.0 12 ounce bottle purchased at Archer Liquors in Chicago, IL for $2.49 Very good!
3.9 Pours translucent brown with a thick buff head. Aroma offers roast malt, caramel, earthy and subtle cinnamon tones. Flavor features roast malt, earthy, nutty, cinnamon and caramel notes. Texture gives good body and peppy fizz. Get loose with Bruce!
3.3 Found from bottle from friend. The appearance is really enticing with its dark ruby color. Nice well-mixed aroma and malt tastes. Would drink again in the winter months.
3.5 Particularly nice Scots Ale. Big malt bill, with deep (not burnt) roasting. Great dark color. Frothy head. And just enough hops to keep it from getting too sweet.
3.2 Nice caramelized malt backbone with some traditional peaty Scottish notes. Smooth, low tartness. Roasted cereals.
4.0 On tap at Maria's Packaged Goods and Community bar Chicago. Fruity dark ale. I mean I don't know if this anything to do with Scotland but it's pretty damn good. Strawberry jam aroma solid malt in mouth then a hoppy finish. Really good
3.6 I was a little disappointed with this beer. I was expecting bigger and bolder flavors out of it, and it was almost too drinkable. There wasn’t anything that made me think about the beer or really notice it. It was a pretty bland scotch ale.
3.9 Slightly smoky pecan nose. Clear brown, thick yellow head. Cocoa, date, smoke, bread crust. Medium body, easy carbonation. Wonderful layers of complexity.
3.7 Dark brown/ruby color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted sweet malt, peat/wood, caramel, & some fruit; Flavor of slight roasted malt, caramel/syrup, dark fruit, some chocolate, and spice; Pretty decent.
3.7 Solid scotch that may be a tad overrated? Pours brown w/ a razor thin head & good lacing. The aroma is primarily caramel. The flavor is a crisp caramel that is slightly dry. It's very well balanced & quite smooth. Really nice overall!
3.7 Dark amber brown. Smells and tastes malty. Sweet maltiness. Underfermented Malt bomb that actually works well. Dry. Thanks Seymour for this treat!
4.0 Aroma is toasted moat, with sweet notes of caramel. Pours clear and dark copper red with minimal head. Sweet taste with toffee, and caramel before the malts take over. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. Slick texture with a dry, boozy finish
4.0 Shared from 12oz brown bottle into nonic half-pint glasses, thanks Jake! It poured a near-opaque deep reddish brown colour with sudsy beige foam, lasting with lace. Rich malty sweet, caramel, toffee, root beer. Full body, big chewy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Nice alcoholic strength, warming, but no hot fusel alcohols. A very tasty Americanized Scottish ale. Good stuff.
3.9 Nose is light scotch style grain. Flavor is the same. This isn't over hopped but hopped enough to enjoy. Hop profile adds to sweetness. Very balanced Scottish ale.
3.7 Pint glass from the source. Deeper amber/mahogany color with light tan head. Aroma is malty and has some mild dark fruit qualities. Taste is malt forward with caramel and toffee notes. Mild dark fruit characteristic coming through. Very low bitterness. Strong example of the style. You may take our lives but you will never take our...opportunity to have this again.
3.5 Robe brune avec une jolie mousse beige malheureusement peu persistante. Arômes malté, fumé, tourbé. Goût caramel et malté. Carbonatation fine et abondante. Texture légèrement sirupeuse. Bonne bière.
3.9 12 oz bottle poured, with a massive thanks to Chris for the bottle. Any time I get to try a top rated beer from a style, I’m in. Dark copper brown pour with a thick, cream foam head. Toasty, slightly sweet caramel aroma. Flavor is a good roasted malt, paired with a slightly sweet rich caramel. Slight plastic. Some vanilla. Thick body. Pleasant cream. A delicious beer for the style. Pretty sure it deserves the top spot in the style. Excellent.
