Thwaites Wainwright (Cask)

Thwaites Wainwright (Cask)

Cask: Regular

Originally brewed by Thwaites, the brand was contract brewed at Marston’s Wolverhampton plant (Banks’s) from 2013, then bought completly by Marston in March 2015. The brand continues to be sold under the Thwaites name and logo.

Brewed as one of the celebratory beers for Thwaites bi-centenary. Named after Alfred Wainwright, the renowned Lakeland author who was born in Blackburn in 1907.

A refreshing straw-coloured beer with soft fruit flavours and a hint of sweetness from the fine malt.

3.4 Cask at The Wainwright Pub. Pours a clear light gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has lots of straw and hay with a hint sweet grains underlying. Flavor combines crisp straw and hay with touches of sweetness and grass backing.
3.4 Surprised this is only just over 3 by others. Very nice session pale.
3.1 Cask at the Calthorpe Arms, London on 12th April 2019. Golden amber with virtually no foam to speak of. Light caramel malt aroma. Malty in-mouth with soft fruits, these two foci combining into a medium sweet blended finish. Smooth mouthfeel and a moderate body.

3.5 Thwaites Wainwright Golden Ale 4.1%. Golden, grassy aroma, light bodied, biscuit malt, lightly citrus, earthy. Light Golden Ale from the Lakes
3.2 I had this after drinking the Lancaster Bomber from the same brewery. It was beautifully served in a Thwaites pub (Old Queen's Head, Sheffield), but it suffered by comparison and, though it went down well, it tasted a bit characterless. For me, a routine ale.
3.2 Golden pale colour. Taste is soft pale malts and light fruity with soft hints of hops. Light carbonation and body. Classic cask pale ale
3.4 A rare cask review thanks to it coming as part of an afternoon tea at The Swan at Stafford. Can see why it is in so many pubs. Its quite refreshing without having any real flavour. Will not offend anyone and will not excite anyone. A true middle of the road beer that hopefully I will only drink once in my life.

3.3 As far as session English golden ales go on tap this is a well crafted ale - no big flavours here but a clean, fresh balanced malty ale with plenty of body. I detected a slight corny taste but i feel it blended in nicely. Dont compare this to the bottle, they’re leagues apart.
3.1 Cask in The Hesketh Arms, Southport, England. A light straw-coloured beer with an off white head. Aroma of sweet fruit and roasted malt. Smooth, fruity taste with low bitterness. O.K. for a Golden Ale. Light but not too interesting.
