Tilquin Oude Pinot Noir à l'Ancienne

Tilquin Oude Pinot Noir à l'Ancienne

Beer of spontaneous fermentation, the Oude Pinot Noir Tilquin à l’ancienne is made from the fermentation of 350 gr of Pinot Noir grapes by liter of lambic. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, this beer is refermented in the bottle. The Pinot Noir grapes are coming from the Valentin Zusslin Estate, cultivated in biodynamic viticulture and harvested by hand on their Bollenberg vineyard. This special cuvée was developed at the occasion of the 10 year anniversary of the Moeder Lambic Original.

4.1 Funky tart aroma in an amber copper pour. Sublimely smooth and rich funky fruit body and moreish tart finish. Another to-die-for sour beer from Tilquin (and no surprise there I guess).
4.1 [2019-2020] 750ml bottle. Clear deep amber with a foamy white head. Flavors are lemon, grapes, funk, oak and earth with tart, acetic and mineral notes. Light to medium body, good carbonation, slick texture.
4.0 My last one from this Summer’s visit at Arlo, nice burgundy wine aging, great complexity, a good try. Shared with family at supper, while eating a nice homemade pho.
4.3 Bottle thanks to Craig. Pours cloudy ruby with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is funk, grape skin, oak. Thin body, funky, grape, oak, nice tartness, light dry finish, enjoyed this.
3.9 Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to a snifter displaying a hazed, amber hue, a modest layer of soft white froth that reduced to a thin ring, with minimal spots of lacing. The nose was funk & floral, with esters as dark grape & berries. Close to medium bodied, the taste was similar notes, with a decent blend of alerting tartness, and effervescence that was quite seltzer-like. The finish offered some pleasant dryness.
3.7 Reddish amber and hazy with no head. Strong smell of lambic beer, vinegar and yeast notes. Strong lambic taste with a note of tannins from the grapes.
4.4 An expensive bottle I had at home. This is not what I was expecting out of this. Very dry and hasn't got the grape flavour that I thought it would have. Very sour though. As I drank more of this I found all the grape flavour started coming out and became more enjoyable
4.3 Pours a cloudy, deep red amber coloration with a small, fizzy head that soon fades to a wispy ring around the glass and slightly visible carbonation. Smells of light doughy malt and aromas of ripe, sweet red grapes and tannic oak, as well as hints of estery fruit and musty funk. Taste is an excellent balance of light doughy malt, a distinct character of ripe, sweet and sour red grapes, strong notes of old, musty oak, with some rather tannic highlights, lighter, fruity esters of tart green apple, pear, strawberry and gooseberry, as well as some leathery, blue cheese funk and a good underlying acidity, with just a hint of balsamic vinegar. Finishes quite dry with a medium tartness and some red grape, tannic oak and leathery funk lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent, sparkling mouthfeel with a medium body and strong carbonation. An excellent Lambic that is very much dominated by a vibrant red grape presence and distinctly oaky and tannic notes, lending a certain red wine character to this, which is highlighted by its rather dry finish and accents of fruity esters, with the rich, leathery funk playing into this as well. While there is just a hint of sweetness to it, it's rather dry and acidic overall, with a certain tannic bitterness as well, making it feel just a little harsh in the finish, which doesn't take away from the rich complexity and harmonious balance of flavours though. While I think that I prefered Pinot Gris' softer and more refreshing flavour profile, this has more richness of flavour and bite to it, perhaps making it a bit more suited to be had in front of a nice fireplace in the evening, rather than outside on a warm summer day.
5.0 Bottle shared at yorkie panzio. Pink colour small white lacing. Nose is grape, funk, berries. Taste is low sourness, dry mouthfeel, berries, creamyness. Creamy but dry, woody berries. Omnomnom.
3.9 Bottle 750ml @ yngwie Pours hazy reddish golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, funk, horseblanket, red wine, grapes and tartness. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium sour with a long dry, funky, tart, fruity and grapes finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.
4.3 Bottle 0.75l from Geuzerie Tilquin, taste at home 11.07.2020. Bottle 2018. Pour it golden red color with small white head. Aroma nice grapes, funy tart barnyard note. Taste nice funky note, grapes really pleasent, smooth tart finish, really good balanced, grapes in the after taste, awesoem pinot gris and pinot noir series. Can't wait to try Riesling.
4.4 Fruitig stevig bier. Volle smaak. Goede neus. Altyd een aanrader
3.4 75 cl fles. Donker oranjekleurig bier zonder schuim. Geur: hout, lichte vernis, geuze, wat framboos. Smaak: zuur, azijnzuur, citrus, hout, tannine, licht vineus. Matige koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: droog, zuur. Iets te veel azijnzuur voor mij.
3.6 [10952-20180929] Bottle. Soured fruity yeast aroma. Hazy, light pink red body with no lasting head. Soured fruit flavour. Medium body is sour. Good. (7/3/7/4/15) 3.6 (Zwanze Day 2018 @ Birreria Volo, Toronto, ON)
4.2 75 cl. corked botle, bought at Belgian Beer an d Food, 2018. servec at home in a stem glass. Clear amber colour, small head that fades soon, leaving some lacing. Aroma is funky, leather, grapes, vinegar, wood, some citrics. Medium body, oily texture, normal carbonation. Tart finish. Taste of vinegar, grapes, acid apples, wood, well, just like the aroma. A great complex beer. In the end is just brwon due to the amount of lees, that yu can even hear fizzing when serving the last pour.
3.4 Bottle. Clear pinkish orange body with almost no head. Aroma has wood, fruit in general, farmhouse and vinegar. Taste is quite acidic, fruit, grapes and bitter stone from grapes. Nice aroma, refreshing acidic flavor but honestly, I was a bit disappointed here for the first time with Tilquin. Might have very high expectations due to previous experiences and the high price, but it did not live up to that.
4.3 750ml bottle from Private Import and shared with Laurianne. Aroma: lots of red grapes coming through, lots of hay, barnyard, some green apples too maybe? Quite funky nose. Alp' murky orange with slightly brown tint, minimal white head with little lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, high carbonation, almost fizzy, moderate acidity finish. Overall: great stuff. Love the red wine barrel. It really changes the base beer! Just sad it's my only bottle. Oh well. At least I enjoyed it for a good reason, Easter in quarantine. Great
4.0 Bottle: Poured a dark golden color lambic with a medium size foamy head with light retention and not much lacing. Aroma of funky barnyard notes with some tart notes and oak is enjoyable. Taste is also a mix of barnyard funky with some tart notes, some oak and light acidic notes. Pinot noir notes are not as dominant as I was expecting with light vinous notes are perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable as usual for Tilquin but Pinot Noir notes were not as perceptible as I was expecting.
4.3 Funky and cheesy aroma, horse blanket, wood, sweet, soft, tart, not as sour as expected, fruity, grapes, dry, strong finish, thx Robert S.🍇
4.1 Bottle. Killer funky brett nose, pinot grapes, orse blanket, leather, oak. Hazy orange-pink with a low head. Dusty, funky flavor, raisin, grape, horse blanket, lemon, grapefruit, huge brett.
3.7 Big thank you to Erzengel for sharing! Nearly copper in the glass. Nice tard smell. Smooth fruity sourness at the start. Sour apples. Increasing pale grain with some nuts. Very nice.
4.0 750ml corked and caged green bottle. 2018 vintage. (7.8% ABV) Pours a hazy amber-red with a thin, fizzy, short lived, white head that leaves spotty lacing. Aroma of funky yeast, goat, leather, red berries, red grapes, red wine and oak. Sweet fruity flavour of wheat, red grapes, red berries, vinegar, red wine, lime, green apple, leather, funky yeast and oak in a crisp, dry, tart, acidic finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and lively carbonation. Excellent. Lots of complexity, yet refreshing and easy to drink.
4.1 Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Fine sourish woody aroma. Starts intense woody-sourish, more and more fruity notes of lemon, grapefruit. Sour-bitter background. Finish well balanced, tartness a bit softer. Really nice!
4.2 Bottle pour at Weathered, pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with barnyard funk, leather and dry vinous notes. Flavour is musty and vinous, with lots of wood, barnyard funk, leather and dry red wine. Love the dryness and funk character. Beauty.
3.9 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with light head. Aromas and flavors of peach, sharp musty grape, Brett and wheaty malts.
3.9 Taster on Weathered. Appearance: murky golden with some red ish color. Aroma: amazing fruitiness and bareel, some funk. Taste: quite acidic, more funk, but along the same lines. Overall: good one.
4.0 Bottle shared by a friend. Hazy pink pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt, cracked black pepper, tart fruit and light wine. Malt and wine flavor with berry and lemon accents before a black pepper finish.
3.7 Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for sharing. Fantastic sour nose. The beer starts sourish fresh. Easy to drink, intense fruity sourish plums. Easy to drink, nice smooth sourness with a very well balanced acidity. Woody plums in the end, fruity with a nice intense fruity sourness. Great!
4.6 75cl bottle. A slightly hazy dark golden beer with a beige lacing. Aroma of sour grapes, red berries, apple skin, funk. Taste of sour red berries, grapes, red wine, vinegar. Fascinating!
4.2 750 ml bottle shared by Cory - thanks again, Cory! Pours a consistently cloudy rose color with no head. Notes of oak, earth, grape skins, vanilla, funk, and florals. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a tart, fruity, balanced mouthfeel. Subtle and satisfying.
