4.2 LCI.
4.0 Botella. Black in colour. Nice big light brown head. Roasted maltiness in the aroma along with fruity hops, chocolate, liquorice notes. Good palate. Sweet pleasant roasty malty fruity hoppy chocolate liquorice. Good above medium bitterness. Hides the alc. well. Tasty brew indeed.
Aningen alkohol. Inte så tokig.
3.9 Bottle, 33 cl @home. Pours a opaque black with a light brown frothy head. Dark malts in the nose with milky coffee and chocolate. Black currant in the background. Taste is tart, boozy and sharp. Unriped apples, some milky dark chocolate and strong coffee. Smooth mouthfeel and a medium carbonation and medium bitterness.
3.8 Beer @ tasting fillepolo 23/4-21. Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted malty with coffee and hops. Body is medium, the finish is roasted with hops.
Torr avslutning.
4.1 Pitch black with small brownish head. Smell of citrus and coffee. Taste starts with a strong taste of grapefruit, then evaporates moving into classic hops and then turns into coffee and dark chocolate. Nice rounded bitterness. A real taste experience. Tasted with Niels. Bargain from Kvickly, Odder
4.1 Aroma of grapefruit, hops, coffee And mild chocolate Pitch black with small head Taste of grapefruit and bitter citrus, followed by ground coffee and very dark raw chocolate Smooth thin mouthfeel with low carbonation A really odd beer that pulls off the combination of coffee and hops elegantly. Tasted at home with my dad on a fridag afternoon
4.0 Black with beige head. Aroma is intense herbal hops with some figs and coffee. Dense malty body with hints of cocoa vanilla and of course much chocolate. Taste is sweet chocolate with intense bitter chocolate and light herbal type hops. Bonbon and chocolate aftertaste with somewhat spicy tingling booze. Maybe a tad too much bitter hops on the tongue... Very complex. Very well rounded. Unexpectedly awesome.
4.2 Pours a very deep, dark brown coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of roasted malt, chocolate, coffe and lighter resinous, citrus hops and hints of licorice and leather. Taste is a great balance of quite roasted malt and bitter, slightly resinous, citrussy hops, with some chocolate, coffee and licorice standing out particularly, as well as lighter ash, tobacco leather, grapefruit and pine. Finishes with a very strong bitterness and some chocolate, coffee, licorice and grapefruit lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation. I would just love to know how old this is exactly, as I cannot find any kind of date on the bottle, but I suspect that it's a bit older than it ideally should be, as the balance seems to have shifted towards the malts just a little here. Even so, there's still a considerable bitterness to this, which perhaps shouldn't be that surprising for a 120 IBU brew, while the citrus and pine notes seem to be struggling against the roasted, chocolate malts just a bit by now. Nevertheless, this still makes for an excellent, uncompromising Black IPA that's incredibly roasted and bitter, almost peaty, with burnt ash and tobacco accents and strong chocolate and coffee notes, as well as just enough citrus and pine to keep things interesting. Even though this is probably slightly past its prime, there's still a great balance left in this, which is impressive, although I would have loved to taste it really fresh, with those pine resins coming through more intensely. Fantastic body and mouthfeel to this as well and while the ABV is noticeable, it never feels too boozy. Overall score has been adjusted slightly upward to make up for its age, although I highly suspect that I would rate this even higher fresh.
3.6 Bottle 0.33l from Toøl webshop. 05.02.2021. Pour it dark color with small white head. Aroma nice roasted malt. Taste light coffee, light toaste nuts, pretty nice balanced malty and hoppy character good balanced.
4.4 Day 9 of Mane Liquor Advent Calendar 2020 and a return to one of my favourite breweries over the past decade. Into a snifter at just on chilled. Settles a still, ruby cola brown and shimmering in the lights. Head no more than an inch of remarkably well held loose tannish suds that lace wickedly. Aroma is dank, forest floor, pungent red-wood and oaken wood dust, eucalypt and pine-wood, damp ochre, alkaline metal and rust, rich dark chocolate and soft vanilla with some licks of caramelised coffee bean - morish! Full and thick on the palate. Viscous and long. Wow, wish I had some warning as the aroma and appearance gave nothing away. Sweet, spicy, BITTER! Notes of Bovril, chargrilled beef a little left untendered, shitake mushroom sautéed and heather hit mid-palate. Ash, tobacco, rich tar, fresh strapped leather and a weird sense of squid ink late. Tarrish and resinous length leaving the only thing missing is a cup of coffee!? Rather alkaline and mineral-like, but burdened by that sticky depth and big body. 120 IBU's just manages to harbour the depth of umami, earthiness and charred nuances. Boozy, I cannot lie. A bit of burnt plum plays in late. This hits far above its belt, yet is just shy of 10 per cent. Phew, need an Islay single malt to refresh the palate. F%&ken loved this. BIG shout out to Mane Liquor for supplying this one. Merry Christmas! (33cL,
4.0 Ar: coffee, roasted malt, fruity Ap: black, dark brown creamy head T: med/high bitterness, malty, fruity P: thick body, smooth alcohol feel
3.5 330 ml bottle from Beer Hawk, bb 04/11/2024 Very dark brown, nearly black, beige head, nice lacing. Nose - coffee, citrus, toasted malts perhaps - all very weak, disappointing. Taste - coffee (mostly), umami.
4.2 Bottle from the brewery Webshop. Dark brown beer with a huge light brown head, very foamy. Bitter coffee nose, citrus aromatic, great. Flavor is silky smooth, not too sweet, perfectly balanced. Big smooth bitterness with citrus highlights and earthy hints. Great mild coffee flavor, one of the best coffee based beers I've had.
4.2 Bottle from Deconinck. Pours hazy black with a stable, foammy, beige head; some lacing. Aroma of coffee roast, fondant, black tea, toast, dried tobacco, prune, salted peanut, teriyaki, black pepper, lemon. Taste has sweet prune, nuts & mocha; pink grapefruit introducing a bitter core of coffee ground, tea leaves & a soft salty-umami teriyaki edge, a bit lemony sour even. Dry, earthy hoppy finish, more pronounced tobacco, coffee & dried black tea leaves, bit boozy coffee liqueur-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very complex BIPA, really enjoyable.
4.7 Helsted - beautiful very Nice Black IPA ;-)
3.8 Bottle. Pitch black with thick beige head. Aroma is balance of dark coffee notes and fruity hops. Rich and uncompromising. Medium dry with moderate-high bitterness. Well-masked alcohol. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Good!
3.3 Dark like coffee with a frothy beige head. Smell of coffee, chocolate, caramel and cherry. In taste cold coffee, a strong bitterness and salt. Smells much better than it tastes.
4.1 33 cl fles.
3.7 Molt poca IPA, molt black!
3.8 Bottle 33cl. Pours black, long lasting thin head. Let's be honest first, that beer is really weird, a beer to absolutely taste in life. Malty, light coffee, herbal, à strong taste of rose, or flowers. Mid-heavy bitterness fighting with sweatness
4.5 Somehow never got round to writing a full review of this, even though it's one of the best black IPAs I've had! Pours a nice black colour with a light sheen of cream-coloured head. Aroma is very malty, lots of chocolate and coffee, some caramel, some hops, earthy and herbal. Medium to big body. Flavour is malty and quite sweet, hoppy and herbal immediately as well. Lots of dark malts with chocolate and roasted barley being prominent, some coffee and caramel. I've had this longer than others and the hoppiness is a bit more subdued, but still really hoppy and nicely bitter. Long bittersweet finish with chocolate and herbal hops. Lovely BIPA and supremely drinkable.
4.3 Poznań, ul. Niegolewskich
4.3 Astoundingly balanced Black Ipa. Murky dark brown pour with an espresso beige head that leaves a lacing. Aroma of mid-high intensity shows tobacco and coffee upfront with a backbone of clear resin and some lemongrass. In the mouth, perfect equilibrium between sweet malty notes, roasted coffee notes and tonic water bitterness. Every step of the tasting reaches a another distinct climax. A tad sticky. Long aftertaste. An incredible beer for my 900th rating!
