4.6 As much as I like the heavy hitters, I also like the nuanced. This is a prime example of the latter. I can’t taste the chilis outright, but believe I’d notice them if they were missing. The body is divine; so velvety. This beer is a true pleasure to drink.
3.9 From tap. Black color with brown head. Malty aroma, roasted, chocolate, dark fruits, alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste. Almost full oily body with soft carbonation.

4.2 Draught at Mikkeller Bangkok. Black colour with a small, neat brown head. The aroma is not excessive, there is chocolate and coffee with a hint of chilli and cognac, a little woody. The flavour is sweet with roasted malt, bitter chocolate, cognac, with a light chilli burn. A little smoky. Surprisingly balanced, a really good beer.

4.0 Bottle at home, 13th June 15. Pours elegant black. Aroma is liquorice, slight coffee, booze, barrel. Taste is rich, liquorice heavy malts, slight ash, barrel, some liquor. Palate feels slightly light for the ABV. Good, Sherry version has the edge
4.2 from Erzbierschof - blackbeer with a persistent dark beige foam; roasted aroma of black chocolate, wood and cherries; full-bodied, a solid sweetness, thick, moderate carbonation and a huge bitterness; very long chocolatey finish with hints of coffee, cognac and a fair presence of wood

3.8 Black as night. Dark brown head. Roasted and boozy aroma. Taste: coffee, dark chocolate, lots of cognac and too much booze. Meh.. Expected a much better beer. Paid 10 euros for 1 bottle. Overpriced.
4.0 Firm dark brown, with a decent ringed tan. Soft spicy apple, firm cinnamon. Initial taste is soft dark malt, orbits around a neat burnt apple roast and clean peppery grit. Carbonation is soft, welcoming and soft mouthfeel. The ABV fades past nicely, softly sweet finish. Linger is gritty spicey apple. Bottle, Whole Lotta Rosie Tasting

4.3 Bottle shared with daje and ed at The "Esp0r #2000 Weekend in The Woods" 2014 Pours quite dark, thin tanned head. Smell of cognac, dark malts, roast, fruity malts, oak and coffee. Rich and complex. Heavy sweet, perfect cognac and coffee harmony, dark malts, roast, booze, oak, chocolate. A very complex and rich flavor palate. Extremely oily texture, flat carbonation full bodied, moderate bitter. An exquisite beer for sure
3.9 Pours a really dark brown with a small beige head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of chocolate, booze, coffee and cognac. Taste is of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and no ash hopefully. Heavy coffee action and not too boozy. Body is medium-full, carbonation soft. Overall a really good sipper, less intense on the cognac than I thought it would be.
4.1 Shared bottle. Black with big but fast disappearing beige head. Marzipan, peach, milk chocolate, some cognac, brown sugar, quite some spices with vanilla and cinnamon. Light chili burn in the finish. Quite sweet, medium to full bodied. Nice!
3.5 Black oil pour, tan foam. Aroma is earthy spice, dark malts. Flavours are very sweet syrup, chilli heat, mild oak, dark fruits. Big flavours but not really very full bodied. Classic Continental impy. Very drinkable, nice level of heat, just wish there was more character here.
4.1 Black color with beige head. Aetherial Cognac, bitter chocolate, spices. Taste is chocolate, spices, grapes, dark fruits. Leather and tobacco, a hint of liquorice. Carbonation is still high, but extremely fine. A very elegant, creamy and warming Imperial Stout. The spices are much more dominant in the BA version.

3.7 Bottle. Black in color with a tan head. At first some dark chocolatemousse and roasted coffee notes in aroma. There’s also some wooden notes mixed with dark fruityness in the background. Feels quite smooth. Roasted malts, bit of biting spicyness and sweet syrup is present in taste. Together with a nice and quite soft burning warmness from the chili you also get some notes of burnt wood and notes of cognac in the end.
3.6 0,375L bottle (from bierkompass.de). Pours black with brown head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is dark chocolate, cognac, alcohol, chili. Flavor is sweet, dark chocolate, coffee, chili, cognac, oak. Overall: very nice brew.
3.5 Black beer, small brown head. Nose is roast, chocolate notes and some booze. Flavor is roast and cocoa dust, chili, some woody notes, light on the cognac. Very drinkable for the ABV, but the whole package is a bit disappointing. Shared by martjoobolut, thanks!
