To Øl / Mikkeller Sleep Over Coffee IIPA

To Øl / Mikkeller Sleep Over Coffee IIPA

English: The sequel to the Mikkeller/To Øl collab "Overall IIPA".
The same beer but with tons of nice nutty aromatic espresso coffee. This is hybrid beer if ever seen one. The combination of fruits and citrus from the hops and the round coffee aromas plus the warmth of the alcohol makes this a clash of a IIPA, Black IPA, American strong and Barley Wine.
Cheers!

2.4 330ml bottle. Oxidation notes, sweet and boozy, coffee is bitter. This is a mess.
4.2 Tap at Global Brew O’Fallon. This was very opaque and bright golden orange. Cool looking. Aromas of tropical fruit and green coffee. Big hops are tasted with citrus and tropical and they seem very fresh. The green coffee beans are a bit behind and add very nicely. These all compliment and make for a really nice sipping beer.
3.7 Strong coffee. Chocolate and hops on the nose. Cloudy Amber color. No head to speak of.
4.1 Bottle: pours a hazy dark orange with a smallish white head. Aromas are citrusy and bready. Bathe flavor is amazingly complex.... Citrus and coffee... Bready. The coffee comes through subtlety, but is a wonderful compliment. Man... This is delicious.
4.4 Poured at tasting, a cloudy darker amber. I really can’t pick out a flavor in the aroma or taste dept. Amazingly complex. In the aroma i get some coffee but not dark roast maybe green beans. Some hay, straw and malts. The taste is amazing, it has citrus IPA tones at its coldest and more earth as it warms. Coffee becomes stronger in the finish esp in the aftertaste. Syrupy in mouth feel. Wonderful, complex, interesting.
3.9 Ins Glas ergießt sich ein trübes dunkelbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv hopfig malzig, fruchtig, Kaffee. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig herb, stark fruchtig, intensive Bitterkeit, bitterer Kaffee.
3.7 Some time back we had a number of visitors staying with us. For fun, they took turns going out and picking up varieties of beer. I kept notes about what we thought about each, but can not find them anywhere. I did find a bag of empties from that time period, so thought I would at least record those w/o commet and ratings from memory. This is one of those. (When I do find the notes it will be interesting to see how close I came)
4.0 Keg at Friends of Ham, Leeds. (Really need to get round to reviewing that place soon). Pours hazy amber with a big off-white head. Looks weiss-y actually, but the smell takes all that perception away. Big, green, unroasted coffee bean aromas. HUGE. Amazing. Like I imagine walking through a coffee plantation smells like, hands wide, crushing as you go. Taste has a good whack of bitterness in the back. An enjoyable shared half, more might be excessive.
3.7 caramel, toast, nuts, roasty, spruce, floral, cloudy, heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness, heavy cloying sweetness, medium sourness, medium body, creamy, average carbonation,
3.5 Keg at Friends of Ham, Leeds, Saturday 15th February 2014. Pours hazy puddle brown with slim off-white head. Soft in mouth, coffee shows but sweet malts and zappy hops all bring their own elements to the party, finish is dry and robustly citrussy. Some sweet grapefruit and pithy lemon. Really nice. 3.8 Okay. This is an interesting one. It doesn?t lack in substance in any category. Full of flavour Strong bouquet. Good mouth feel. Looks beautiful. With that said I don?t necessarily care for the way it tastes. I do give high marks flavour wise because I do recognize the complexity. However not my cup of tea. Update: What the fuck was I thinking? This shit tastes great.
4.2 To øl og mikkeller. Sleep over coffee IIPA. 10,5 % humlet med simcoe, centennal og amarillo. pris 43 KR. Duft: frugt passionsfrugt citrus Kaffe. Smag: kaffe humle sødme bitterhed fra humlen og en kraftig smag af simcoe. en smule tør i smagen og lidt noder af røg som nok kommer fra kaffen
4.2 Appearance is a nice orangey-deep tan body with full cream colored head that smells great and has decent retention. Aroma is of floral hoppiness and light sweet coffee, I also get some caramel type sweetness. The taste hides the 10.5% extremely well. I had to look at the bottle again to check the ABV. Again with the caramel/coffee sweetness alongside the great malt balance, and great earthy/floral hop character. Mouthfeel is creamier than most IPAs and it doesn’t dance on the tongue like IPAs do. I was worried about this beer being out of date, and I almost cellared this for a year to push it towards a coffee barley wine. The bottle top had a date of 8-2-14, which is over a year away, so I doubt that’s a best by date. Anywho, my first Mikkeller offering and I wasn’t disappointed. Not a stellar as the Dayman coffee IPA, but still extremely enjoyable. I look forward to coffee IPAs being a standard.
3.7 Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe. Murky burnt tangerine pour with a small eggshell cap. Very fruity with dark berry, meat, and skin prominent. Caramel, toffee, and honey providing a sweeter backbone. Mild, but noticeable coffee undertones and a grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Not a bad beer, just wish the coffee was more pronounced.
3.9 Draft at Brouwer’s. Poured into a snifter, hazy amber with some lacing. Aroma: whoa coffee inviting. Also floral and piney hops.. Taste: coffee is really nice in this! Moderate hop bitterness. Some oxidation, but it’s well-placed. Slick texture, full body, average carbonation. Overall: comes together at least as well as stone’s dayman IPA. Yum. 8.5/4.5/8/4/16
4.0 Bottle at Mikkeller Bar Viktoriagade, july 17th 2013. Hazy orange body, medium creamy beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, peach, caramel and coffee. Roasted coffee taste with fruity hops in a nice combination, good malt sweetness balanced with a high bitterness both from hops and coffee. Works very well. Long roasty and fresh finish, a nice beer!
4.1 Bottle from the Bayou. Pouts brown with an inch of white foam. When I read the description I was dubious, but after the first sip I said "My god! They’ve pulled it off." Nice coffee notes on the nose less of the roasted kind and more of the brewed variety. Nice coffee notes on the tongue with a bug burst of bitterness to clean things up. Nice!
4.1 270913. Bottle at Nordic, Tampere. Pours hazy copper with a small head. Aroma hops, alcohol, coffee. Smooth impy taste with a hint of coffee. Works better than expected. Not Bad.
4.1 Wow - this is delicious. Right up my alley. Imperial pale ale with citra notes pounded with coffee. Would love to try this on draft.
3.9 Average sizez, creamy head; leaves a wide, compact film. Amber color, hazy, cloudy body. Aroma is slightly hoppy: fruits, resin, pineapple and coffee. Body is moderate, carbonation is low; mouthfeel is creamy, thick, strong. Finish is long and bitter. Taste is slightly coffee, fruity, smoothly bitter. Complex and very well balanced.
3.5 0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. A cloudy deep caramel colored beer with lots of floaters and a small heavy lacing off-white top. It definitely has an interesting aroma. Well hoppy with lots of real bitter and almost pungent citrus zest, some ripe berries, almonds and the coffee actually hits you way back in the nose. A really different one, and I like it. Love the flavors here. It has a dark roasted malty flavor, really pleasant. The mouthfeel is good oily and the carbonation level is just below average. The coffee shines through as does salmiakk, ripe blue and purple berries and a nice hoppy bitterness. A really tasty one! 08.06.2013
3.5 Bottle. Color dark orange with medium head. Aroma malt, coffee, hop, orange. Taste malt, sweet, coffee, caramel, hop.
2.6 12 ounce sample on tap at The Press Club in San Francisco. The aroma has some vinous, ethanolic notes, which are soon swallowed by a big waft of coffee. Very unique aroma, but not sure if that’s good. Moderately hazy orange body with a creamy, off-yellow head. Great lacing present. Starts sweet, sticky, and vinous. Lots of heavy, buttery and butterscotch diacetyl here. This diacetyl cannot even be masked with the coffee flavor. Warming. A flawed beer that is worsened by the attempt to hide the flaw.
3.3 12oz bottle shared. owner said this was about a year old knowing that ipa’s dont fair very well we drank anyways. poured a murking brownish color not very appealling. but got the distinct aroma of coffee and hops. the flavor was a bit thin but you could take both the coffee and the hops. i was ok with it but would like to try fresher to see if there was any difference.
3.8 Interesting earthy hops aromas, pine, citrus and the added roasted coffee notes really make it unique. It pours a deep orange/ light brown color with light head retention. The taste is like somebody hopped the hell out of my coffee. It has some real nice bitterness, a little bit of sweetness up front and some umami. It is medium to full bodied and has some warmth to it as well from the high ABV. It’s more like a black IPA than a regular but this beer couldn’t fit neatly into any category.
3.7 Keg at Friends of Ham. Pours a deep orange, with a finger of head. Aroma is resinous hops, grass and coffee, with a little touch of cinnamon or something earthy underneath. Taste is good, too, hoppy, caramely, earthy and with a nice coffee thing going on there too. The coffee’s not underplayed to the extend that it’s unnoticeable, but equally it far from dominates, it’s really nicely done. Impressive and mature.
3.8 Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. Pours a deep hazy orange body with a medium off-white head. Aroma is piney grass notes, grapefruit, melon, then coffee and cardamom sort of sneaking in from behind. Pretty cool. Taste is pine, grass, coffee, resin, hints of herbs and melon. Slick full body, medium carbonation. Original and tasty.
3.3 Flaske delt med Aske på Søernes Ølbar: mye ipapreg og litt kaffe, masse kick og punch. This is your wake up call.
3.6 Bottle. Deep golden colour with an off- white head. Aroma is chocolate, pine, grapefruit, malt. Flavour is chocolate, pine, grapefruit, orange, malt, coffee, alcohol. Full body. Nice beer.
3.0 Pours a hazy golden color with a significant white head that lasts and lasts. Citrus aroma with a bit of coffee but not as much as I was expecting. The coffee and the hops don’t go badly together, but this beer has a lot of flavor. It has a pretty strong aftertaste and is a bit syrupy in the mouth. An interesting beer for sure, but maybe not one at the top of my list to try again.
