Toccalmatto / Prairie Okie Matilde

"When Chase Healey from Prairie Artisan Ales came for a visit, we brewed this Brett Belgian Ale, paying homage to a world famous Trappist ale, to the legend of Matilda of Tuscany and the connection between Canossa and Orval Abbey, and Chase’s state of birth, Oklahoma. No further explanation needed, right? Only available on a limited number of bottles, starting in February."

3.6 8-3-7-4-14 Bottle, #16005, 3,5 years before bbd. Pours hazy yellow, with a big, although quickly dissipating, creamy head. Aroma is tart with wooden yeast and bretty notes of apricots and malts with grain and toffee. Medium body, with average carbonation. Flavour is tart wooden yeast and fruity brett with floral notes, berries and citrus, as well as malts with cereals, heather and toffee. Dry, phenolic finish.
3.0 Gusher. Huge white coarse head. Hazy deep orangey opaque body. Wooden funky barnyard aroma with fruity notes. Initially there were dung notes, but by the time I’d cleaned up the mess, those had dispersed. Dryish-sweetish wooden funky taste with pine needle notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish funky mealy aftertaste with herbal fruity notes. Weird beer. It doesn’t seem to ever settle down anywhere or have any defined character. It’s just a weird melange of flavours that somehow kind of works anyway. Interesting. (0.75l bottle, from wine monopoly, Strømmen.)
4.2 Aroma is Belgian yeast, Brett and tropical fruit/fruit. The flavor is Brett, Belgian yeast, fruit and an increasingly sweet finish.

3.8 Bottle shared by beerandblues2. Pours hazy amber. Aroma is huge brett and rustic malt character, citrus, floral notes, and light spice. Flavor is crisp and malty with smooth Brett character that’s more subdued than the aroma with crisp citrus and a nice, dry finish. Medium body.
