Tommyknocker Butt Head Bock

Tommyknocker Butt Head Bock

This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

3.5 Good amber beer, a bit more interesting as it is a doppelbock , got a flat bottle but think the others had a good head, will try again. Low carbonation on another bottle
3.3 Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toast, some dark fruit notes into a bit of spice, some vanilla, touch of grassy notes. Taste was a mix of dough, grass, dark fruit into some spice, caramel, toffee into a bit of dark fruits, finishing slightly sweet.
3.1 Tap. Pours a dark semi hazy amber with a ring of creamy off white head. Aroma and taste of malts and a bit of wood.
3.1 Bottle@tkcbb, hki. Red amber. Malty, bit autumny leafy, bit herby grass. Med full bodied, light oily, bitter nice. Tasty. Bit sterile. Decent. -- bb
3.3 Bottle at home. Pours brown with a frothy tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is malty, nutty, and slightly metallic. Flavor is malty and some nuttiness. Slightly sweet but balanced with nice hop bitterness. Finishes pretty clean with some lingering bitterness. Overall, a nice beer.
3.2 Clear amber with a barely-there head. Caramel, nuts and dark fruit. A bit too sweet and one-dimensional.
3.3 "Hits the spot in late fall with a robust malty backbone. Hops are light and earthy. Almost tasted spiced, and is very bready, slightly sweet, with some caramel and brown sugar as well. Better than a 42nd percentile brew."
3.7 Det här var en riktigt bra bock, smaken var kraftfull men ändå tjusigt balanserad, kroppen var stabil och upplevelsen total!
3.7 Bottle. Pours brown with red hues and off-white head. Aroma of figs and raisins, earthy, caramel. Taste is figs, vanilla, medium carbonation, a bit hot. Easy, good.
3.2 Clear medium amber, no head, no lace. I didn’t expect much more than a flat beer; instead I was pleasantly surprised with the big flavor. Sweet caramel malt with a burnt toast flavor that arrives just before a tangy carbonation blast nearly covers the mild hop balance at the finish. Lingering at the end is a definite warm touch of alcohol.
3.3 Poured from tap to glass. Amber hue with off white head. Aroma is clean malt through and through, taste is malty up front with a nice CO2 and sulphur finish. Mouthfeel is great with a medium body and zesty carbonation. Overall this is a nice bock.
3.5 Perfect amber brown in color with almost no head and a thin white collar. Aroma is caramel malt and toasted nuts. Taste is a good crisp caramel maltiness, toffee, and nuttiness again. Light body and low to medium carbonation. Pretty good, but not what I think of in a doppelbock.
3.6 Very nice brew! Has a caramel flavor w/ a touch of bitterness in the end to really round it out. Dark copper pour w/out much of a head. Good sweet malty aroma. I’m a fan!
3.2 12 oz bottle from Party Source from notes. Pours brown with a slight reddish tint and a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have moderately sweet caramel malt, moderate roasted malt, dark fruits like plum and cherries, some metallic notes to the finish, some warming alcohol. Pretty basic mouthfeel.
3.2 Carmel, toffee syrupy and medium body and mild warming from alcohol. A little on the sweet side for my taste but that doesn’t make it a miss. Well made and would be a good warmer sipper by the fire.
2.9 bottle. Brownish with one finger head. Substantial malt body. Nuts and caramel. Moderate booze and some light hops. Slightly better as it warms, but seems a bit harsh.
3.0 Aroma of chocolate and raspberry. Dark brown colour, with no head. A bitter palate of malt.
3.2 A syrupy sweet beer that plays on flavors of caramelized sugar and a clean style that doesn’t add much else. Upon looking for different characteristics within this beer I realized there were only faint flavors pushing past the sweet toffee and caramel notes. Nothing too significant, which is the same way to think about this beer.
3.3 Wow, someone at the brewery likes sweet beers, I however, do not. On draft, deep brown to red in the tulip glass with almost no head. Aroma of sugary caramel candy, some dark fruit notes, hints of vanilla, alcohol burn in the taste, mouthfeel is like carpet from the sweetness.
2.8 Amber color with off white head. Musty and earthy taste. Slight fruit hint. Not a fan. Had this on draft at tommyknocker brewpub.
3.4 12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s into my Funkwerks glass. Deep brown and clear with a small, mostly dissipating, tan head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, light chocolate, toasted malts, yeast, sugar and light fruit with a touch of herbs and spice. Similar flavor, medium sweetness and a touch of bitter hops. Smooth medium body with a creamy feel and a sweet finish. Paired with Cajun chicken pasta and chocolate chip cookies.
2.7 Pours a clear golden brown from the bottle with thin off-white cap of head. Aroma is sweet and vegetal, taste follows, almost like caramelized green peppers. Meh.
3.3 Backlog, from notes. On tap @ the brewpub in Phoenix, AZ, 16 May 2001. Brown color. Aroma’s: caramel, sugarry/syruppy, malt, some alcohol. Flavor is moderate sweet with some acidity from the carbonation. Too strong for this Arizona weather, but luckily the airco was working.
2.7 On tap. Amber with off white head. Aroma if malt, bread, perfume, burnt sugar with some hop notes. Taste is malty with tangy notes, sugar, toffee and faint hop notes.
3.1 Good flavor of caramel. Fairly malty too. Aroma is pleasant. Tastes very smooth. I like it.
2.9 Had it on tap at the Chicago Craft Beer Festival 6/22/13 in Old Town. Poured a dark clear amber color with a good head. Smooth heavy malt taste, with a bad bitter aftertaste.
3.5 Amber pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee, caramel and nuttiness. The flavor is caramel, toffee, dark fruit and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.5 Bottle. Not in a glass so could tell appearance and hard to get aroma. Slightly sweet and malty. Tasty
2.8 Bottle poured into glass at club w. pretty decent for 8.2%. Has a little odd smell for my taste. Ok.
3.0 bottle into glass, clear dark brown pour with thin off white head..nutty chocolate raisen aroma, taste is pretty much the same,
