Tongerlo Prior Tripel

Tongerlo Prior Tripel

Tongerlo Prior is a full-bodied beer with fruity notes that develop into a spicy and slightly flowery bitterness of hops. An authentic abbey ale, the age-old tradition of the White Canons of Tongerlo lives on in this officially recognised Belgian abbey ale. Re-fermentation in the bottle gives this beer a more intense taste and aroma as well as a longer shelf life. Tongerlo Prior was chosen as the best European blond abbey/trappist ale in the 2011 World Beer Awards.

1.0 Tastes sour
3.3 Old rating from 06-09-16 - Brought back from my Belgium road trip last year. Poured from a 330ml bottle, a slightly hazy amber colour with a white foamy head. Aromas of fruits including orange & pineapple as well as grains, malts & yeast. Tastes of orange, pineapple, apple, grapes, light wine as well as hints of citrus, grains & spice. Aftertaste has a fruity alcoholic kick with a fair amount of bitterness. Overall a decent triple, enjoyable, but no more than mid range in quality.
3.8 Bottle online from Beerhouseshop.be. Pours a hazy golden colour with a huge throthy white head. Aromas of bananas, cloves, apples, pears, yeast and hints of bubblegum and spice. Taste has more of the same notes from the aroma, lots of peppery spice and more bubblegum to go with the fruity notes. Some floral tones. Nice balance between sweet and bitter on the finish. Medium to full body with a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. One of the nicer tripels i have tried. Very nice.
3.0 Not terrible but bit flat, even a Leffe has more taste
3.4 Bottle. Cloudy orange with a huge and royally beautiful white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat and citrus fruits. Taste of wheat, lemons, yeast, oranges, grains, some herbs and spices plus bubblegum. Dry and moderate bitter finish. Medium to strong carbonation. Nice one.
4.1 Sweet tripel
3.4 Pours a hazy golden color, nose is meaty, toffee, caramel, taste is sweet, malty, caramel
3.1 330ml bottle from Moreton Beer Cellar? Aroma of grassy shrub, banana candy, mushy overripe plum and banana fruit, white pepper, clove, cordial and galangal. Burnished gold with a soft undulating foam becoming a slick. Slightly hot and honeyed with menthol, elastic and dead yeast mingling with more approachable clove and banana esters, green herb citrus, grass and pepper, lemon jelly and nougat notes flecked with incense. Not as complex as it sounds- almost a strong lager vibe. It’s perfectly serviceable but like so many, not worth remembering or resampling.
3.4 Nice head. Fruity, slightly spicy smell. Full body, slightly floral, quite hoppy, spicy taste. Some bitterness. Warming. Distant hint of bananas in the aftertaste. Slightly dry finish. A good, but not a great tripel.
4.6 Top
3.6 6 months over due rate when i drank Aroma of wheat and mild alcohol Nice lasting head with a clear colour of piss(not a very nice colour) Taste of wheat, very pleasant Mild carbonation with watery mouthfeel Nice beer
3.5 White head, light carbonation. Smell of wheat and orange. Taste of hops and a hint of dark chocolate in the aftertaste.
3.0 Golden, slightly hazy, with a thin white head that dilapidates quickly. Mild yeasty aroma. Taste is quite a hefty booze, with a very distant bitterness.
3.9 Lekkere triple, zoet, kruidig, mooie schuim kraag.
3.5 Almost clear deep gold, big off-white head. Aroma: humble fruity notes - apricots? Sharp spicy phenolic notes. Medium sweetness with a honey fruit profile, spicy bitterness with a good deal of alcoholic head. Simplistic and straightforward, still decent.
3.8 Lik westmalle tripel, lite mer spritig och tunn
3.0 Bottle. Pours golden. Aroma and flavor are Belgian yeast, sweet, bitter, massive sugar, fruits, not much of the promised hops. Okish.
