Tooheys Old

Tooheys Old

Is a robustly flavored ale made with top fermentation ale yeast. The beer is lightly hopped and black malt gives it darker color. The fruity ale-like esters blend well with the subtle hoppiness and hints of coffee/chocolate to deliver a unique beer.

4.7 smells of chocolate and coffee. Taste like it too! Creamy, rich and delicious.
3.1 Aroma of tarry smoke and toasted bread. Taste of dark chocolate and (vanilla?) smoke. I quite like this beer.
2.9 Bottle. Pours black not much else can be said here. Aroma. Mocha and Biscotti on the nose. Taste. Nothing Special, slight sweetness, slight roastiness and a slight coffee taste. Overall. I normally drink this on tap, probably just a touch better on tap but still alright poured from the bottle.
2.4 Pours great, looks impressive, but i just don’t rate the aftertaste it finishes with.
3.0 Found tasting Notes from my 2009 trip to Australia. Tasty ale. Some Caramel and fruit. Touch of a metallic aftertaste, but not enough to ruin it.
2.9 Looks like a flat coke in the glass. Minimal head. Overall an easy drinking dark ale. Nothing special and little sessional. Someone else thought it was like a Schwarzbier and I’d have to go along with that but add that there roasted malts come through far more prominently than in a black lager.
2.5 Along with Yves at his home black dark brown colored body with an off-white head with a malt hops coffee aroma a malt hop caramel sweet bitter taste with a bitter finish
2.9 Shared with wim at my home. Black colored beer with small white head and almost no carbonation visible. Malty roasted coffee aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is coffee malty mucca roasted m
3.3 Explained to me as "the coal miner’s beer". Still pretty good stuff, mildly sweet, caramel, nutty. Brown body with small airy head, easy drinker.
2.6 On tap at Mortdale pub. Schooner of black! Very faint malt nose. Dark ruby red with thin but lasting head. Spritzy but robust. Clean bitter finish with a little coffee/cocoa right at the end. Brown ale? More like a dark lager, I think.
3.1 Bottle into pint glass. Pours a clear dark brown amber colour. Aroma is stone fruit. Taste is sweet malt. Mouth feel is a bit thin. This beer is...........ok.-- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
2.9 Clear brown, cappuccino head. Aroma of light roasted malts with some caramel and burnt wood. Taste is a. Is true of rossi ness and some caramel sweetness, light cocoa beans.
2.1 If desperate times call for desperate measure, i.e. you’re in a shitty Sydney pub that has all the big sterile beers like VB or Tooheys New and there’s this, you’ll find it at least attempts to have some sort of flavour. It’s by no means good, but a man must do what a man must do.
2.8 Keg. Poured a dark brown with slight ruddy hues and a small, somewhat lasting, lacing light beige head atop. Nutty, malty sweet characters of mid, dark and fried fruits, roasted malts and then some pithy yeast complexities. Light to medium body, medium carbonation and finishing with a moderate intensity, modest length bitterness.
3.2 Mahogony in color with an off-white head. Toasted malts, molasses, chocolate, with lightly sweet fruit. Medium bodied. Pretty solid, really. Not what I look for in a brown ale, but I’d have a couple pints and be fine with it.
2.5 It Is better than the other Tooheys range, it at least has a little flavour. but I’d only ever get it when it’s the only option alongside Tooheys extra dry etc, I would never seek this out. not much interesting here.
3.3 Slightly sweet aroma. Black colour with ok head. Smokey and chocolate flavours with smooth finish. Medium to heavy body with medium carbonation, very creamy.
3.7 On tap at Kirra slsc roasted malts on the aroma dark brown tan head taste is roasted malts classic
3.0 375ml brown bottle. Dark brown, clear. Thin tan head on top with minimal lacing. Nose has caramel and dark chocolate notes. Taste has chocolate malt and caramel, fruity. Plain dryish finish with low bitterness. Light bodied. Better than I was expected.
2.7 Darkish brown with a minimal pale head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, cereal, malt. Reasonably thin bodied, slighty watery on the palate, no sign of hops other than a slightly grassy aftertaste. Taste is chocolate malt, caramel, cereal. Nothing interesting but nothing offensive.
2.4 Bottle. This was a bit of a let down. I was expecting something with more roasting and character. Thin, lightly roasted, and rather blah.
3.1 Bottle, 0.375l. Clear brown color with medium creamy off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of caramel, toasted malt, cereals and grassy hops. Taste starts with moderate sweet nutty maltiness, follows fresh grassy and mild fruity with light bitter finish. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Not bad and at least not an Aussie lager...
3.3 375ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a 2 finger eggshell white head that settles slowly and reveals some nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma is grassy with some hints of caramel and chocolate and roasted grains. Taste is a grassy hop and light roasted grain bitterness with a chocolate and caramel malty sweetness. Has a slightly metallic finish. Light to medium bodied with nice carbonation leaving a decent feel on the palate. A decent dark ale that is worth trying.
3.0 Mild nutty aroma, red brown colour with a white lasting head. Quite smooth, not an awful lot of flavour but a sound choice at most pubs.
3.0 Draught. Dark brown, frothy head. Light aroma us toasty, little bit caramelly. Taste is toffeeish, maybe hints of fruit and caramel.
3.1 Tap @ most places. The best of the offerings from all the big players. I'm always happy to have one of these. Hints of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt aromas. Roasted malt is the predominant flavour with a touch of bittering hops just to clean it up and keep it refreshing.
3.3 Draught at a membership bar/gaming place in Arncliff, Sydney, on August 10, 2013. Clear dark brown color, tan head. Sweet, malty, light, toffee taste. A bit of toffee aftertaste. Medium to fizzy moutfheel, medium low bitterness. Malty, a bit roasted scent.
3.2 Short lasting head, nice chocolate malt and hint of toastiness finishes well and would be a good session beer.
1.6 courtesy of Philipp and Thomas - clear brown beer with no foam left; aroma of wort and dextrose; thin-bodied, tart and astringent; short and vanishing aftertaste of cola and herbs - terribly insignificant
3.0 375ml bottle. State of Origin tasting. Brown amber colour, thin off-white head and aroma of roasted malt, coffee. Taste is malty with roasted & slight chocolate notes, some fruitiness, and a light bitterness. Creamy mouth feel, light bodied, medium carbonation, dry finish. Quite OK.
