Toppling Goliath Dorothy's New World Lager

Toppling Goliath Dorothy's New World Lager

Our flagship beer was named after our founder’s grandmother, Dorothy. Easy drinking light, in color and in body, this steam lager is meant to be enjoyed any time of day. We usually have ours with breakfast.

3.8 Tallboy can from Kenny Road Market: yellow pour, thin white head, loose lacing. aroma of citrus and cracker. tastes are lemony citrus sweet, bread malts, grassy/herbal. slight tingle on the medium palate. clean finish, easy drinking.
2.7 Can. Hazy golden body with a frothy, white head diminishing to nothing. Aroma of grain, herbal hops, a bit of corn and DMS. Sweet with a light bitterness in the end. Light to medium body that leaves a bit of chalkiness. Slight husky grain flavor. Sweet for a pilsner, even if it is new world. Unrewarding, especially for the price.
3.7 Sweet sugary aftertaste! Light and flagrant!
3.9 16 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 11/22/2019; best before 5/23/2020. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly foamy and fluffy white head with poor retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Good appearance. Aromas of big lemon, pear, red apple, cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of pale malt/grains, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, red apple, cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, pear, red apple, cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pale malt/grains, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not overly fruity/yeasty. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.5%. Overall this is an excellent California common. All around great robustness and balance of pale malt/grains, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/clean/refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Nice clean pils malt/grainy showcase, balancing earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressively well made style example as expected of the brewery. Minimal complaints.
3.0 Agree with the breakfast consideration. A little underwhelming for me but cant quite put my finger on it. Little experience with steam beers to compare to.
3.4 16oz can from Tavour. Mostly clear gold with a finger of frothy white head and good lacing. Crackery malt, honey, mild lemon citrus. Softish carb, light-medium body. Crisp grassy finish, nicely done.
3.6 Pint can. Grainy malt aroma with notes of bread, honey and grassy hops. Pours cloudy pale golden colored with a thin white head that has little retention and lacing. Starts with grainy malt and bready malt flavors. Finishes crisp and refreshing with grassy hops and a hint of honey flavors. Pretty nice, easy-drinking lager.
3.7 Can. Clear golden pour with a white head. Aroma and taste of mild hops and malt.
2.2 Can (Oct 14, 2019 canning). Head is initially small, frothy, white, fully diminishing. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of DMS, hints of plastic and ammonia. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. The brewery's calling this an unfiltered lager nowadays (rather than a "steam lager"), but no matter...it's a poorly made beer either way. Glaring DMS ruins the nose, it's overly sweet in the mouth, and the aftertaste is rough/crude (grainy/husky). Drain pour quality. Still haven't found anything notable from TG.
2.9 Nothing very exciting going on in the flavor, but sometimes that's nice. Overall a boring but fine beer
3.9 16 oz can from Beer Culture. Unclear yellowish color. Doughy and grassy. Nice bready flavor as well. Tingly feel. A quality drinking beer. Were it more available around here I'd happily make it a fridge staple.
3.6 DATE: June 30, 2019... OCCASION: first weekend in Mom and Dad's, and all is well... Michael's last game as a travelling Tiger will also be commemorated with this Sunday night drink... GLASSWARE: nondescript pokal... pours a cloudy, hazy golden body that clusters bubbles all around its base with an active, constant upward stream... the head fades quickly, though the activity is palpable... more of a pilsner tone than a true lager... lemon zest, spiced bread malts, banana, candied sugars, and a mix of grapefruit, papaya and citrus--quite fruity for a lager... creamy, smooth and light, this sips quickly with a refreshing purpose... a summery brightness finishes, despite its 5.5% ABV... subtly sweet, with a fruity aspect that suggests mango, lemon, and rye... this wins as an everyday drink, able to pair with a number of foods and moods... not the first TG I wanted to try, but thanks to Liquor Factory for getting their product into the rotation...
3.7 Ah, so it's a steam beer. Explains the slightly-more-flavorful-than-expectedness. Clear gold, electric white head. Crackery, slightly grassy and floral, cleanish finish. Would drink again. Tallboy from Tavour.
4.2 Can from Pontoosuc Package Store Aroma: cracker, lemon, hay Appearance: hazy golden with a white head Taste: medium sweet and medium bitterness Mouthfeel: average carbonation, medium body, sticky feel, long finish Tasty
3.3 It’s a Toppling Goliath, which is a plus, but then it’s also a lager, and I’m no lager fan. It’s like your favourite sport team going up against the best team in the competition. Ominous lead up (it’s a lager after all), promising start (this ain’t bad), few sketchy moments (hmmmm, bit sweet), but what a finish (crowd goes wild).
3.6 Pours a hazy lemonade color. One finger or so fizzy white head. Poor retention and poor lacing. Sroma is light citrus and light cracker my malt. Maybe a hint of butter. Taste is light malt, light citrus. Oily, like butter. Mouthfeel is light bodied. Oily, smooth. Finishes oily then clean. Overall a good brew that’s easy to drink, and not much thought needed to enjoy. I would recommend it and would buy it again.
4.3 Tap at replay. Clear golden color. Light head. Very soft aroma. Light flavor. Some sweetness. Soft bready malt. Very smooth finish. Clean!
3.8 16 oz can. Pours hazy golden with long lasting white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of grassy hops and biscuit malt. Body is medium and crisp. Grassy, herbal hops nicely balanced on the palate with biscuit malt. Finish is long and hoppy. Great brew.
3.3 Draft at Bru Craft. Slightly hazy gold pour with slim soft foam. Medium toasted cracker malts with some citrusy hop flavors. Full-bodied. Crisp spicy finish.
3.6 Can poured. Clear golden with a large foamy white head. Aroma is honey, corn, and lemon. Full silky body. Tiny bitter with a nice salty finish.
2.8 Sample from the can. Very cloudy gold color with a small white head. A little hoppy for a lager but overall it's okay.
3.2 Pours golden yellow, messy white head. Nose is floral, cardboard. Sweet grain taste, great balance, medium carb... Not as effervescent as expected. Very okay.
3.2 16 ounce can. Medium gold pour. Brief white head. Grainy malt nose hints at honey and lemon. Grainy, tart lemony malt flavor. Biscuit and mineral notes. Fruity hops in finish.
3.5 Can, from City Hops. Pours hazy bright yellow with small frothy whitish head, faint citrus aroma, high carbonation, medium bitter malt taste with citrus flavor, smooth body, longish finish. Quite well balanced and easy to drink.
3.2 Draft to taster at The Pint Room. Looks solid; a transparent gold with white head. Smells of a nice balance of hops, lager yeast, and a touch of bready malt(s). Tastes like it smells, but less hoppy and more bready. Mouthfeel is medium light-bodied. Decent, but smells better than it tastes.
3.3 On tap. Pours a clear golden color with a foamy head. Aroma of citrus and grain. taste of light malt sweetness, light fruit and bit of grain. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Fairly light body, smooth with a clean feel. Nothing fancy. Easy drinker.
3.4 Draught at the Well: pours deep gold with a white head. Aroma is light caramel, bready. Taste is lightly sweet bready caramel thing. Nicely sessionable beer.
2.8 Pour is a chill haze gold with a large white head. Aroma is some dull malt and a bit metallic. Flavor is dry pale malt, maybe some corn or other adjunct with a bitterness left on the tongue. I have never had a craft beer that taste so much like a macro lager. BPR clone? Drinkable but forgettable as well.
