3.5 Big bottle, Ann Arbor, MI via Trader Joes. Hazy pale gold, yeast and citrus aroma with spice. More mellow flavour. Semi sweet with a sharp spice citrus. Long citrus finish. A great step up from blue moon but not very complex compared to other Quebec ales.
3.6 Trader Joe’s is famous for it’s 2 buck chuck wine which is arguably over-priced even for those on welfare. So I was skeptical to try one of their brews. This Belgian style golden ale pours like a slightly darker lager with soft off whet foam. The aroma is spice filled with cardamom and ginger and just a tinge of hops. The initial taste is also spice and citrus and slight sting of alcohol amidst mild hops. The full taste remains spice and citrus but the ale flavor comes out, but somewhat mellowed. The aftertaste remains spicy, but with a strong and bitter taste of hops. Overall, this was pretty good, but not likely to jump in my cart again.
3.7 Served in a tulip. Hazy golden with a medium white head and decent lacing. Aroma is coriander, banana,Belgian yeast, and spices. Flavor is more banana, lemon, spices, and orange peel. Thin to medium and easy to drink. Nice beer.
4.2 From a bomber purchased at (guess where) Trader Joe’s. Rich well developed yeasty and spicy aroma. Full bodied sweet malty flavor with great balance and a buttery grain mouthfeel with only a slight alcohol burn. Outstanding Belgian style ale. Will stock up on more of these.
3.6 Purchased at Trader Joe’s in Vegas. Pours a hazy light golden-amber with an off-white head that disappears rather quickly, leaving not much lacing but a thin white cap above the brew. Aromas of Belgian Ale yeast with some nice spices, in the nose and taste. In the flavours, some orange notes which balances some sweetness with the spiciness. A very easy-drinking strong Belgian Ale, even easier than other Unibroue. Glad I could try this, but had to go to Vegas to do this.
3.3 an as expected dry yeasty Belgian golden. Pretty decent bang for the buck, though not a favorite style. Lightly fruity with a fizzy body that covers the abv well.
3.7 750 bottle. Pours hazy hay colored with dense white head. Nose has some citrus peel, wheat, very mild bubblegum esters, trace of coriander - very fresh aroma. Flavor has pale barley malt, a bit of texture from other grains, light spice - a bit of cardamom and coriander - lightly sweet and just a bit of fruitiness on the finish. Quite good - very nice bubbly and soft palate.
3.6 Bottle. Hazy copper/orange with quickly dissipating head. Aroma of light bananas, orange, apricot, and light malt. Light body, citrus, apricot, light hop bitterness, and a dry finish
3.5 750ml. Hazy clean orange-yellow, ugly white cream. Spiced yeast aroma. Good body, well done tart carbonation and conditioning. Under-whelming.
3.5 Bottle. Slightly hazy golden pour, with a white head. Fruity esters (pear, banana), lots of yeast character, bread, spicy, light clove, phenolic, and a bit herbal. Pretty good for what it is.
4.2 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Palo Alto, CA. Aroma fruity esters, savory bread, bits of spiced ginger candy. Taste is crisp, lemony with savory herbal, ginger moments. Overall an excellent ale for the money ($5.99 USD).
3.4 Bottle. Cloudy amber color with very small foamy whitish head that disappeared immediately, vanilla-citrus aroma, low carbonation, slightly watery vanilla flavored Belgian yeast taste, lomgish finish. Nice but not really great.
3.6 Pours cloudy pale straw color with white head. Doughy Belgian yeast aroma with some coriander and other spices. Wheat and dough flavors with some spices. Medium body with lively carbonation. Not bad for a $6/750 ml bottle.
2.6 Very light Belgian smell, wheat beer that is very slightly sour and hint of ginger...a bit more gingery than blue moon
3.3 Cloudy gold color and a large white head. Lots of yeast in the flavor and the aroma and I was surprised that the beer is opaque. Lately sweet, some fruit esters, good flavor, feeling light overall Less flavorful than may unibroue beers
3.0 Golden pour. White head. Little lacing. Yeasty malty nose. Taste is warming malt and yeast.
3.7 Thanks to southbierbro. Pours a brilliant slightly yellow with a pure white head. The smell is spice, coriander, citrus and sweet, light malt. The taste is spice, fruit, ending dry with some major sweetness. Light body, fine carbonation.
3.1 Many thanks to John for sharing. Great floral fresh and yeasty-smooth nose. The beer starts very nice smooth, fresh, sweetish-malt, smooth yeastiness, spices and citrus. Clove, nice smooth bitterness. Fresh, easy to drink brew with still deepness.
3.6 750 from TJ’s for 5.99 - turbid gold - nose is tripel-ish in character - some pear esters, orange peel, spicy phenolics, some crusty maltiness, dusty/earthy yeast - actually very pleasant in the nose - flavor is medium sweet, with a balancing tartness and spice - a touch of banana esters, tart apple and pear - carbonation is a little low, so the overall texture is a little flat, but overall a nicely done Belgian and great for the price.
3.7 Bottle - big foamy head, hazy dark straw color, lemony Belg yeasty spice aroma and flavor, nice dry finish, good Belgian complexity, very refreshing and good overall
3.7 Light hazy orange. Sweet fruity, light spice, ginger, light herbal notes. Thin carbonated body. Pretty solid but a little too mago for me.
4.6 Trader Joe’s Providential Belgian Style Golden Ale is really good for a grocery store brand - probably because it is made by a well-respected brewer. Pour is a cloudy yellow but the fizzy white head thins too quickly. Aroma is an intoxicating sweet blend of fruit and spices. Taste is also sweet and fruity with some spice notes -- a nice blend of hop, malt and yeast profiles. Providential is well worth the buy at your Trader Joe’s.
2.6 Pours a cloudy yellow gold with a foamy white head that thins. Aroma has some potency: cereal, floral, dough, and some clove. Flavor is way off balance an super sour. It does not please this beer drinker.
3.7 Nice fluffy head and a bright fruity aroma and flavor. Very juicy although a bit sweet with some tartness. A very good beer for the price.
4.0 (Bottle). Well recommended from my friend Linda. Clear light-golden complexion with long-lasting white head. Fresh aroma of yeast and spices. Flavor of Belgian yeast with some citrus, banana, spices and subtle malt sweetness. An excellent representation of the style.
3.8 From 750ml, corked, bought at Trader Joes for about $6-7 Aroma: Belgian golden/tripel! slight spicy, banana, floral Appearance: golden, cloudy, fluffy white head Taste: light sweet, light bitter, light sour Palate: light body, average carbonation, lingering spicy finish Overall: A really good Belgian beer for value. If this had a different label, it’d sell for twice as much. Nice Belgian yeast, almost like Unibroue’s La Fin du Monde tripel. Some spice mixed with some fruitiness. Good balance. Leans more to the Tripel’s spicy/fruity style than Golden Ale’s fruity/spicy, but nonetheless, a good and solid Belgian Golden Ale. If doing a blind tasting of Belgian beer, I’d definitely include this one since it’s good value and good taste will surprise those sampling.
3.7 Bottle: Cloudy, yellow-amber with a small white head. Sweet pear, lemon aroma. Taste is yeasty, lemon, light spice....peppery....nectary. Light, but a great flavour.
3.7 Very good actually. Nice aroma and a little bit of orange and coriander in there. Nice thick shape and looks too.
3.7 Bottle. Musty yeast, lemon, malt and herb aroma. Hazy pale yellow with giant white head. Lightly sweet musty lemon. light malt, and mildly bitter herb flavor. Body on the lighter side. Pleasant.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy golden body with a big, frothy white head. Aroma of fruity esters, pear, spice, orange peel and bread. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not surprisingly,Unibroue’s house yeast has its fingerprints all over this beer. Light banana taste along with a bit of clove, pineapple and floral hops. If anything, it’s a bit light on its feet in both flavor and aroma for a 7.5% beer. Enjoyable, though, and the moderate price for the 750 ml made it even more enjoyable.
