4.2 11.2 ounces goes a long way. dark ruby brown. full bodied and boozy without quite being hot, but the booziness and sweetness are persistent. not any real hop presence, but a complex cornucopia of dark roasty malts, chocolate, plum/raisin and other dark fruits, with a hint of smoke. kinda like a wee heavy, kinda like a barleywine. good stuff, though I’ll have to have another House ale, which i remember being slightly better. this should age well...not til 2020 but for a year or two."
3.7 Dark brown. Loose tan head. Some fizz and complexity.Malt and a trace of mint. Toffee ending with some butter. OK.
3.6 Dirty light brown, no actual head. White pepper and nutmeg drowned in soft toffee sweetness. Malt sack dusty bitter, soft creamy tea. Highlight is the lowlight of the ABV, neat and palatable but there’s not a kick at any point. Slow milky sipping. Finishes lightly lemon bitter but a lampooned comforting creamy linger. Bottle from the Garvie Cave, Beers Of My Youth Tasting
3.7 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours dark red brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of almonds, dried fruit. Taste is sweet, light booze, more fruit. Texture is oily, medium body. Sticky, rich finish. Good.
3.7 Bottle. Dark mahogany with tan head. Aroma is slightly oxidised, dried fruit and earthy. Taste of dried fruit, raisins, dates and plum. Sweet and a little prickly fizz.
3.3 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours dark brown, nose is fruity, caramel, taste is bitter, dry, thin, sweet, a bit prickly.
4.1 330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 4/16/2010. Pours very hazy/cloudy dark brown color with a small dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, light cherry, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, light cherry, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, brown sugar, brown bread, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and no cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with almost no warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent English barelywine. All around great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
3.8 Brun opaque. Bouteille, 2014/07/16.
3.4 Bottle 0.33l at Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu (as Traquar 2010). Originally rated 31012012. Colour is murky brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Dark fruits, raisins, alcohol, caramel, sweetness and malts.
3.0 Poured a caramel color with aromas of light wood, toffee, booze and some light oxidation. Flavors were caramel and toffee with some wood and oxidation on the back end. Decent beer overall
3.7 Bottle received almost 2 years ago when I turned 30. Thank you rlgk! 2010 version. Pours murky wooden brown with a very small beige head that doesn’t leave any trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and vinous with biscuits, caramel, toffee, sherry, sweet dark bread, wood, raisin bran, hay, dates, leather, alcohol and hints of lemon zest, cardboard and smoke. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, malty and vinous with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, port wine, sherry, hay, raisins, dates, prunes, leather, cardboard, soil, wood and hints of alcohol and smoke. Mouthfeel is round, slightly sticky sweet, tiny boozy, vinous and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, tiny bitter and malty with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, port wine, hay and lemon zest. Quite good but starting to get unpleasantly oxidized.
4.1 Bouteille 33cl BB 04-2020 as Traquair 2010, courtesy of rlgk. Acajou, col fin beige, blanc cassé disparaissant vite.
3.5 (330ml bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, bread, dark fruit, and roasted malt. Flavor of honey, toffee, caramel, dark fruit, and almonds with a hot, mildly bitter finish.
3.8 12 Oct 2013, bottle. ruby brown, clear, some bubbles, very fizzy head. nose is raisins, big alcohol, doughy wheat bread. med body, moderately fizzy. tastes of toasted cereal malt, some alcohol, toasted raisin oatmeal cookies. pretty good.
3.6 Brown pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee with some heavy caramel notes. The flavor is more of the same with the addition of some nice dark fruit notes complimenting the toffee and caramel. The alcohol is also present. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.4 1/27/2011: Traquair 2020... Aroma: Chlorine followed by some rich caramelized malitness. Appearance: Mahogony color; mostly clear; deep beige head. Flavor: Nice caramel maltiness with a slight butterscotch quality; good residual sweetness; almond sweetness; quite European-like; alcohol is mostly hidden. Palate: Medium-bodied; milky texture; smooth mouthfeel. Overall: Nice, but probably needs a year or so to fully develop. 11.2 fl. oz. bottle (10% ALC./VOL.) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #148 for this beer.
4.0 Pours a dark brown, the small head dissipates, but it’s a pretty beer in the glass head or no head. The aroma is a whole bunch nice things, toffee, maple, apple... but it’s not all dessert, it’s earthy rich and well nuanced all around. The flavor has a lot of nice chocolate & caramel. It’s still lightly bitter with some very nice light smokiness. Well rounded, big & interesting. A sipper.
3.6 11.2oz bottle. Poured murky medium brown with a short, spotty cap of toasted beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, aged caramel and dark fruits, with earth and fruity yeast accents.. warmth brought out molasses and light, complementary floral notes.. very nice. The flavor found tangy, almost woody notes on the tip of the tongue, with licorice, molasses, and lesser caramel following.. warm, dark fruits and yeasty dryness emanated outward.. tacky and muddled on the finish, with residual tartness. Medium-bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. needed a little more carbo to keep moving.. overall a tasty and interesting brew.
3.0 Bottle thanks to someone at Mora2000’s pre BTBF tasting. Dark brown pour. Aroma is caramel, toffee. Flavor is toffee, toast, apples, and plums. Watery mouthfeel.

3.9 From a 33 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a clear cola brown with an off white head. Aroma of caramel. Flavors of caramel, raisin and candy sugar. Rich mouthfeel with low carbonation. Very tasty.
3.7 Dark brown color with no head. Strong malty aroma. A bit nutty and caramel. Flavor leans toward fruity, with plums and raisin winning. Some sherry and oxidization. Sweet. Thick feel.
3.4 bottled, at preBTBF tasting, dark brown color , wine barrel notes on aroma, flavor is nice mix of dark whiskey, chocolates, and raisins/grapes
3.9 Aroma of apple, malt, dark fruit, and caramel. Pours murky brown with fizzy film. Taste is nice and sweet with great flavor profile. Mix between a Belgian brown and English barleywine.

3.8 330 mL bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot in Chicago, served in a snifter. Pours slightly hazy mahogany with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves minimal lace. On the nose, there are big notes of molasses, caramel, herbal hops, raisins, fig and oak. The flavour is moderately sweet with toasted malts, caramel, molasses, figs and raisins. This is balanced with herbal hops, earthy notes and a hint of spice. The finish is long and malty with plenty of dark fruit. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is an excellent barley wine with a welcoming fruitiness and a mellow, malty sweetness. It is very well constructed and I would be curious to see how it ages. 2012-04-05
3.7 Aroma is figs, plum and dark red fruits with some maltiness. Taste is dark red fruits, sweet and some unexpected bitterness in the end.
