4.0330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2007. Pours very murky dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, raisin, plum, prune, fig, brown bread, light roast, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/fruity malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, plum, chocolate, light roast, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, raisin, plum, chocolate, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of dark malt and lightly fruity flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice English barleywine style. All around good balance and complexity of deep malt flavors and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

1/19/2011: Traquair 900... Aroma: Rich, caramely
butterscotch (the butter part is VERY subtle); disappointing aroma.
Appearance: Caramelized amber color with little to no head or crown;
nearly opaque. Flavor: Caramelized malt with some vanilla; a bit of
butterscotch; rich maltiness; finish is a little dry; a suggestion of
oxidation in the fruitiness (Deglet Noor dates, deep red wine); some
tobacco. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth and calm mouthfeel; goes
down very easily. Overall: Nice beer that’s full-flavored, but
nothing special.
33 cl bottle (Alc. 9% Vol) from Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, Ohio.
Rating #198 for this beer.
3.6Sample at SMÖF 2012. Clear amber beer with almost no head. Dark dried fruits. malty and nutty aroa. Alcohol, nutty and malty flavour.
4.0Bottled, 330ml from York Beer & Wine, York. Dark brown with off white head. Rich and tasty beer, some liquorice, some plum pudding notes with caramel and a slightly spicy background. Full on the palate, some sweetness. Really very good on a cold evening.
3.7330 ml bottle. A dark amber body with a small beige head. Aroma has sweet malt, dry fruit like raisin and prunes. Flavor is sweet malt, molasses, dry fruit and warming alcohol, moderate in bitterness. Fine body with a long and nice aftertaste. A nice sipper.
3.7Bottle via trade. It pours very dark brown with a small beige head and some suspended particals. The nose is light roast, coffee, earth, chocolate, alcohol, raisin and Xmas pudding. The taste is caramel, wood, dark fruit, spice, chocolate, warming alcohol, light bitterness, coffee liqueur and earth, with a dry, light roasty finish. Full body and soft carbonation. Good depth of flavour and well balanced. As usual traquair do not dissapoint.
4.0Thanks to my Secret Santa blomster for this one!
Minimal tan head over a clear, deep chestnut brown body.
Complex aroma of figs and prunes with some anise.
The flavor is not what I was expecting from the aroma.
Very smooth as well as sweet but not cloying with nutty roast malts balancing and enhancing the malty sweetness.
3.8Sample @ SMÖF 2012. Vintage bottle (not sure which year). Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a small bubbly offwhite head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace worth mentioning. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, toffee, madeira wine, prunes, wood, alcohol, vanilla fudge, leather and raisins in brandy. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, slightly fruity and malty with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, madeira wine, alcohol, prunes, raisins, leather, dusty soil and wood. Mouthfeel is sound, soft, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, malty, tiny sour and fruity with caramel, toffee, wood, lemon zest, prunes, raisins, leather and alcohol. Good stuff. Nicely oxidized.
4.0Sampled at SMÖF 2012. Pours brown with no real head. Smells sweet nutty malty, abit alcohol. Tastes sweet nutty malt with a similar finish.
3.8Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, alcohol, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, dusty hops, alcohol, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry alcoholic finish..

3.5Bottle.Pours dark brown with an off white Aroma of malt, caramel, alcohol, roasted malt, yellow apples and grains.Flavor is sweet caramel and grains with some fruity, warming alcohol and yeast notes.Medium to full notes, soft carbonation.Nice warming beer.
3.5Bottled. Poured clear medium-deep brown with a nice sheen to it. The aroma picked up warm, aged molasses and caramel joined by spruce, smoked wood, and some other interesting spices I couldn’t place.. brighter on the back of the nose form the spices.. weird, but I enjoyed it. The flavor found the same molasses and caramel, plus a pinch of honey.. broken-down earthy hoppage plus some of the spices and smoke from the nose around.. fairly grainy finish carried through warm sugars and spices. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. a bit syrupy, but it was grainy on the back.. OK feel and flow.
3.0Deep amber color with a medium sized beige head. Malty aroma. Roasted flavor. very warming alcohol in taste.
0.5lots of dark berries in the nose with a malty toffee taste. alcohol shows up at the finish.lots of dark berries in the nose with a malty toffee taste. alcohol shows up at the finish.
3.9Bottle. Dark with an off white head. Sweet aroma of dark fruit, dates, figs, raisins and port. Sweet flavour again with raisins and figs along with a light bitterness. Delicious.
3.8Pours a deep dark amber with a tan creamy head. Aromas of heavy port, chocolate, raisins, plums, dates, vanilla, and even oak and earth. This has a very nice aroma to it and is full of complexity. Really, the chocolate and vanilla are forefront in the nose with this. Rich bourbon flavors are noticeable with chocolate, earth, vanilla, thin plums and raisins also notable. The finish is slightly bitter from the hops.
3.7Bottle. Clear wine red colour with beige head. Aroma is very port wine like, plums, raisins, syrup, brown sugar.
Taste is fruity and vinous with berries and some hops. Lovely!
Body is medium.
3.8Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations.

3.7Bottle. Clear ruby brown-ish colour with a small, off-white head. Quite interesting aroma with some nice caramel malt, wine, oak, sweet berries, some subtle roast and smoke, syrup, sugar and a little yeast. Taste is very sweet and big on alcohol, wine, some peat and malts. Some dry hops in the finish, providing some balancing bitterness. A little roast as well. Medium carbonation, big body, long duration.
3.3Pours very dark with a minor crimson / mahogany hue and a tan sudsy head. The aroma has lots of toffee, brown sugar, doughiness, deep toasted malt, dates, figs, licorice and light alcohol warmth. Medium / thin slick body with light sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of anise and spice along with abv. The taste is not as complex as the aroma was. This could be age affecting it, but I would have thought this one would age well.
4.5Bottle. Dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma: Sweet licorice. Taste: Licorice allsorts, berries, wine gums, quite sweet. This is great, but I’m sure it’s way too sweet for some people.
3.9Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty dark fruit aroma. Fruity malty sweetish dark fruit flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty caramel and dark fruit finish.
3.4Bottle shared by Sean! Poured a clear amber with an off-white head that quickly dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of sweet notes such as caramel, toffee and sweet grains. Flavor was similar as there were notes of caramel, toffee and sweet bread. Beer was quite smooth.

Palate... a bit thin for the mouthfeel but with some gentle CO2, lightly sweet with flavours of butterscotch disks, toffee, creme brulee, light brown sugar and a lengthy sweet finish.
