Tree Hophead India Pale Ale

Tree Hophead India Pale Ale

The name says it all...a full bodied India Pale Ale brewed for those that take their hops so seriously, they are referred to as ’Hop Heads’. Brewed year round since 1999, HopHead IPA is our Signature beer and was the first ’serious’ IPA to be crafted for wide consumption by a Canadian brewery. Considered risky business for a small Canadian craft brewer at the time, it is now considered to have been ahead of its time by leading the charge into brewing full flavoured IPA’s. Intense hop aroma with a complex malt/hop profile. Snappy bitterness with a very dry finish.

Malt: Pale, Light Munich, Vienna, Crystal

Hops: Perle, Centennial, Cascade, Columbus, Crystal

4.9 My favorite beer in the world. I wish it was available where I live. I can't wait to visit BC soon so I can enjoy it again. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
4.0 On tap in Banff. Well balanced amber-red IPA. Not a hop monster, more a well balanced slightly fruity & citrusy beer, with a fine biscuity taste. Good bitterness, lasting finish
3.8 Ambré avec un tête moyen beige. L?arôme fort d?agrumes (beaucoup de pamplemousse). Le goût à plein d?agrumes et pas mal amer dans la finale. Il a plein du corps, une bonne bière pour savourer.
3.7 From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy copper with a thick off white head. Grassy nose. Flavors grapefruit and pine resin. Bitter finish.
3.5 On tap - medium gold with a fizzy head and good lacing. Hoppy grapefruit nose and taste. Medium body and medium dry.
3.2 341ml bottle. Pours amber high clarity, thick off white head. Aromas of citrus, such as, orange and orange peel, hint of caramel. Taste of orange peel, bit grassy. Tastes a bit on the watery side, it?s a decent session ale however.
3.5 This time, out of a bottle. One of the first ipa's I ever had. Holds up with its balanced aroma of citrus, pine, and caramel. Bitter taste with slight sweetness. A reliable ipa from BC's interior.
3.8 Draught @ St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, BC Pours orange with a small white head. Aroma of exotic fruits, malts, resinous hops, pine, citrus. Taste is malty and refreshing fruity hoppy with some citrus, resin and pine. Finish is bitter, malty and sweet with loads of fruity notes. Quite sweet and resinous IPA.
4.0 Tree does a bang on IPA. It tastes like it comes straight from a tree with all the earthy, spruce like flavours. It has a great amount of malt balance in there as well with bready caramel. A good medium mouth feel too, with no face puckering bitterness.
3.5 Bottle bought at BC Liquor Store. Ppurs clear orange. Aroma is mostly about hops. Strong earthy bitterness, with some hints of fruits. Full bodied beer. A good IPA.
3.6 33 cl bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada. Light amber, frothy head. Pine and stone fruit aroma. Bitter, more resin, some caramel then more resin and some citrus.
0.5 A well balance IPA. Good grassy notes on the nose. A slight citrus flavour in the body and a dry finish. A very refreshing west coast IPA without being too hoppy
3.4 Clear amber pour with a thick white head that does not last long. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Fairly hoppy taste with some caramel and grains. Fairly light mouth feel, overall quite nice.
3.7 A really nicely done IPA from beautiful Kelowna BC, purchased in a 355mL bottle from the Ontario LCBO. Lots of hoppy grapefruit in the aroma. A small head that disappears daily quickly. Nice lacing. On the palate there's some fruit amidst modest carbonation. Long pleasant finish. Excellent.
3.6 Bottle, pours a light amber, a light hoppy aroma, taste is piney and a light citrus, nice offering.
3.9 Bottle 0,33L. Slightly hazy, orange to light amber colour with thick, off-white head. Aroma of pine, orange, grapefruit and some caramel. Medium to full body, average carbonation, medium bitterness. Easy drinkable and refreshing with nice hoppy caracter.
3.3 On draught at Christie’s, Victoria. Deep amber/light copper with slight white head. Nose is citrus and pine. Flavour is piney, orange, hop petrol/cat piss, bitter, dry finish. A bitter-forward IPA rather than aroma-forward, and though I prefer the latter this was good for what it is. They claim in the product description "without the hoppiness being too overpowering" but I definitely found it more bitter than most for non-imperial IPAs... the style may have shifted towards aromas since this was first brewed.
3.7 330ml bottle. Pours a crystal clear copper colour with a fluffy, two and a half finger off-white head that thins to a film and clings all over the glass. Aroma a bit floral with notes of bready malt, pine, and hints of citrus fruit. Taste is a balanced bitter with a smooth aftertaste. Low-medium body and carbonation. Smooth, slightly slick, mouth feel but still pretty clean and refreshing. Overall pretty good. Has a solid malt backbone to stand up to the hops. Lots of flavour and a good mouth feel. Not the hoppiest beer but still good. Would buy again for sure to change it up.
3.7 Amber color with off white head that disappears relatively quickly. Aroma of bold floral with some less prominent citrus hops, some pine in there as well. As expected, the taste is nicely bitter, and certainly characterizes the beer. A very nice IPA, If your in the area, it’s certainly worth a try.
3.4 Bottle. Cloudy golden amber pour with a white head. Aroma is a little resinous, tropical fruit notes as well. Flavour is a bit sweet up front, finishes more bitter. Not particularly hoppy for an IPA but a decent balance. Fairly full bodied and flavourful.
4.1 Very enjoyable ipa lots if hop bitterness. With a nice malt notes in the background. The hops definatly take the lead in this brew. Which I like. A lot.
3.1 Bottle, amber colour. Slightly off fruit aroma, quite funky. It's pretty dry and bitter but it lack something. It's a little metallic too and a bit watery.
3.9 330 ml bottle. Clear medium copper, small off-white foamy head fades. Toffee malt, citrus hop aroma. Fresh citrus pine bitter hop taste, toffee/caramel malts, eventually some grapefruit. Softly carbed, medium bodied, medium hopped. This nice sessionable PNW IPA Lite surprised me and exceeded my expectations, and would make a great starter for Lagerboys looking to expand their horizons. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)
3.4 330 ml. bottle purchased in Ladysmith B.C. Nice copper colour, head is frothy and sudsy- pretty big. Aroma is vanilla, grapefruit, pine, and yeast. Taste is grapefruit, pine, yeast, hops, vanilla, pineapple, very fruity, and orange. Palate is orange, pine, and hops. Points lost on too much carbonation. Great stuff; it’s easy drinking without being watered down. Proof that great IPA’s don’t necessarily need to be 6-10% alcohol.
3.6 Bottle from the hop pack. 5.4%. Clear golden amber pour with a weak, white head that bubbles away to a ring. Aroma is strong with hoppy overtones, Cascade grapefruit, citrusy, toasted malt. Taste is more of the same, dry hops and roast malts dominating the flavour, with a hint of sweetness. Finish is dry, but balanced and satisfying. Delicious.
3.5 2013/06/02 - Pours an orange, copper color with a thin white head that lingers. Aroma is honey, citrus and biscuit. Taste is citrus up front with a sweet and bitter hoppy aftertaste. Mouthfeel is oily with medium carbonation and a drying finish. Not as hoppy as many IPAs, but still decent.
3.3 On tap @GarricksHeadPub. Coppery malt base under floral and citrus hops. Bigger aroma than actual taste. More peppery than I remember. Oily. Lightly bitter-sweet and dry on the finish.
3.3 Bottle (330 ml). Thanks to northropfrye! Copper with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is weak but not unpleasant, with citrus, peppery notes and sweetness/sugary notes. Taste is moderately sweet with slight citrus and peppery notes. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Decent drinkability. Not bad, but easily forgotten.
3.9 Pours copper brown with a thin head. Aroma is heavy on the citrous, more specifically grapefruit. This is a very good IPA, hoppy, refreshing, delicious. Pairs nicely with my spicy cheesy guacamole and corn nachos......:)
