Trillium Mettle

Trillium Mettle

In the spirit of tenacity and camaraderie, Mettle was first created to highlight the milestone of our inaugural year as a brewery. With an intense dual dry-hop treatment of Amarillo and Citra, this medium-bodied Double IPA beckons with aromatics of peach and nectarine. A fusion of grape juice and candied citrus greet the palate while accents of white-wine, grassy hop, and a mellow bitterness reveal themselves on a smooth, dry finish. We continue to brew Mettle in recognition of our devoted following of hopheads that have supported us from the very beginning.

3.5 4/21/2018 (16 fl oz can): Hoppy candied citrus aroma that's odorific, yet subtle, with hints of white grape juice; cloudy pale yellow/yellow color with fluffy white white; flavor has caramel malt and lots of citrus-grassy hops, strong but not alcoholic; medium body, slick and smooth; pretty good, but not nearly as good as the Trilliam Tile Cutter Double IPA.
3.8 Pours a hazy light amber from a can, white head with large bubbles leaves little lacing. Apple and nectarine aroma and flavor, bit of an alcohol burn on the finish. A bit boozy. Pretty good beer.
3.7 Purchased at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange yellow. Aroma of oranges. Taste is citrus up front followed by a dank earthy hop presence that balances the juiciness. There’s a peppery note in the finish as well.
3.8 Can. Pours a deep hazy orange with a slowly fading sudsy off white head. Aroma is of orange, grapefruit, citrus, exotic fruits, floral, light spice. Taste is of orange, citrus, grapefruit, floral, exotic fruits, pine. Oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
4.7 Can of latest batch. Pours fully opaque golden-ish yellow with modest yellowy tinted white head which soon recedes. Aroma is mango and passionfruit. Tastes like mango juice, with an ever-so-slight hoppy burn/grassiness and almost invisible bitterness. The slight burny presence keeps the sweetness in check - takes it down a notch from 9 to 8. Perfect juicy number which is extremely crushable!
4.5 473ml can. Thanks a lot Vastactiv! Canned 31/01/2018. Poured golden color with a thin white head. Huge citrusy nose, crisp, minerally notes. Tangerine, hops, floral notes, citrus. Crisp, very drinkable. And 8.4! Amazing.
4.2 (Can, 0.473 l - canned on 31/01/18, thanks VastActiv, at tiong's tasting, 20180309) The beer poured golden and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, sea water and grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, tangerine, grapefruit, citricness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, hoppy and bitter. A very good and balanced hoppy brew.
4.0 At the source: pours hazy with a white head. Aroma is tropical fruits and sharp hops. Pretty good combo. Fairly bitter. Deceivingly light on the malt backbone. Great hop character.
4.1 Can at hotel room in Fort Point, Boston. Canned 31/01/2018... This morning! Enjoyed straight from the can. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, tropical fruits, hops and malts. Superfresh, superfruity and highly drinkable.
3.4 Hazy gold color with a medium white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Citrus, tropical fruits, pine, light oxidation.
4.4 473ml can, thanks Jan! Canned 11/09/17. Pours cloudy orange with a foamy white head. Aroma of sweet juicy fruits, loads of tropical notes, pine, citrus, grapefruit and resin. Taste is crisp, juicy fruity, massively hoppy and herbal with some citrus, pine, grass, grapefruit, resin and malts. Finish is crisp, hoppy, citrusy and grassy with some herbal hops, pine, grapefruit, tropical notes and mango. Really balanced and tasty. Awesome.
4.1 Can from the brewery. Pours hazy golden yellow. Aroma is pine, tangerine, grapefruit, and a little catty funk. Bitter, fruity flavor with lots of orange and tangerine. Bitter, fruity finish with some drying alcohol. Another really good beer from a really good brewery.
3.9 Tasting at SF, Vancouver, can Cloudy pale blond color. Zesty and lemony aroma. Lean mouthfeel, off-dry, crisp base, a bit wheaty, with pungent notes of resiny hops. Very good, a bit dirty.
4.3 Can thanks to bursprak! Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aromas of herbal hops, melons, guava, pineapple. Taste has herbal hops, mango, citrus, orange, passionfruit
4.3 Can thanks to bursprak. Pours hazy orange/yellow with a white head. Aroma of fresh sweet citrus fruits, mango, pineapple, dank citra hops and peach. Taste is fresh and juicy with notes of mango, pineapple, slight pine and dank citra hops. This is good stuff!
3.2 473ml can @ the office. Canned 2017.09.25 Pours a mostly cloudy golden straw colour with a tiny white head. Nose is sour, tart, and dry hopped. Flavour is dank with a moderate sweetness that finishes with a piney bitterness.
3.7 Can - Loght skunk with a pit off peal. Cloudy gold. Peel and pith with some fruity citrus.
3.6 Tall can at Brian's office. Canned on 2017-09-25. Pours a murky blonde with a weak white head. Aroma is grassy and dank. Moderately sweet taste with similar notes. Piney bitterness aftertaste. Quite good.
3.8 Hazy, not much head. Soft body, touch of yeastiness, and a hint of gooseberry, pretty bitter. Excellent.
4.2 Pours hazy golden with low white head. Aroma of dank and ripe stone fruit, light lime and citrus, hints of pineapple. Taste is sweet, fruity, slightly boozy, mellow bitter finish. Light and very smooth finish with soft carbonation.
4.3 Starts out Good, Stays Good, and Finishes Way too Soon. A fine New England IPA. Reputable company making it too. Vermont comes to Massachusetts. And All is Well. Yum
3.9 16 ounce can shared at Todd’s. Nice yellow pour with low to no malt tropical fruits and hops.
4.9 Damn near the perfect NE IPA.
4.0 16 oz. can from mark000 - thanks again, Mark! Pours a hazy gold with a small white head that settles into an uneven ring and thin island of film. Some yeast sediment floats near the bottom. There’s an herbal fresh hop dankness in the aroma that’s rare for the style, but welcome. The flavor ends with a surprising sharpness. Between the two, we have citrus, pineapple, melon, spice, florals, honey, and sweet and doughy malts. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation. This gets better as it opens and warms. The sharpness smooths out and there’s a rounded, balanced quality.
4.3 Hazy pale pour with small off-white head. Aromas of grass juice, baked onions, mango. Taste is super juicy, lightly bitter herbal hops with grass standing out. Also oat flavours. Very smooth and well balanced double NE IPA. Alcohol is magically hidden. Creamy and crisp mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Really good.
3.6 Tallboy can thanks to Joe Beer. Poured "New England" style. Aroma is sweet, loads of sugary fruit, older peach slices and lots of rotting citrus, dough, vanilla muffin and grassy hops. Flavor is slightly less sweet, peach, lightly bitter citrus fruits, touch of bread, hop cones. Medium to fuller body, average carbonation and a lingering aftertaste. Solid but not great.
4.1 On tap at Armsby Abbey in Woo-stah. Hazy ipa pour, although orange-ish rather than paler. Citrusy. Tropical fruit. Big peach. A touch of the sweet grape. Hazy. Sweeter than expected. Quite nice. 15.4
3.7 Very tasty DIPA, what is there to say, eh? Thanks Richard for the fresh can, because you can you the man. Lighter malt backing, fruity flavour.
4.0 The Publick House, Boston. Creamy foam, hazy yellow body, bright. Peach and guava nose, nice fruit. Smooth, fruit leather, rising leather dryness and bitter. Nice full character. Bitterness plays well with fruity pith, and tropical fruit skin. A bit harsh in bitterness. Good character.
4.2 Good stuff. Your typical hazy NE IPA. All kinds of fruit, garlic, onion. Just had one that was a couple of months old, accidentally poured the floaties, it still tasted great - luckily it had been kept cold.
