3.9Sour and acetic. Definitely gives you a heavy pucker on the finish. Lots of fruit with cherry and barnyard. Trinity rocks!
3.7Nice winey sour aroma. Beautiful tawny color. Light sour up front and finishes smooth with the almonds.
4.112.7 oz bottle shared with Pinkzambia mostly ear deep redish brown with a small thin head even when poured aggressively. Big sweet and sour aroma. Classic Flemish notes but also some red licorice rope and other fruity hints. Big very tart flavor. Dry and very low PH. More straight forward brown sour in the flavor. Very full and big and sour with lots of flavor Very tasty!
3.6Bottle: Kind of cloudy brown with a small ring head. Aroma of sour apples and corn nuts. Perhaps, a little bit of the high desert sage brush in the aroma as well. Super sour and astringent. What I like about this is that it stands out from the rest of the sour ales by being not as sweet as most. Something a bit cardboard box in the aftertaste as well as vinegar, Holy pH balance batman! Thanks Indiana_Red for the roadtrip find!
2.6Small bottle shared by Ferris. Brown pour, not much head. Aroma...hmmm some tartness but its somewhat metallic... Taste, sour ketchup, very little carbonation, a bit of metal, maybe it was just me, but this tasted off.
3.8Bottle to flute
Funk, lemon, Brett and cherry. Light reddish brown with a thin white head. Brett, lemon, and sour cherry.
3.7Bottle - Dirty cherry and funky. Cloudy brown with a beige head. Very tart sour cherry, balsamic vinegar and a dry dark sugar. Quite the hit, but nice.
3.4One of the new 375 mL bottles. Mahogany color, low carbonation even with a pretty aggressive pour. Some tart cherry and wet wood on the nose, with pretty volatile acidity. Tart fruit and some funk, pretty flat, some balsamic character. Okay, but far from the best.
3.7Poured from bottle to glass. Copper amber hue with off white head. Aroma is lactic, straw, acetic, nutty. Mouthfeel is great with a light body and high carbonation. Taste is sour throughout with a slight tannic following and CO2 sharpness through the finish. Overall this is a really nice sour.
4.0Bottle. Pours brown with red hues, off-white head. Aroma is figgy, sour, cereal, nutty. Taste is quite sour, sweet malts, deep rich flavors, very malty. A good sour red style- very solid.
2.4Tastes like burning. So goddamn sour that any other positive qualities, which do exist, are practically wiped away immediately.
4.1375 ml bottle from Evergreen Discount, thin flaky wax, poured into a wine glass at home, 5.8% 2.7 pH. Reddish brown and hazy with sediment, minimal tan head, quickly dissipating. Aroma of sour notes, green apple, light citrus zest, tart tropical fruits, oak and funky yeast. Similar flavor, sour and tart, fruity and sweet with lightly nutty, toasty malts. Light to medium body, nice puckering feel, a little thin with a lingering tart, acidic finish. Pretty fun to drink, this one has some personality. Quite sour.
3.6Bottle. Clear dark ruby brown with a small beige head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of cherry, balsamic vinegar, oak, toasted nut, and sour apple. Flavor is sour apple, cherry, vinegar, oak and some earthy notes. Medium bodied, acidic, lingering sour apple. Dry finish.
3.5At jacob’s with group.pours shit brown. Aroma is huge acidic, just acidic, like a bruery beer. Taste is big acidic, one note, tangy and puckering.
3.8Small bottle. Pours hazy maroon/purple red with rapidly settling head. Aroma is funky, musty, barnyard and horse blanket, earthy, oaky, vinegar and acidic, dried plum and cherry. Flavor is big oak, buttery oak, dried dark fruits, cherry, vinous with an oaky, tart finish and lingering oaky, tart, mildly fruity aftertaste. Not much complexity, quite tart and acidic, enjoyable all the same. More fruit and oak as it warms. Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, mildly dry finish.
3.9Pours clear golden color with white head. Acetic aroma with some oak. Very sour and oaky flavor. Medium body with average carbonation.
3.8Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The look is clear, no head, and brownish red in color. The smell is tart, sour, fruits, wood, and good. The taste is nice and tart, fruits, wood, and sour.
3.6Golden with a white head. The aroma and flavor of this beer are all about the sourness. I get a lot of acetic sour notes as well as some tart lemon, barnyard and yeast notes. There is also a hint of peach. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice sour beer. Glad I got to try it.
3.8Bottle..Pour is golden with a thin white head..Nose is grape skin, fruit, barnyard, dry, tart..Taste is wow sour, oak, dry, vinous, spice,
3.8SOUR . . pours a deep copper. . SOUR . . good foam level, mild lacing . . SOUR . . sour grapes, wine, balsamic vinegar, and lemon . . SOUR . . the tartest beer in existence, what an experience! .. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogzIg6eb2Do
4.0Bright copper and clear. Super funky citric nose. Taste will take the ceramic off your teeth. Nice!
2.9Pours a deep brown rusty color with a touch of ruby color on the edge. No visible bubble or head. Aromas are tart cherry, earthy funk and some vinous cider vinegar. On the palate its sour and very acidic. A bit to much vinegar comes through making this a palate wrecker, mouth puckering beer thats good for a sip or two but overall a bit to acidic for my palate. Maybe a touch more sweetness and a little carbonation would liven it up. The wild flavors are all there I just wish they were a lil more subtle.
1.9In short: An intense vinegary fruity ruby ale. Bad
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when approximately 8 months of age, bottle sent to me by adnielsen, not your fault Aaron
The look: Cloudy dull dark ruby topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose is some kind of fruity vinegar, some oak and notes of honey. Taste is balsamic vinegar, cherry juice, lime juice, oak tannins, sour grapes, red-wine gone which is developing port flavors,. Body is thick juicy and with sparse lifeless carbonation. I kept lowering my score the more I drank it and I couldn’t finish my bottle. This is a beer to share at tastings (if you don’t like your tasting buddies) because drinking a full bottle of this thing is most likely humanly impossible. But even a major disappointment like this cannot ruin my whole day, thanks to my Attention Deficit Disorder it can ruin only ruin 10 or 15 minutes of my day tops.
3.5This showed up at a tasting last weekend. I was shocked and awed, as I’ve been wanting to try this beer since I first heard of it. Thanks Colin!
Bottle 161-10 Barrel NBB3
This beer is a light brown color and appears pretty clear. There is virtually no head or lace. I think the sour monster scared them away, or worse. This beer is fantastically sour. Wow. It is reminiscent of a Flanders Oud Bruin, but vastly more tart. There are some nice woody notes in there, as well. Lip smacking, puckering, cringing sour goodness. Obviously, the finish is pretty acetic with some vinegar notes. What a cool experience. One of the sourest beers I have ever had. I don’t think the review scores do this beer justice. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys sour and wild ales.
3.3750ml bottle that was completely flat. Like, Lost Abbey flat...Dark brown color with a smell that let me know this was going to be sour, it smelled quite awesome. The flavor was intensely sour, possibly the sourest beer I have ever had, just vicious. It had a nice brettiness and apples and a bit of vinegar but really just an onslaught of sour. If this was carbonated it would probably be a better beer because it certainly isn’t worth the $24.

3.4Brown with no head. The aroma is kind of a sour Flemish type. Quite tart and vinegary, with light chocolate notes and tons of balsamic tartness and wood. Funky, interesting interpretation.
4.1Pours a cherrywood brown with no visible head, slight carbonation. Aroma of lacto, cherries, sour grapes and slight vinegar. Taste follows nose sweet and tart. Cherries up front with vinegar in the back. The sour sticks around and puckers well after the last sip. I love this beer, my only knock is I would like a little more carbonation.
3.8Bottle Number 027-10
Pours clear caramel brown with a very thin beige head that leaves an extremely thin collar of lace. The nose is super sour with some cherry and caramel malt. The flavor is super intensely sour with tons of lemon and vinegar, and some caramel malt. The body is medium and sticky tannic with very light carbonation and a super long and super sour finish. Not quite as good, but this reminds me a lot of corked and caged La Folie.
4.1(Trade w/adneilsen) Bottle 1254-11/Barrel# S82,SB4,NBB3 - Effectively no head. Looks like Coke in the glass. Unmistakeable sour aroma and the glass is sitting a couple of feet away!! Body is seriously watery thin. Puckery sourness in first mouthful. Flavor of balsamic vinegar and marinaded mushrooms. Nearly zero aftertaste. Intriguing, and a worthy representation of sourness for any sour festival!! I could drink this on a regular basis.
4.4From notes. First reviewed 9/26/2011. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip.
Appearance is the only normal aspect to this beer. Old Growth has the appearance of a red wine wine: a cranberry brown color with clear edges and almost no head.
There is enough solventy and acidic aromas to cause your nose to burn. Just incredibly sour, with a ton of lactic and vinegar notes. Sour cherries and decomposing red grapes provide some fruit notes. Behind the sour madness is a good amount of funk as well. A little bit of oak pretty much gets lost behind everything else that is going on.
The flavor is entirely over the top and complex at the same time. The sourness is incredible, I can barely believe how strong it is. Lactic acid, red wine vinegar, very tart cherries, some lemon, a little bit of currant all provide the sour notes. The fruit all feels like it is decomposing, which works very well with the sweaty funk that I get in the background.
The first sip starts puckering and salivating, but soon enough it blows right past that. This is acidic enough that it feels like it is melting your teeth, tongue, throat, and anything else it touches. Very dry, very sour. This beer is not messing around.
This is the most sour beer I have ever had, bar none. It burns the taste buds off your tongue, feels like acid going down your throat, and dumps acid into your stomach. For some reason, I love it. I drank the dregs of the bottle, and they were delicious. At the same time, I understand why this is such a polarizing beer and most people do not like it.
