Tröegs Dead Reckoning Porter

Tröegs Dead Reckoning Porter

Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

2.0 an, another example of american-izing a beer by loading it up with a ton more hops than is necessary for the style.
3.0 Pours brown with a thin off white head. Has a citrus aroma. Flavor of citrus hops
2.7 Nice balance and good coca finish. Not as hoppy up front as I expected. Drinkable yet somewhat busy with flavors.
3.4 Surprisingly thin brown, translucent pour, which follows through on the palate, just kind of thin. However, the flavor would suggest something a bit more full bodied, meaning this one tastes really nice. I was in the mood for a good porter on a cold cold night. Thanks Troegs!
3.6 Bottle. Pours a thin dark brown. Fairly mild flavor that isn’t too heavy on the roasted malts. Very drinkable and pretty good overall.
3.8 on tap at Brennans Bowery Bar in Buffalo. dark brown pour with a frothy foam head. Good creamy malt aroma with a hint of hops in it, some crisp citrus hops in the taste with a good coffee like chocolate in the finish. Great beer
3.7 Reddish with small beige head. Minty hop notes over mild roast aroma. Flavor has robust roast and chocolate and not nearly the hop presence that I got from the nose.
3.6 Pours deep deep deep red but I can still see some light through it. Foam is light tan. Nose is fruity danky, piney, citrus, earthy and resinous. flavor is chocolates, resins, pines, earth, and dank. Medium full body and wow the chinook really stands out. Pretty solid. A little arrogant bastardish.
3.3 Sampler at the brewery. Pours opaque dark brown with a frothy beige head and lots of lacing. Tastes like malt, alcohol, dull coffee, bready with medium hops. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Faint smell of grains, coffee, malt.
3.0 Pitch black, medium bodied, refreshing and balanced porter. Some coffee, roasted malts, not too sweet with a dry finish. A worthwhile brew.
3.5 Bottle from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Dark, ruddy brown with a decent, tan head. Easy drinking, with some sweet mlats, dark fruits and touch of citrus, before a dryish finish. Enjoyable.
3.5 Bottle->pokal. Dark brown with small tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, citrus hops. Interesting and unusual for the style.
3.6 A pretty good porter. Has a nice aroma full of coffee and roasty. Taste is a little watery and mild for me but very drinkable.
3.6 Color is of a dark brown. Fairly translucent. Looks more like a brown ale. Smells fairly sweet for a porter too. However, plenty of choclate and roasted flavors. Drinks very light and etoh is completly unnoticable. Finishes great. Really surprised how well this one turned out.
3.3 Aroma has a nice citrusy/roasty balance but the taste is just a bit off to me, kind of acidic tasting up front and with a really, i dunno, astringent? finish. It’s not a bad beer, just not feeling it.
3.8 On tap at the abbey. Pours dark with a great brown foamy head. Taste is roasty and hoppy, finishes sweet and dry.
3.7 Cask @ Rustico. Great heavy pour with very nice roasty flavors with a touch of chocolate. Cask makes it very milky and smooth.
4.3 Smells hoppy. A very flavorful pilsner. I love it. It’s really is a perfect beer to start the fall with. It reminds you of summer but give you a taste of the fall. Then there are temping hints that bring you to winter chocolatety delight. Well balanced beer. I highly recommend.
4.2 A pretty good porter, not bitter, but with a toasty coffee taste (some folks mention chocolate but I do not taste it).
3.7 Draft at Bocktown Grille Robinson. Pours coca cola brown with an inch of thick khaki head. Solid roasted malt on the nose. Pretty big chocolate roast on the tongue with a nice hoppy floral bid on the finish. Definielty refreshes.
4.1 Dead Reckoning Porter pours a deep brown, lightening noticeably to amber along the outer edge of the glass. A finger of wispy light tan foam sits atop the beer, sticking around for a quick minute before leaving a nice amount of lacing caked to the inner wall of the glass. The nose is based around some nice mild chocolaty and nutty aromas, but there's a definite citrus background note. The balance in the flavor profile is shifted a little bit more towards the hops. The malt comes across as more straight ahead chocolate/roast and less nutty, and it's all followed by a bitterness that catches me off guard for the first sip or two. The finish is decidedly grapefruit, displaying a hand for hops that was just a hair too heavy for my taste. The body has just a little bit of a chewy aspect to it, perfect for a low ABV malty beer, and carbonation is just lively enough to let you know it's there. I enjoyed Dead Reckoning, but it was trending a little bit too much towards a black IPA for me to consider it a truly great porter.
3.7 Sample from 12oz bottle at Spirits Crossroads Tröegs tap takeover. Pours a deep dark brown color with ruby red highlights and a finger of foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and piney hops. Taste of mild roasted coffee, chocolate, citrus rind, and piney hops. Taste reminds me of a lightly hopped black IPA more then a porter. Nonetheless a tasty beer.
3.7 Soft toasty chocolate aroma, subtle but important hop presence. Brown ale type brown color. Great chocolate and coffee flavor, surprisingly bitter and in a great fashion. Sharp crisp body. Like those black IPA’s, only without the dirty burnt elements.
3.4 Dark brown with small brown head. Aroma toasty malt and chocolate. Medium-light body. Flavor up front is lightly sweet roasted malt and chocolate but then some pretty strong grassy and floral hop flavors. Quite bitter and hoppy for a porter.
3.7 Pours the deep chestnut brown of a porter with a dense off white head. Aroma is clean, hints of malt, chocolate. Taste is smooth chocolate into coffee transition with bitterness and coffee ground aftertaste. Classic porter.
3.6 Aromas of earth, pine, and cocoa. Dark ruby with a lasting off-white head. Dry, roasty, and bitter. Medium bodied, well carbonated, and with a hoppy finish.
2.0 Minimal aroma, nice translecent coffee color. Woody, almost cardboard taste with some initial hop bite. Slight coffee and hop aftertaste.
3.5 Keg @ Sedona. The pour’s brownish red with a small head. The Aroma’s of burnt brown bread. Coffee. Cocoa powder. Moderate nuttiness. The taste is more toast. Quite dry, bitter. Dark chocolate. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, solid.
3.3 Not hugely robust, but decent. Dark mahogany pour with good head and lacing. Not hugely original but an ok session porter. Dark chocolate. Bitter finish. Average carbonation. Sharp bitter finish. Bottle.
3.4 12oz into a pint. Smooth pour, head is fullfilling and about 2cm with marshmellow thickness. Color is midnight black. Taste is earthy malty, no giant hop presence, and the roasted malt charateristic shines very nicely. A nice fall beer here, with seasonal qualities that shuffle in the autumn goodness. Nothing too over the top in quality, but a solid brew. Abv is medioaker at 5.8, if this was bumped up some I think that would lend a hand to a more superior enjoyment.
