3.8 Sweet honey malt profile with a straw backbone with peppery spices and hints of banana.
3.8 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy dark gold color with an average cap of foam for a hefeweizen. Aroma is of yeast, malt, spice, banana and clove. Medium body. Flavor is bread, yeast and sweet malt. Finish is a little dry, tart and more of the wheat malt. Great beer!
3.9 good yeasty aroma - peppery, banana, wood, honeycomb, hay, mild florals - flavor is delicious - bold, yet dry - slightly tart, yet savory - smooth grains, banana, spice, mild earthiness - nothing overbearing - lighter bodied - great mouth feel and palate - very drinkable hefe with well balanced flavors
3.8 From Jul 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John! Nice cloudy yellow-orange pour, small head of foam that shrinks quickly. Almost no lacing. The smell is nice with notes of wheat, yeast, some light spiciness, a bit of clove, good banana. The taste follows the nose; wheat, banana, yeast, clove, other spices, and a bit of lemon zest in the finish. It's close to medium bodied and very refreshing indeed. And talk about drinkable, I could down a few of these easily. Very easily! A very good example of the style and one that I can easily recommend!
3.3 Draft at Macs. Very hazy orange gold pour with a foamy ring. Somewhat juicy Hefe with some citrus, grass, and spice. Wheat. Orange peels. Banana. Clove. Cardamom. Green peppercorn. Easy drinking session brew.
3.5 Very well balanced wheat beer, I smell yeast, wheat and fresh cut grass. I taste clove, wheat and hops.
3.0 This beer was not what I expected at all. It reminded me much more of a Summer Saison or Farmhouse. Light in color, a lot of carbonation with a good head, aroma and taste of a brew that was fermented with a wild yeast. Spicy, some pepper and more aqueous that I was expecting. It was tasty and I drank it down like it was nobody’s business -- but -- not what I was expecting from a wheat beer. I guess I have more to learn and need more experience.
3.9 Very nice craft beer example of a German Classic beer. Great, refreshing beer for the summer. A light interpretation of a classic German Hefeweizen.
4.0 Really good wheat beer. I'd say it is semi strong tasting in the wheat department if that makes any sense.
3.6 On tap at the brewery pours out golden topped with a white head. Nose is banana clove spice pepper and some bubble gum. Taste is more of the banana esters spice a light bubble gum sweetness.
3.7 12 ounce bottle. Bright medium gold color. Moderate sized pillowy white head. Fragrant wheat malt nose has hints of banana and clove. Light fruity malt flavor benefits from the addition of the Munich and Pilsner malts. They add a touch more balance and body. Banana and clove flavors are more subdued in flavor. Grassy hops in finish. Tasty as an American Wheat, with Bavarian influences.
3.4 Slightly hazy copper beer with an enormous fluffy bright white head. Nose of banana, clove, and lemon. Flavor is similar with the banana and clove taking prominence followed by sweet citrus and a light flowery bitterness. Easy drinking with perky carbonation, this is an enjoyable beer, although a little generic.
3.0 Clear golden pour with thick, slow, white fizz. Light bodied with moderate fizz and a sweet finish. Good, strong spice and a touch of banana in the nose. Pepper, clove and anise in particular.
3.3 Hazy orange gold, medium to large white head, no lacing. Aroma is wheat, spice, belgian fruit, and nutmeg. Flavor is fruity wheat, and munich malt. Medium bodied. A solid hefeweizen but not my favorite style
3.0 Aroma is banana and a little bit of pepper. Taste is banana and a hint of smokey thick bread with a smooth backdrop. Very slight burn, maybe a little more than some hefes, but not really what I’d call a significant hops presence (And, to be fair, the style doesn’t call for one anyhow). Tastes like a hefeweizen with just a hint of dunkelweizen, in beer terms. Mostly hefe, though, which is how ratebeer is categorizing it, I feel correctly (Though the bottle label itself makes no claims as to style and just calls it a "wheat beer"). There’s nothing wrong with it, but I have to admit the last one from an old mix pack the rest of which was long gone sat in my fridge for a long while. But that’s just because I’m not a huge fan of wheat beers, not because something is wrong with it within the bounds of the style. I think it is a reasonable variation on the style and if you’re in the mood for what it offers, you’ll be reasonably satisfied. Nothing too special, though- the flavor is stronger than some of the real watery hefes that sometimes get mass marketed, but it’s not a real rich hearty flavor that some fans of these type of beers may be seeking (For my part, I’m okay with that. Too rich in this style might not be my thing. If I wanted a rich tasting wheat beer and price were not a factor, I’d probably prefer a tripel or trappist style ale.). One thing I will say is that despite all the wheat beers that flood the US craft market, somehow many of them avoid the basic banana flavor hefeweizen taste, which I imagine could be quite frustrating to hefe fans. This beer doesn’t run away from what it is.
3.6 Cloudy pale yellow pour small head. Strong Spice wheat and Ester aroma. German yeast clove taste. Smooth finish. Interesting beer.
3.9 Pleasant spicy aroma on this hazy straw colored wheat beer. Strong clove and pepper notes dominate but do not overwhelm this easy drinking beer.
4.1 What jumps out at me with this beer is the spicy notes that I don't typically associate with a wheat beer. It's very pleasant and very refreshing to come across something like this, and aside from that little bit of spice, you're still looking at a solid wheat beer. Very good.
3.3 Draught at Jet Rock Bar and Grill in Terminal B of PHL. Dark gold with full white head. Hazy - OK for style. A fair amount of tartness here.
3.6 Bottle pour into pint glass from One Stop Market. Appearance is clear, golden yellow with tons of sparkle, 1 1/2 finger-width white fizzy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is strong banana and clove. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, soft to average carbonation with sweet banana finish. Overall, a light and refreshing wheat beer with strong aroma and flavor with gorgeous appearance.
3.2 Flight shared with ebone1988 at the brewery. The pour is a foggy darker golden yellow with a thick ring of light gray head and no lace. The aroma is banana and clove. There is a light Belgian maltiness that isn’t good and a light apple on the back end. The flavor is the same. Big Belgian yeast and clove with banana. The apple skins really help this come off not so abrasive to me, and I like it. The mouth feel is thicker and a little softly carbonated. The aftertaste is malts and a hint of apple and spice. It’s interesting, but not good.
3.4 Flight shared with koleminer20 at Tröegs. Aroma is banana, clove, spice, soap, wheat. Appearance is straw yellow, hazy, white head. Taste is banana, clove, wheat, barnyard, dry. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, banana aftertaste. Overall, a decent Hefe.
3.6 Hazy lemonade color with continuous carbonation. Banana, spices, other yeast notes on aroma. Taste is clean, a little floral hops. Light mouthfeel with a bit of zestiness. Nice.
3.4 Hmm a somewhat distinctive wheat beer, predominantly is of the standard yeasty clove and banana variety, but has a slight pale malt and straw accent from what appears to be Munich malt or other non-wheat ingredients. Nice golden slightly cloudy appearance, average. Had a cleaner finish for the style, light peppery hint over pale grain. Just enjoyable, although definitely has piqued my interest in Troeg. Thanks Vincent!
3.9 Troegs sampler, Troeg Brewing, Hershey, PA. Foamy wheat yeast, spicy clove notes , unfiltered.
3.3 Bottle from Kroger. Pours golden with a huge white head. Smells of green banana and grass. Taste is ripe banana with grass and toast. Not bad.
3.5 Bottle, thanks Christina! Spicy yeast aroma with notes of wheat malt, clove and pepper with some banana sweetness. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin white head with some retention and lacing. Starts with wheat malt flavors with some banana sweetness. Finishes smooth with the banana becoming more prominent as well as spicy yeast flavors of clove and pepper. Refreshing and quite a nice hefe!
3.4 Sample @ PGH Beerfest. Pours a cloudy light brownish amber with a white head. Aroma of banana and cloves. Flavor is of light banana with a hint of clove spice. Decent tasting Hefeweizen. Refreshing and enjoyable but not the best one out there.
3.8 Soft banana and yeast aroma. Hazy orange body with a solid white two fingered head. Tart lemon and bready taste. Thin bodied with a touch rye like spiciness.
